60D frozen, pink lines through footage

Yesterday, my friend was filming a second angle with my 60D. He told me

to come over because it was being weird. There was pink lines throughout

the clip and it was frozen. When you would turn the camera on and off

it wouldn't do anything. We took out the battery and it finally started

to work again, but I am still a little skeptical and nervous about it.

Anybody know what this could be?

You were probably filming under fluorescent lighting. Its an optical effect caused by progressive cmos sensors whose refresh rate falls in sync with the refresh rate of fluorescent lights which refresh very slowly compared to other lighting. It apears as a bar because it does not fill the whole frame in the instant of 1 frame. It apears at the same spot because they both refresh at the same rate.

try playing arround with shutter speeds and frame rates. I forget what the best combo is but it sure can be a pest!

It wasn't under fluorescent lighting, it was outside, around sunset. I know what you're talking about and it wasn't that. Thank you though. It was just very little pink lines going across the LCD screen while it was frozen. Not when it was recording.
