50 pairs of skis a year?

So I destroyed a pair of skis a had last season (normal park skiing, just shitty skis) and the owner of the shop (ski hous CT) proceeded to talk to me like I was 4 and said that "the pros you see in the xgames will go through about 50 pairs of skis a year." I know they get hooked up but 50?! really? what do you think? I think hes full o' shit.

He's probably full of shit.

50 is alot of skis. Really depends on the pro though, and the quality of the skis *Cough* Suspects *Cough*

maybe like 1 or two pairs, then ones for comps. i am not pro but i rode the shit out of my skis and they held up fine

wait, he told you an arbitrary fact because you broke skis? what does that have to do with you being 4?
an he's full of shit

he was spittin facts about how that damage shouldnt happen unless you dont know how to ski. They were under warranty, and the edges were coming off.

More then that I would think.

In the Line TC Blog it showed Andy Parry's new gear from line, they gave him like 2 pairs of abangs, pair of masterminds(?) and a pair of blends. And that was at the beginning of the season. I he broke those they must have some on backup for their pros.

Then again this really depends on the pro and how tough they are on their skis.

This thread is funny.

It depends on the skier. I know LJ goes through a bunch of skis using urban, maybe 4 pairs max then maybe another 2 pairs for everything else.

I can't speak for any salomon athletes, but i doubt they go through more than 10 pairs from november - august.

i know a guy who is sponsored by salomon, wont call him pro cuz his 15 but he went through 8 pairs in an ontario season i think, then salomon stopped giving him new skis lol

cuz? dude you are constantly getting lazier and lazier on NS haha

Ya I can vouch for the legitness of this statement.

I did 5 pairs in one Mammoth season........................

But saying "pros" go through 50 is horse shit..............

yo man dnt b mad cuz u no i type lyke 30 less ltrs than u per post

lazy is the new cool thing 2 do

why would you even want that many. guarantee i'd find something i like and want to stick with em until i completely destroy them..

lol true. if i were pro i would ask for like twelve of every pair they made, just because ive never had more than one pair of skis

my coach was helping out at a pipe shoot for dumont and dorey and he said dumont broke three skis that day. he would just to his car and get another pair everytime a ski broke

I don't think any pro goes through more than 10 pairs a year and that is pretty generous. My educated guess would be 2 pow skis, 5 park, 2 urban, and just another 2.

pro racers will have 50 pair probably, because they have a slightly different tune for every possible weather condition, and for 4 events, but they dont completely use them out obviously.

Thats quite abnormal. The majority of kids i know who ski park usually have one pair last them a full season, maybe half of that use a ski for longer than that too.

solution to not going through multiple pairs of skis each year: BUY QUALITY SKIS

if you drop 200 on a pair of BH or 300 on a pair of lines, you should expect them to last you less then a season, but go and drop the money on a pair of on3p's, fatty-pus, moment, ect and you will get quite a bit more life out of your skis

typical shop guy trying to sound like he knows what he's talking about so he can talk down to customers. tell him he's full of shit. not even salomon's pros are mounting 50 pairs a year

i saw mike wilson hit a cliff, lose a ski, not even look for it, go down, get another pair, and then do the same thing 2 runs later. they get whatever they want...but 50 is excessive

Yeah i could see them being full of shit. One of my friends was sold absolute shit boots there a few years ago i think, they apparently were a bunch of kids that didn't know what they were doing. But i might be thinking of somewhere else....

I would have argued with you in the past but I got a pair of fatty-pus skis this year and I can not believe how durable they are.

How are their park skis?

see this confuses me. he says that pros go through 50 pairs a season, yet also said the only people that break skis don't know how to ski? that's quite contradictory. oh and at the same time, he's full of shit. no pro goes through that many skis.

Some snowboard video said that the average pro snowboarder goes through 14 boards a year. This was a while back so I can not provide proof. Not sure how skis relate to boards in terms of strength but it probably isn't too different. 50 is crap.

idk, maybe a top pro could get that much, but why?

i am not a pro in anyway, but on our mountain we hit 60+ ft all day and the skis just hold up like no business. maybe at some point, when tables get really huge, landing badly might snap a ski, but i wouldnt bet on it. especially considering that anything over 90 ft is pretty damn legit and not an everyday-job for pros.

i wouldnt count out the possibility that pretty legit second-tier pros get through the season with 2 pairs.

hahah 50 would be ridiculous, i usually go through 2 snowboards a season, but there was one season where i destroyed something ridiculous like six boards.

its not that you kill alot of skis because you are "pro" its because alot of the equipment made today really wasnt made to stand up to 100+ straight days of abuse. think about it, the average buyer will shred a board or a pair of skis for what? 30 days? 20 days? but a pro or someone like myself who is on the hill every single day will use a piece of equipment that much in just a month, so it starts to break down.

theres always the freak accidents though, i broke a capita midlife this season after like a week on it just tapping a barrel.
