Samsung announces 5MP camera phone

Samsung has today unveiled the world's first 5MP camera phone with a CCD, the SCH-S250. A spokesman for the company said 'the picture quality is good enough to compare with five megapixel digital cameras', but we'll reserve judgement on that one. It has a 92MB internal memory as well as an MP3 player. Samsung, the world's third largest handset maker, said the camera module was jointly developed with Japanese company Asahi Pentax

Yeah, but megapixels have very little to do with picture quality, its really just a figure used as another selling point. I'd be willing to bet that though that phone takes very large pictures, they are not very high quality at all, and it would be a better investment to buy a good cell phone and a good point-and-shoot digital camera for the same price.

Cruz is 100% right. Many of the shots you see on the cover of Sports Illustrated were taken with 3 and 4 megapixel cameras (Nikon D1H and Canon 1D).

Megapixels are really just a marketing gimmick, some 5mp and 6mp cameras may actually have great quality, but most just suck.

see the problem with cell phone/cameras is that there are no removable memory cars or usb ability. they just sell the cams and make you pay to get the pictures

but i have camera phone now and i dont use it very much i usually use the digi but this phone looks sweet

 
whats the purpose of that? no one is going to use a camera phone as a different medium.. u use a cellphone to talk, camera to take pictures.. the camera cellphone go together like gov. mcgreevy and being gay.. it should have never happened

i would love to have a cameraphone just for snapshooting..... i've got my digital rebel for real photography, but for just simple stuff, i'd rather not lug the rebel + case around.

samsung made a limited number of phones that are working replicas from the matrix. because there were soo few made, the cheepest one ive seen is $1,500!

If they're making it jointly with pentax, it's not going to be all that bad. They're a pretty respectable company in my opinion.
