5 Mountain Pass - Heavenly and Northstar

I'm trying to figure out a trip for Christmas break. I already have 4 days planned in utah before Christmas but I would like to get one more 5 day trip in January. In the interest of saving money and the fact that I own a Colorado Pass I was looking at Heavenly and Northstar, the 6th and 7th addition to the 5 mountain pass. Are they good ski resorts for snow and terrain? Is there any nightlife? Is there any other cheep resort alternatives
 
I grew up skiing at heavenly and northstar. They're awesome. Heavenly for terrain, n* for park. Heavenly's park is sketchy. Northstar's terrain is boring. Night life could be decent if you are over 21, obviously. Try not to go at a super busy tourist time, because they can definitely both turn into jungles of people from the bay area.
 
huh? both have pretty shitty terrain but heavenly a few areas of fun, both have good parks, with northstars being very very good. And if you want nightlife you want to go at the touristy times of year because, well, the clubs will be packed with people from the bay area.

you hope to god its a touristy weekend cause there is a saying in tahoe that the girls in tahoe are like parking spots - all the good ones are taken and the rest are either handicapped or its illegal to park there.
 
Well your responses dont sound to promising, I'm definitely looking for some good big mountain skiing over so maybe I should start looking somewhere else. I don't care about the park so north star is probably out and if heavenly is not great, it probably isn't worth going all the way to California from Colorado. Any other cheap ski vacations people can think of?
 
what 5 mtns are on the pass? heavenly and northstar are really very shitty if you are looking for anykind of big mountain.

I would sugggest a shared room at the the hostel n JHole for $35 a night.
 
if you want to do some real skiing in the Tahoe area: Kirkwood or Alpine/Squaw are your only real options. Now that Alpine and Squaw are under the same roof, it promises to be a pretty sick experience. I say go to Kirkwood and poach "The Cirque". if you get caught or die, it's not my fault.

also most of the mtns in tahoe have pretty dope terrain, it just so happens that he picked one resort with hands down the worst terrain in tahoe, and another that strictly caters to rich tourists, and only has two small areas of steepness.

im pretty sure that sierra-at-tahoe is also on the pass, so check that out as well. its like a smaller version of heavenly, except with a higher proportion of fun terrrain.

but really go to Alpine Valleywood.
 
Sierra at Tahoe is a dope little resort. All the gapers stay on one side of the mountain, and the locals are super friendly. It's also cheap as fuck compared to kirkwood or heavenly. Heavenly is VERY disappoing with mostly flat terrain, and shitty parks. Kirkwood is amazing on a powder day, and has pretty good parks. Sierra has nice parks and has super fun terrain. It's all a matter of preference. That's my 2 cents
 
Thanks for the input, I was just checking if resorts that I already have on my pass are worth the road trip but I guess I will take a trip south to wolf creek/telluride/silverton or north to jackson hole/grand targhee/big sky and just keep cost low with shitty housing and lots of ramen noodles.
