Good Evening to all you East Coast skiers. Over the past months there has been multiple posts asking for reviews of the 4FRNT MSP, so I thought I would help a brother out.

Review Vitals:

Skier: Old School Bumper/Racer, East Coast 25 years exp. 6 Feet 2 inches- 195lb.

Skis: MSP 180

Binding: Look ZRS (DIN set to 13, hand bent brakes for the 92MM width)

Boots: Raichle Flexon Comp

Condition: 15 degrees, hard pack, lightly snowing

Trails: 80% groomed, 20% thin, light, crud, leftovers (Zoomer, Avalanche, etc)

Ratings:

Hard Pack- (1-5, 5=Off the hook)

Quickness: 2.5

Stability: 4.5

Feel: 3.75

Overall Impression: 3.5

First runs ruled on the MSP. Cord was nice and firm with some ice under the top inch plus. Skis tracked incredible in long/straigth line turns. The ski handles all the speed I could give it, (even fakie) Even in medium radius turns with a little forward pressure the ski carved well. Short turns we another story with the ski wanting to wash out. As the conditions got skied off the MSP was a little timid on the glare ice, but not a scary ride..... it is all about angle.

Soft/Crud-

Quickness: 3

Stability: 4

Feel: 4

Overall Impression: 4

The ski reacted well in the chop especially the non-bumped out sections. The softer tip of the MSP seemed to help the ski track in a 'Drunken Boxer' style, swirving and weaving without lose of control or feel.

Pipe/Park/Air: Not available at this time (I will update on a later date, NO PARK @ Cannon as of 12/19/03).... Note: Off a few rolls going 40MPH, I mached a few straight grabs and the ski had a nice feel in the air. I also rode this fakie for a few section going mach 5 and it rocked! AN AWESOME PLATFORM FOR FAKIE FLATLAND!

Overall Review and Rec:

The ski was HOT! As an East Coast ski it is not your 'everydayer' but if you ski a ton of wide groomers with no 'Joeys' and like to hit the park this is a good second ski along with a nice mid-fat (70-80mm waist) for the East Coast. It is also great for those powder/crud days. I think it will also rock for spring skiing corn piles.

Hope this was helpful!

yesterday was my first day out. i noticed that the base is very weak. i already have a like cm deep gash, and some scratches, hopefully just in the wax. the topsheet is very weak too. a lot of it is peeling which kinda suck, mostly on the edges. they are my first fat ski, and i noticed the float a lot on the snow, on like groomers. the first few times i tried jumps they would drift away from me once i landed a bit, but i think i am getting the hang out of it. i really like how htey ski though, really nice in pow, i just wish they didnt delaminate and scratch so easy. by the way, i live in Colorado, just ot let people know about the conditions they were used in.

yea, i fucking love them. the bases arent weak on mine. i have gone over logs and shit when i was skiing off trail and they are fine. the sidewalls do chip pretty easily, but the topsheet soesnt seem like its gonna delam. its a really solid ski. they are stiff as hell though, so if u are looking to do butters and stuff, look for another ski.
