4bi9 Beggin' For Change

I'm sorry...this is going to have to happen in your thread...but I really need to get this off my chest...it has nothing to do with you personally.

I love being able to buy music, tv shows, and movies off of itunes (or any other download service for that matter) just as much as everyone else. HOWEVER, what people don't understand is that by a ski production company putting their product on itunes they are loosing money versus people buying the DVD directly from them because itunes (and everyone else) takes a huge cut of the profit (almost 50%) versus the couple of dollars it costs them for the dvd each. Do I buy ski movies off of iTunes...yes...but I ALSO have the DVD sitting on my shelf, cause I want to support the companies that work their asses off to entertain me and I think the quality is far better than the itunes versions, the only reason I get the itunes version is if I really like the movie and I want to have it on my computer or ipad for travelling. And, the whole "I don't want to wait for the DVD" is stupid...I have Weight sitting 2 feet away from me right now...but I can't find it on itunes...if you pre-order the DVD, or even order it when it's released and you can hear the reviews you will most likely get it before it's on itunes because most companies don't release the itunes/digital download version until a month after the initial shipping of the movie, and it takes like 2-5 days for the movie to arrive at your door...and it usually comes with sweet stuff (stickers, sometimes t-shirts or bandanas...and you get the actual hard copy of the product). I do realize that it's sometimes slightly cheaper to get the itunes version...but again...support the company that's going to entertain you (and I'd bet the reason it's cheaper is because that way they don't get hit as hard by itunes...so they're taking a hit).

Bottom line...if you want these companies to continue to be able to film and produce these great movies that entertain us endlessly...BUY THE DVD OFF OF THEIR SITE!

Sorry for the rant, hate if you want...I don't really care, I'd rather support the companies.

That's one thing...I'm talking about the people in North America that can get it...if you don't have access to the DVD, then get if through digital download, I don't have a problem with that.

True...I guess I just remember budgeting, doing odd jobs, saving up all summer, and picking very carefully exactly which movies I'd choose to order. I guess I'm just oldschool...but in that case...don't post all over NS asking if/when movies will be available, be patient, and keep yours peeled. I'm really just sick of EVERY SINGLE THREAD about a movie having the same question "when's it going to be on itunes?" (sometimes by the same people) if you can't afford the DVD then you have to wait...that's just the way it is.

especially if they want to see more than one. with your logic if I, with access to all American companies films, were to buy even 4 movies we are looking at around $120. sorry thats not gonna happen. I usually buy 1 dvd a year and get the rest as downloads.

Lol at first poster. People aren't going to listen to you. Why?- Dvd transaction can take up to weeks at a time to complete (when it arrives at your doorstep)- Dvd costs more money (of which most skiers do not have)
+ itunes transaction takes roughly 10 minutes.+ Itunes download costs significantly less.

Its an inconvenient truth

its not very cost effective for people outside of the states to buy dvd's. i've personally been charged up to 1.6x the cost of the original product in duty charges on stuff shipping from the states, not to mention how expensive shipping to canada is in general.

dude ,im pretty sure if ski movie companies are making their movies available for digital download it's because there is money to make. chances are the fact that it's cheaper than the dvd, more people will purchase= ski movie companies make ENORMOUS amounts of profit.

Yes, I understand that it's cheaper to buy off of itunes...fine, I'll take it...if you want to buy it there, go for it, I'm still going to buy the DVDs because A. I can afford it and 2. I want to support the industry.

But, people need to understand WHY it takes so long for movies to get the itunes and why only a few companies do it. First of all, itunes take 30% (I actually researched it) of every dollar you spend on a movie...so, if a movie costs roughly $10, only $7 of that is actually reaching the company, instead of the $13-$25 they get off the DVD. So why would companies rush to get it on there? Also, the people who pre-ordered the DVDs have the right to get the movie first, they took the risk and paid for the movie sometimes months in advance.

So, basically what I'm trying to say is...stop asking about the digital download...if you REALLY, REALLY want to know, email the company instead of filling every thread about the movie up with comments like "digi-download??" because we don't know (other than After Dark which advertised a halloween release), the first person who asked didn't get answered for a reason...and then don't go making a thread asking about it too (again, not attacking OP cause I don't know if he did this or not...however, I have witnessed several people ask the same questions in several threads and then decide to make their own thread asking the same question when they don't get an answer...it's annoying...and doesn't contribute to the conversation about the movie itself...don't believe me? go look at some threads about "Weight").

Anyways, I'm done with this topic, order off of itunes if you want...I guess if the company is willing to put it up there, then go for it. Sorry if I offended anyone, not my intention.

if its cheaper and allows me to ski more, then yes...i will buy the digi download.

I got rent to pay, food to buy, and insurance to pay. My life isnt 100% skiing...hell, its like literally less than 5% of my life, so why would i spend more money on it than i have to?

Oh and fuck you, buy the download and spend the difference on an actual good cause like starving children in 3rd world countries...not some white kid from a rich family, who chose to try and make a career out of a sport for the affluent.

Like someone else said, I get usually 1 or 2 DVD's, then rest are digital DL. It is just more cost efficient and portable

solution: Put up digi downloads independent of itunes. company doesnt fork over money to a middleman, i dont pay 30 bucks a pop for something ill possibly watch once, and we don't waste pointless plastic that neither of us want to pay for

ive bought waay too many ski movies for the past ten years, there's almost 0% chance ill buy a DVD again, but i do like to get the downloadable ones. can anyone drop some knowledge on me and explain why companies dont do their own download and forget itunes?

first, you understand that most of the money that supports most ski film production companies comes from sponsors, right? for example, Dendrite studios sold pretty well but couldn't afford to release their second film because they were unable to secure funding from sponsors.

second, ski film production companies usually pay a distribution company to distribute their films. Why do you think most ski movies start with "VAS entertainment?" that's not the production company, that is a distributor. and guess what??? distributors charge a percentage as well. itunes is just another distributor.

you kids are dumb!

I like digi downloads because they can be in HD if the company decides to. being able to watch Art of Flight in HD on my big tv is so sick. I think that companies should start moving away from dvds and focusing on digital downloads. Less money for the company but then the company pays less money to distribute their movie. One nice thing about DVDs are bonus features which you dont get with digi downloads.

It is a supple and demand effect. The people that can afford DVDs will order them when they want. But other people can't afford them (ie: the poor college student - aka myself) are forced to wait for the itunes release. Shipping to some places around the world may take longer than the time for the itunes drop, and theres a high likelihood that the DVD could be lost in its logistics. So for some people purchasing the movies off of itunes is a smaller opportunity cost than purchasing the DVD directly.

I highly support buying the DVD directly from the company as it ensures that films will be produced in the future. If I could afford the DVD, i would buy it, but I cannot.

I cant believe what I've learned in the last 4 years of college is actually applying to Newschoolers. lol (and now i feel like a nerd, but ill never be a pro skier so i might as well learn something)

videograss included some bonus features with both of their movies available for digital download (shoot the moon and retrospect). as did transworld with their skate video this year. bonus features can be added if the company wants to put them there.

another thing is that digital downloads can be in hd, while dvds arent and blurays cost like 35 bucks plus you got to have a blu ray player.

although itunes does sucks...stupid drm restrictions and they take a huge cut of the profit,

the only reason its used for most tv/movie downloads is because a lot of people know about it but and media companies want to access many demographics. i doubt many non-skiers buy ski movies and we're lucky enough to have a tight community so even if they used some unknown digital download service it wouldnt really hurt their sales.

This thread isn't about Beggin for Change at all haha. Just thought I would drop in to say that the premier is tonight in SLC. If you are near here, get there.

Dawg. The more Karma you receive, the better you are at skiing. Why do you think orange names have so much?

you're kidding right?

Skiing is very high up on the list of affluent sports. We're talking kids that drop $150 on a single sweatshirt.

its just business man. no one is forcing these companies to put their videos on iTunes. In the end I would argue the ski movie companies will make more money because a) its more accessible to more people b) people who may have never seen/known about these niche ski movies might see it on iTunes.

Personally I would never have bought Art of Flight, but since I was bored and on my computer, I grabbed it for 9.99. Even if Apple is taking 50%, they just made 5 bucks they normally would not have.

Anyways, I see what your saying, but I think the big picture is that it's a good thing for the movie companies.

This thread in now about the movie/SLC premier. I thought it was easily the best 4bi9 movie ever, I had kind of been drifting away from the company but no more. Mcchesney was banger as expected. Went back to their roots which are hood as shit. If you don't like this you havent been around 4bi9 movies/edits for long enough. It reminds me of all their old stuff EXCEPT the cinematography is sick now, where as it used to be lacking. BUY THE MOVIE

Agreed. 4bi9 f'in killed it with this one. I went in more looking forward to Level 1, but Beggin for Change blew me away and the crowd was HYPED throughout the entire movie. Ill def be buying.

flashkick is probably the most helpful member on this site, so don't tell people to fuck off when you've contributed nothing yourself, he has an excellent point
also, if you're man enough to use your mommy and daddy's ITunes account, you should be man enough to ask for their credit card and just order the DVD instead of coming on here and bitching
