5dmkiii March 2nd

link? proof?

Who cares?

Predictions:

improved iso performance (about time)

720p60 (lol)

some HDR bullshit

1 million MP

some mid ranged frame rate for photos

no new audio functions, no 1080p60, no reasonable in camera "video" functions and it will cost 3500 dollars.

Well?

sure it may not be thread worthy.

22MP

around $3.5

dual sd/cf slots

61pt AF

3.2" LCD

still waiting for audio, video, and whatnot which yes evan, may be only minor improvements and not worth the extra jump from the mkii which in most cases some will just hop on that with a new price drop (probably me)

excited to see what they do with it video wise. Am I ready for disappointment? yup! Do I still want one for the improved AF system and FPS for shooting sports? yeahkindasorta

Why are all of you guys such gear whores? You can create a sick video with a t2i or a 5d, honestly on the internet you will never be able to tell the difference and then you'll have to buy at least a 300mm to do any kind of long lens work with a 5d... 200 on a 7d is barely long enough and thats 360mm on a 5d.

which the majority of people like

evan, you seem to forget that 95% of people buying this camera will buy it for PHOTOS, not video. Every improvement they make will be well welcomed by photographers shooting current 5d's

depending on pricing/features/availability i might get one for school next year

substantial ones are quite a ways off. many people will still choose the mk2, as it will be somewhere around $1-1500 cheaper, and far more available for the first 6 or so months then the mk3. If anything i see them continuing production of the 5d2 as the lower cost(1900ish) alternative to the mk3

most up to date info, for those waiting. Anyways, the camera will actually drop sometime tomorrow late-afternoon/night as it will be the 2nd in japan/singapore/hong kong/wherever they are dropping it.

baaahahahha they're having a live broadcast of the announcement.

It's just a camera, they release a new version every year or so, not that exciting. Seriously though, how do you guys have the funds to have the mentality to "maybe pick one one up to replace my already virtually brand new camera that i only got 6 months ago?" Stick with a camera until you actually need a new one, not just cause there is a new one!

no. i think he's right. you better be able to afford L glass if you plan on owning a full frame camera. last years model, just like last years skis, will do just fine

if you are buying a 3.5K camera, you can afford L glass

and keep in mind the 5d2 is 4 years old now

you seem to forget that the 5d basically started the HDSLR video craze. Bypassing much needed video function improvements would be a huge mistake on Canon's part. Reverie anybody?.....

Canon is coming out with a dedicated DSLR for video - they don't want to kill the market for that camera by releasing a 5D mkIII with awesome video.

And @Balto, what's the 'silent and low vibration mode'? What's it referring to?

For a $5500 price difference, this camera is going to have some fucking awesome video feature.

they were working on a "cinema dslr." looked like a 1dx but possibly with a pl mount and many dedicated video functions

I know about that... but they havent released ANYTHING about it.. you guys act like its been announced and it really hasn't they just claimed it...

quiets and dampens the sound and vibrations the shutter makes when taking a picture. that way you can take shots in places where having the sound of your mirror slapping around in your camera would be a bad thing, and hand hold stuff at slower shutter speeds

leica does it in a cool method in the m9

But it has to recock the shutter. Basically how it works is you can click the shutter, take a photo, and then it won't recock until you release your finger.

Can't say much due to NDA, but I think Canon will be announcing (read: confirming) the specs at NAB. According to a couple DPs I know who have been testing it, now is the time to sell your C300.

lol the site canonrumors chose to live stream on just crashed, their servers can handle 10,000 people, and they exceeded it i guess hahaha.

Boy do I love camera releases!

So your still stuck with 60fps at 720p...wow...hopefully there 4K DSLR actually brings something to the table. Obviously it's not only for video but I'd stick with whatever DSLR I already had before buying this one.

while I won't be buying it unless my job requires me to, there are a few specs hidden in the details that i've been reading that make it better than some people are dissing it for:

AVCintra

Headphone Jack

Manual audio levels on screen and are adjustable during recording

14bit sampling (now samples every pixel vs line skipping)

But for $3500, its meh. Hopefully its DR in photos will be comparable to nikons.

Canon also released a bunch of new goodies including the new 600ex flashes:

http://dancarrphotography.com/blog/2012/03/01/canon-launches-new-600ex-flash/

For all you video kids hating this is a huge improvement for photo, there is finally an 'affordable' full frame camera that doesn't sacrifice the speed of the high end crop line (7d). This is a much more useful improvement that the D800. 5d3 is a perfect backup to a 1dx for a working professional and a great workhorse for a wedding/portrait/studio photographer.

I still find my t2i just as suitable for my video needs. Especially factoring that my body is almost $3k cheaper

"14-bit data is read from the new sensor array via an 8 channel link rather than the 4 channel system used by the EOS 5D MkII. That means that the data can be readout much faster with helps with both continuous still shooting and especially with video readout. With the EOS 5D MkII lines of data were skipped when reading the sensor for video shooting in order to obtain the necessary throughput. With the 5D MkIII every pixel is read, even when shooting 1080HD video at 30 frames/sec."
