3’s

it’s my second season in the park and I’m seeing a lot of progression on jumps. I can 3 with pretty much 100% consistency if I don’t make a huge error. The problem is that I cannot grab or even lift up my knees in the air and everything feels panicked. I know I said I can 3 on command, but i feel like I have no autonomy in the air and just spin and look.

How do I make a more controlled spin and grab??

you said it yourself.

lift up your knees. Start with just working on str8 air with grabs, then take it to a 180, etc.

really nice crossed grabs (mutes, tails, etc.) don't just happen. you have to physically lift your feet and make that cross.

Riding without poles for a while got me comfortable with grabbing. (I can still only safety, and get the occasional japan. My goal is to get a good tailgrab or stalefish by the end of the season).

Once the muscle memory let me find my ski without looking, I picked up the poles again and it's been pretty seamless since.

Pop really hard into the face of the jump and then spin. Proper technique for spins makes them with grabs like butter

Patience. T set pop, keep eyes foreward til 90º, then reach for the grab. Real hard when you rush to the grab right off the end of the jump cause at that point your balance is fucked.

Take a few steps back. Practice various grabs while doing a straight air. Then practice doing grabs and shifties with 180s. Learn how to pop effectively and how to carve off jumps too.
