Just had the pleasure of watching the Travis Rice video 4th Phase on Rebull's website . It is free for tonight, so go watch it. It felt like a planet earth for shralping. Definitely has some slight cheese in it, but Rice is an absolute beast. He is on another level. Some unreal shit in this vid, Im glad my buddy reminded me to watch it. Wondering if anyone else watched it? Opinions?

I had some fuckin deja vu when he hit that same line Cody Townsend did last winter. Totally forgot about that whole ordeal.

I haven't watched any comparable snowboard movies but I thought it was pretty good. I liked that it wasn't just snowboarding for an hour and 15 minutes straight. There's a lot of easy accessible riding heavy content out there nowadays so it's cool to see more than just that. I don't know how to explain it but it seems like there were a bit of loose ends in the concepts but almost in a good way. It got me thinking a bit. I like to do that sometimes.

Some of those lines were straight fucked. It was nuts. Some of those natural hits were fucking massive too and these nutty mother fuckers were casually spinning them. I guess that's not uncommon but still.

Overall, solid movie. Would recommend if you've got an hour and a half to spare.

Some insane visuals and the level of riding was bananas, but it had way too much filler. I don't mind a bit of story telling and buildup, but they basically got skunked on a couple huge trips and it showed.

I can only imagine the amount of money redbull put into this thing, oh my.

Yeahhh the one where they waited 4 weeks for good weather(I might have this number wrong, I zoned out a couple times) and then the military homies didn't let them in. Good fucking lord that must have been a nightmare in every way possible.

Did you see it in south lake tahoe tonight? Fantastic movie by the way. The cinematography was next level

I liked it.. It told a narrative and that even if you have a huge budget shit can happen in the mountains and plans don't always turn out how you planned.

Travis is a boss..

His first two movies were much better.

There was a lot of BS in this one, and buildup to what seemed like just the same stuff he has always done. Crazy stuff, but nothing really "new"

My biggest issue, why was this idiot not equipped with an air bag system when he was involved in that big slide. Stupid.

Right, I thought they were pretty decked out in ABS shit, but guess not. I could care less about helmets, those things are useless, but the Avy Savy tech should be at these d bags disposal. Wear that shit and live.

how can you care about avy gear but not a helmet? it adds some complication to the avy situation when you smash your head on a tree on the way down

i def dont wear a helmet sometimes and people can do whatever they want...but it's weird to see someone chiding someone for lack of safety gear but not care about the helmet part, right?

I've always been a anti-helmet person. I think they do nothing, especially in the BC at situations like his. You smash your head off a cliff with or without a helmet, you'll die. But this is not a helmet discussion. This is a discussion about how his movie was trash.

Granted the riding and cinematography were top notch, the amount of filler was stupid. Should have been called the Travis Rice Movie.

It was nice! Loved it!

Nice to see in theater, but not right before to go hit the slope.

A bit too much filler, not enough porn.

To everybody bitching about the amount of filler in the movie, Brain Farm was aware of it. So they were kind enough to release a 17 minute cut of heaters, for free.

oh shiiiit can't wait to watch. ill watch the whole thing at some point too for sure, but the ones in the past have def had more talking and slow mo than i like so i appreciate this action cut ha

No burial. What would an airbag have done?

^He didn't know that going in.

What I'm most disappointed yes with was the music. The art of flight introduced me to m83. I was hoping for a killer soundtrack.

Yea I was thinking the same thing. I was just waiting for them to put in some M83 at the end but to no avail :(. As corny as it would have been to throw in "Outro" or something like that, movies like this are just made for that kind of music.

I think they made a big mistake by choosing to score it by one person.

Going to get railed for this, but that I thought it was better than the majority of ski movies I've seen. I really liked it. Snowboarders are ahead of us still haha.

Saying an action sports film made in mutlple year with an 8 figure budget doesnt exactly make it 'ahead' of anything, even though your statement isnt wrong, travis rice is not the proof of that.

I meant a lot of things snowboarders do are ahead of us.

Travis hit that line before Cody did.

They get WAY higher than skiers on BC booters.

They do a lot more tricks into spines.

Idk I saw a lot in that movie that I haven't seen from skiers. And yah that would be awesome if there was a ski equivalent movie that got that kind of funding from Red Bull.

When I was watching it last night I couldn't help but think about a TGR segment in the "pillow spines" or the big mountains of Japan.

That's some stuff I've never seen before.

Anyway I thought the movie was sick, I already got it haha.

i get what youre saying but i think that only shows what i think is the case: those 2, 3, 4 dudes are "ahead of skiing" in their particular forte

ill need to watch 4th phase and then get back to this thread lol but there are definitely skiers who do more serious big mtn lines than most SBers, etc.

i am very curious to see how rice did on the line that cody also did. i feel like i remember seeing a pic of rice stopped or edging in the middle of it while cody flashed it. but idk i need to watch the flick before weighing in here

yeah i meant to say that. obviously not every boarder is ahead of every skier, but yes the people in the film are ahead of skiing in their forte.

And yeah i remember when travis called cody out too, loved it lol

Are helmets useless when you hit your head on a rock? I know someone that had that happen. Had he not been wearing a helmet he would have bashed his head open. His helmet prevented him from doing that. Was that helmet useless. Is protecting your head from getting bashed open useless?

l

'In their forte' being the key words. Skiers tear big mountain lines apart faster and hit bigger cliff cleaner. They also take on big mountain contest lines better when the snow is bad. Watch the skiers versus the boarders on the Bec De Ross and you will see what I mean.

Yea I don't why skiers and boarders can't collaborate and do more films together. I think they're few things sicker than when skiers and boarders are riding together. Redbull could easily pull this off.

I think that would be cool. Jeremy Jones was probably focused on improving in terms of hitting big cliffs cleanly and flashing big lines, and area where skiers have an innate advantage, and Jeremy Nobis was probably trying to improve on spine walls, a place where boarders have an advantage, particularly before rockered/tapered skis. Jeremy Jones' trilogy was sick, but I would love to see him back with TGR.

Because skiing sucks. Skiers and Boarders have definitely collaborated before too. Sammy C has done work with snowboarders, even was invited to snowboard superpark multiple times. IMO skiing doesn't/won't have the mass/commercial appeal that snowboarding does, even though we're practically one in the same. Both sports have totally different attitudes/styles that seem to keep us apart.

You need to get laid more often.

Japanese alps segment was outrageously ill. The level of riding over all was crazy but dramatic filler, bad soundtrack and some cringeworthy dialogue brought the stoke down. Didn't help that all i could think about was how awesome Tight Loose was the whole time either...

I agree

Its a bit different but whenever I'm filming park skiing I don't wear a helmet but the second I ski without a camera in my hand I have a helmet on

This.

Was kind of hoping for it to end about 3/4 of the way through. The riding was sick, next level for sure, but it was cheesy and overly dramatic to me, seemed almost forced.

The whole thing seemed to me like it was just a was like a Travis Rice ego boost . The amount of time I heard "awwhhhh Travis is so gnarly, awwhhh just sends so hard"

He did, but Travis did it first and made it possible for Cody.

Actually looked re read the conversation of Cody and Travis today.

i watched the action-only cut. music was terrible but at least it minimized the cheesy drama etc

ill have to re watch tho, i was distracted while watching yesterday.

notes so far:

riding was insane of course. idk if it tops TITA and art of flight but shit, can't blame em there haha

soundtrack was terrible. seriously, fire whichever 13 year old picked that shit

"When Travis gets something in his head, he like just does it until its done."

"Travis just shows us stuff we never thought possible before."

"I just want to ride powder but Travis always has to go do gnarly lines."

"Travis always lands things that people just shouldn't land."

"I didn't know those mountains were there until Travis showed me."

"I didn't know why Travis was telling me all this stuff but when he invited me along, I couldn't believe I was going to be shredding with Travis!"

"Travis is on a mission and it will keep haunting him until he completes that mission."

"Travis really likes boats."

*End credits

There, I just saved you all an hour and a half of people deep-throating Travis.

agreed. of all the riders in the world, t rice should know that he can just let the riding do the talking, but 3 movies later that still isnt happening

but oh well. i can play music over it and enjoy the insane riding

this pretty much sums up the bullshit filler, bravo

woulda been tighter with fewer interviews, and if they would've taken travis' dick out of their mouths every time they talked. riding was insane, just wanted more of it
