3D image of the Face on mars

I like how NASA spends billions of billions of dollars to capture an image of a rock forumation that looks kind of like a face on another planet.

A fraction of that money could be used to benifit earth and bring fresh water to everyone on this planet.

Why the fuck are they spending it taking pictures of other planets when they could be using it to help solve our problems here?
 
I never thought I would say this but i completly agree with ryno. I am not a tree hugger at all but we do need to focus a little more on where we live oposed to what "could" be out there
 
i dont want to sound like an asshole, but i dont think it was nasa, wasnt it the europians... i mean it was a euro satalite
 
the usa sends water imports in a form of grain, which water was used to make it. the usa annually exports 90 million tons of grain which has needed 90 billion tons of water. by 1980 the government spent $400 billion for capital investments addressing water resource development, like purifiying water and reducing pollution in water.

I agree, more money could be spent on getting the third world on its feet, but taking away money from scientific research is a stupid idea. While this seems extravagant (yes, even I'll admit to that) lots of other projects NASA is working on will really change our world. Its inevitable that humans will move off Earth at some point and colonize other places as our need for natural resources grows stronger, and we'll need the knowledge and technology we've invested in over the years in NASA and other space programs to get us there when the time comes.

Besides, there are many more things we waste money on. We spend $1,000,000,000 a week running Iraq for instance.
 
Well, i highly doubt that it is a man-made structure, we dont go around saying the "face of the moon" creates any speculation about extra-terrestrial life building craters in the shape of a face. Its all done by coincidence.

Newer cheaper and lighter materials that could provide a shelter for refugees... ceramics for insulating things. Now I'm just making things up... an upside down pen - NASA
 
why are people wasting money skiing when there are starving people in third world countries??
 
Waste of money... argueable. However, the potential implications that this "face" might have had would have been phenomenal. Relatively close to that "face" are also structures that some believe to be pyramids and at admittedly, do somewhat resemble pyramids. Now imagine what this would mean or probably more accurately said, would have meant if this were a distinguisable face. Essentially, a large portion of the worlds populations beliefs would have been thrown out the window, or would, at the very least, have caused a large rethinking of them.

While I agree that there are many other things that money could be spent on, I also think that there is a large necessity to explore beyond our own earth, not only to find out how/why we came about and where we might go - both here (on earth) and perhaps further.

Lastly, this is a European mission.
 
beause ski9ers probly spend about a billion a year, th US spends like a billion a week, JUSt for the war in iraq?
