Looks like an awesome upgrade for photogs, especially form my 5d2. I wish I could afford it...

I know video shooters are disappointed, but I figure most serious video folks have moved on from the 5d line, and likely canon altogether, already anyways.

Massive waste of money to me for video shooters. The only upgrade for video is 1080p at 60 and 720 at 120. If you're interested in video personally I would say don't buy this camera. I used to shoot DSLR but this summer saved up a ton and since the fs5 and and fs7 by sony are out you can get a used sony fs700 for under $3,000 which is cheaper then the 5d IV at $3,500 for the body. Also most of the fs700's you find on craigslist have the metabones adapter because alot of people like canon glass. Make sure it is the "R" version cause you can upgrade those to 4k also. I always buy used gear so to me this was great. But for photos I understand why people are hyped on the 5dIV.

Definitely expected the underwhelming video specs, but oh well. I shoot mostly video with a canon 6D, but I may move to sony in the near future. With that said I'd hate to give up the canon for photos, but it may be necessary to pay for the upgrade.

People who buy this camera usually aren't intending to use them for video. I work at a camera shop and of the 15 preorders I processed, none of my customers are intending to use them for video. Most are replacing their 5d mk3's. If your going to be doing that much video then a c100 is mores untangle not a dslr

I agree with that but the c100 is junk compared to the fs700. Sony has been destroying Canon lately. the c100 tops out at 1080p at 60fps and that's the canon c100 mkII, while the fs700 does 240fps at 60p. And the fs700 is relatively older as that came out in like 2012. Maybe the 5d mk IV will help Canon though.

I'm switching to Panasonic GH series until I can eventually save up enough a RED in a bunch of years to come haha. I have a Canon 100d now but I'm getting the GH3 this Winter. And then probably the GH5 in a year or two

Great photo camera, which is its purpose. I think people are starting to realize that canons dslrs are for photo now, not video. Its capable of course, but id laugh at someone who bought this as an a cam.

Dude I'm not saying that the Sony is worse than the canon. It's just that my customers who do video professionally use them.

Also you just called a camera better because of the frame rate, pretty poor way to judge a camera.

Well there are numerous reasons why I would take a fs700 over a c100. The only reason someone could argue otherwise is the c100 is better in low light and it's color's to some is better. Personally these two arguments are useless as for color is doesn't matter because these days you can do so much is post that you can make it to whatever standards you have with Filmconvert, Davinci ETC. Same with reducing noise in low light shots. that's something you can also do in post with several different software applications. Plus, for shooting action sports I think a high frame is a huge perk to have. weather you use it or not it's still fun to mess around with. But yeah that shouldn't be the selling point of the camera.

Whether man, whether.

Anyways, I like the fs700 over the c100 any day too, I just prefer sony systems, but the c100 is a great camera if you don't need 240fps, but might as well have the fs700.

Ya especially since the c100 is 2,500 and that's not even the Mark II. The mark II still sells for around 4,000. I was pissed cause I replied to a craigslist add but was to late on an fs700R. Guy sold it for 2,200 with a metabones adapter and it didn't have many hours on it; so you can find them for good prices.

Yeah shit dude an fs100 is like $1200-1500 now, that camera is fucking fantastic.

Ya I had a DSLR for 4+ years but I never originally wanted one but when I was younger there wasn't a cinema style camera/ camcorder for a good deal. Now you can get a used fs100 for close to what my setup cost me. Crazy how much access there is to high end cameras like that and GH3's are pretty cheap too.

i'll buy anyone's 5dmk2 that upgrades

You mean 3? and ya, now you can find them for $1600 on craigslist which personally for a 5dMK III is a good deal. In the next 6 months they'll be going for around for under 1500.

Probably won't even sell mine when I upgrade barely worth it, and it'll be a fine backup/remote 2nd cam.

Agreed. Speaking of, I've got an FS100 I'd be willing to part with if anybody is interested.

$1k w/o batteries, shipped?

That's because modular video cameras are finally affordable. It used to be guaranteed that you were going to have to make some massive concession when you bought a camera, (no 24fps, fixed lens, horrible low light, etc.), and so buying a DLSR (which sucked in almost every regard except optics) made sense. But now we have cameras like the Sony fs series, making DSLRs pretty irrelevant at this point.

Having said all that, I am still rocking my DVX100b.

Altitude Foto no more?! Always remember the boys at the dirtstar :)

AltitudeFoto still lives, just using that name for my wedding photography.

Using my name for my outdoor/skiing photography.

Easier to have it separate for marketing purposes.
