4frnt MSP's in a 170... too short?

I'm thinking of buying some 04/05 4frnt MSP's in a 170, but I'm concerned they'll be too short, but if I jump up to a 180 I'm a bit concerned they'll be too long.

What I wouldn't give for a 175. I'm 5'10" and about 165.

Any advice, or perhaps another ski I should be looking at. I need to get the ski for $300 or less.

I'm 26 :) I've been skiing for about 20 years.

I'm looking for options to replace my Atomic GS racing skis with something more versatile and fun, but can still carve. It sounded like the 4frnt's would do the trick, but I'm open to other options as well. My GS skis are 181's, and they're hard to handle, but that isn't entirely because of length. I just figured going shorter would make for a more lively ski, but had hoped to find something in a twin that'd still be stable at speed.

I have a Canadian built Option snowboard from several years back that I LOVE the construction quality on, and I heard that 4frnt has their stuff produced in the same factory, so that kind of tipped my hand a bit.
 
i'm going to say go with the 180, think of it this way, 5cm longer than what you want, plus gives you the option to mount center or plus, where as on a 170 they are short as it is, so moving them up would make them feel even shorter.
 
Hmm... I was actually thinking about mounting bindings back from center to give a little better all-mountain feel.

I just picked up a pair of new Rossi Axial 110's for $65 to throw on whatever skis I decide to buy.

If I'm mounting a little back do you still think 180's are the better bet?
 
I'm also looking at Head Mojo 80's, Line Chronics, and Line Skogan's... I'd considered Armada's, but they seem pretty soft.
 
I'd say definitely go with the 180's...and if you're used to GS skis and aren't going to be spending much time in the park, mount at recommended.

You're riding longer, stiffer, harder to handle skis right now. The twin tip takes a somewhat significant amount of edge contact off the ground, so they feel like shorter skis.

The 180's will feel great.
 
Unfortunately Head seems to have taken the same sizing route as 4frnt. The Mojo 80's go from 172 to 181.

I think quite honestly that other than the 4frnt MSP's in a 180 the Mojo 80 would be a great choice for a good all mountain ski. However I'm in the same sizing conundrum :)

i am 5'9 about 190 and the only reason i got the 170s was cuz i got adamned good deal off of ebay.

I'am an extremely strong skier so i was a little worried about how they would perform. To be honest, i love them and dotn have any issues with them at all.

I mounted them center and they ski all mountain very well.
 
I would suggest the Gun in a 175. They are a solid, damp ski, fat enough for powder, destroy crud, and handle with no problems at high speed.
