the best part of waking up....
I was actually thinking of the clio V6 in relation to this GTI (and I would rather own the renault, honestly) but it's really a whole different beast simply because all the specs of its engine are about half of what this GTI is packing. 3 liters, V6, 250 bhp is nothing compared to the 6 liter W12 with >500 bhp.
I think where we fundamentally disagree is that I wouldn't even try to fit this car into the "supercar" category in the traditional sense. I think most if not all supercar chassis are independently developed or derived from another supercar (ala Audi R8) and I can't think of a single one using the body of a "mere mortal" car.
It may have performance approaching some supercars but if you look at it you're going to be like "damn, check out that GTI with the W12". But that's enough for me. This is a very cool car, and I bet you that sitting inside it feels smooth and refined like most VWs (the Veyron, for instance, is special partly because it is so smooth at high speed). Most people who see this are going to want to take a peek in the rear window to see that beast of an engine.
On another note, which do you think is more popular... the CCX or the Veyron? Koenigseggs cost about half what the Veyron does, and I bet you they've sold more cars. More people know about the Veyron just because VW has a very big marketing machine, I think.
Anyway, it's not a supercar by my definition (or yours), but it's still a very cool car, as evidenced by the majority of replies in this thread and threads elsewhere concerning it. The feat of effectively dropping an engine that big into a GTI (in a refined manner... this is verrrry different from one guy doing a swap in his garage) is not something to be scoffed at... you can have your opinion, I guess, but trying to come on this forum and act like the super cool guy who isn't impressed one little bit is a little immature, honestly. It's not constructive and it's irritating.
