4frnt question

Well I just found out that 4frnt has the 35% discount for college students, so i can get the TNK or the STL 08 models for $350 each which is rediculously cheap. So here's the question, I'm 6'0'', 180lbs, 20 years old, and an expert skier. I ski around 50% park and 50% all mountain including backcountry. which ski should I get? the TNK's are 115-89-111, and the STLs are 116-84-104 in my sizes, 181 and 183 respectively. 4Frnt basically claims that these skis are both park/pipe skis and that the STL is better on hardpack. I figure it would be better to get one set of skis that can do park and hardpack, and then get a dedicated pow ski later on. On the "ski selector site" it says that neither ski can really do any pow, but isn't 89 at the waist of the TNK enough to go through pow? dimensions seem perfect for an all mountain ski too.

^ Wow. Way to promote the company's products. that rep should be fired.

You certainly don't want the STL is you are hitting BC - i'd still say MSP.

So your only looking at the STL and the TNK?

At 180lbs, i would say the STL would be too soft for you. The TNK is significantly stiffer, and at an 89 waist would do well all over.

yea, but the only thing with the tnk is that you would probably get the 180, but since they measure before they press there skis, it will really only be like a 177ish. and the waist would only be like an 86

oh, and fat skis dont make you a better pow ski, nor do you need fat skis for pow. look what they rode 10 years ago, 75 underfoot and killing it. it all depends on if your a good skier

Fatter skis make it easier though. If you're doing 50/50 all mountain/park I still suggest the MSP's.

you: "yea im lookin at getting the msp's for an all around ski, you know, pow and park. would that be a good decision?"

rep: "no way man. our msp's suck on rails"

hahahahaha

If its just between stls and tnks id say tnks, but i think the msp would be the best for your type of skiing/style

ok well i went to my local shop and they have the msps in stock. i asked them if they give the 4frnt student discount and the guy told me to come back on wednesday, and i also get an additional 20% off at this store. they only have them in the 181, is that long enough for me? someone just said up a while ago that they will actually be shorter since that is the pre press length, but the 181's were taller than me and i'm 182 cm tall. thanks for the input guys

hah, that's not the way he said it. it was more along the lines of "if you are going to be doing a lot of rails, i'd go with a different model as their main use isn't park and they will damage easier"
