is it just me or are the REALLY FUCKING STIFF!?! i was in a store adn looking at em and gave em a flex...it was pretty solid...is that better for pop?

how much stiffness you want in a ski could really go either way tho..

lengthwise stiffness makes the ski more stable at high speed, and more stable on landings. torsional stiffness gives the ski better edge hold. its not the stiffness, but the flex that gives the good pop.

so in that sense stiffness is good, but you want a ski that will go back to its original shape quickly when it flexes.

but it depends on how strong/heavy you are to determine if stiff or soft skis are good for you. if youre strong, go stiffer, if youre not so strong, go softer

 
they arent as stiff as they are hyped up to be...you can butter on them just fine. plus, if you ever land back seat they pop you right to your feet, they dont wash out, like say trouble makers...and because they are stiff they are a dream on rails...if you get the chance watch someone in slow motion hitting a rail on 4frnts and then a different park ski, like say trouble makers, the tips and tails of tm's are bouncing all over the place while 4frnts stay nice and still...if you dont know what this all means...simply put: 4frnts are not stiff, they are just really solid and stable and also trouble makers suck, especially if you got them from cody carter.

^yah thats true.....at least in the shop it is - you can flex the tail of the 170s a bit further than the 180s

and yeah they aren't the stiffest twins by any means, just the most solid and stable

In my experiences on my 4FRNT's they really do butter extremely well, and they are very stable, but they also do have a lot of tail (which can be a little overwhelming sometimes if you are just out cruising all-mountain).

The ski itself is very nice, but keep in mind that all skis are different, and that you will have to put some time on them to get used to em.

they do have a lot of tail, which tool a little getting used to, but as far as stiffness goes, its not like they are really stiff, like say a gs race ski, they are just really strong and solid, not too stiff but tons of pop. i definately noticed myself popping off of jumps a lot easier with them. and they hold through anything at any speed, just a little tough to maneuver quickly if you are going really slow, but this holds true with any stiff ski

 
I flexed the SteelspencePros and i didnt think they were that stiff. They are super light however

they have a lot of tail, exactly what i said. the normal mounting spot is very close to center because the narrowest point of the ski is close to center. so even though the binding is still mounted traditionally over the narrowest point, it is still almost center mount

 
so you have it mounted in center position and not freeride? mine are at freeride position and they don't have any more tail than any other twin i've rode

hey how heavy are the MSPs? they look like really wide, tough skis. are they real heavy too? in comparison to like PE's or fujatives, cuz those are the other skis i'm looking at.

my level of radness... it just can't... be quantified.

a few of mu buddies have them, Mike Hornbeck even rides for them, and they all ahte them. Mikes broken one pair this yr, and my other buddy broke his. Dont sound too durable to me. They also suck for skiing, i wasnt to impressed by them at all....

^ you have bad luck and you infested all your friends with that bad luck...and thats why there skis broke...or they were just ridiing them really, really, really hard.

the msp is quite stiff ( stiffer than the arv) and fairly heavy. the flex pattern does not determine the pop as much as the stiffness does because it is dependant on the stiffness. the stl is stiffer than most park skis, especially compared to the trend of flex in skis. your full of shit dude, saying you borke them. unless your a fat bitch. but who cares any ways they have a 2 year warrnaty so just get new ones.

 
How tall is the tail in mm's? And how's the stiffness and flex compared to rossi' scratch bc's?

i havent ridden them but from flexing them in my room, the msps are really stiff. thats why im saving them for a bc ski

I think softness is good for a pow ski, if you're just making 8's or turning tight in the pow a ski that arcs is crucial. Although when you are charing fast and skiing agressively you can't beat a stiff, fat ski

I just bought a pair of MSPs and they fucking dominate. I was skiing park, bumps, and crud this weekend and they performed everywhere really well. Stiff is good if you want stability for turns or/and if you're a haus mother fucka, i.e. heavy/strong.

I've seen a pair of 4frnt's fall apart after like 6 days of skiing, huge chunks of the top sheet peeled off, and the base and edge of the ski has actually seperated from the rest of the ski, you can slide pennies all the way through. They are by far the least durable skis I've ever seen. I've also heard other stories where the tips of the skis have broken.

What were you flexing? MSP's or STL's?

The MSP's are pretty stiff, the STL's less, but they are managable, you could flex them.
