3D Ski Edit Live

Hey guys & girls,
Ever since I got more than one GoPro HD camera, I have had 3D on the back of my mind. This edit is the most recent product of a culmination of weeks of trials and testing, rigging up camera systems, and figuring out software. It is by no means a final end product, but merely a view of the progress I’ve been making in working with 3D.To view this edit properly, please use Red/Cyan anaglyph 3D glasses. You can purchase some from Amazon, or get some for FreeThe edit was shot last weekend (February 20th) in one day and 14 runs at Mammoth Mountain. Two GoPro HD cameras were rigged parallel with lenses about 5 inches apart at the end of a ski pole hanging with GoPro handle-bar mounts. To splice the footage together in post-production, the 3D Glasses filter in After Effects was used. The footage was then all brought into Final Cut for editing.I experimented both in having black and white footage and colored footage. Since the glasses are colored, you sometimes get some interference with the colors in the video. The way I have it edited, I can easily re-export the entire video as separate eyes and if I had the equipment - play it on a setup like you saw Avatar with polarized glasses. The result would be much cleaner and more crisp - but for now since we don't all have 3D TV's or multiple projectors, blue/red glasses will have to do.For those that actually have glasses - I apologize if it hurts your brain, tried to do my best to get clean footage.Enjoy and be sure to check out our website for more edits and such: http://www.uscsnowsports.org

Wow mate that was sick!! I loved it, especially when i got a face shot, haha. With more practice and work its going to be even more epic. As always though the edit itself was also fantastic. The colour shots wernt really that much worse than the black and white, cant wait till you nail that. Keep up the good work, these are very fun to watch.

i dunno if they still do it but for awhile they sold 3D glasses at blockbuster. they were like 99 cents.

this is a sick edit, and a sick idea.

I know nothing about cameras and editing software, but is it possible to make an edit like that using the technology they used for Avatar? I can't see 3d stuff with the blue/red glasses very well...

read my post - yes it is, but you need the hardware to run it, which pretty much no one has.

I've got an 23in hd monitor to watch this on, and that shit was crazy! Close ups on the rails and getting snow thrown at me was pretty ridiculous, great work guys.

The camera separation wasn't too great, and the way GoPros are, the further away stuff won't look super 3D. That being said, try watching and take off the glasses for a sec and put them back on, you'll definitely notice the depth

I'm uploading a version right now that you'll be able to choose what colored glasses or to just watch it regular or cross eyed.. I'll post the link soon
