anyone used any of the lower end panasonic or sony 3ccd video cams? thinking of the panasonic pv-gs200 or gs120.... anyone have this? would be cool to see some video shot with 'em.

lookin for video that can be given the ever elusive 'film look' but dont have the budget for a progressive scan camera...

Hate to break it to you but there realy isnt and camcorders out there that give the 'Ever elusive film look'. Also those low end 3 ccd camcorders are just a marketing ploy. The term '3ccd' has become just another thing for marketing, much like how many megapixels a digital camera has. It really isn't the most important thing in quality. I would say just go with one of the better single ccd camera, the ccd is much bigger than each of the 3 on the other camcorder. Look into a Canon Optura or Sony's DR thing or whatever. Hoped that helped out a little bit.

I have lots of expierence with the canon XL1s. The filmed 28 days later with that camera and if you work it right it looks very good. Its got a lot of stuff you can change which is confusing at first if you dont know what your doing, but work with it a little and your movies will look and sound awesome.

Look for any camcorder that has 24p which is the progressive mode 24 fps which is used by a lot of independent filmakers to give it the 'indie' look.

Good luck.

okay, i'll explain a little more what i meant...

first off yeah, i know that you can't get 'film look' from cheapo 3ccds and that the most important thing in that is progressive scan which only the more expensive ($3000+) consumer cams do...

what i meant is more along the lines of 'is video and color quality from cheaper 3ccd cams better than higher end single ccd cams?'

i'm after some good color definition in video so that i can then run it through some film look filters in after effects or premiere to try...

i have the panasonic pv gs 120 and it shoots real clear stuff. i love this camera. its small and has decent manual controls

If you're looking to even get close to 'that elusive film look' dont even think about getting a piece of shit '3ccd' panasonic or the cannon optura. If youre willing to spend a little more, go with either a new vx2k or used vx1k, once you learn more about custom presets and lighting situations, you can achive a more 'film grain apperence.' The vx1k's colors are slightly warmign than the vx2k or vx21k, but doesnt re-draw black as well. Ebay is the way to go

u can get a gl-1 for about 1200-1500 on ebay depnding on accesoris and contion so ya do that it has great manual settings and a nice pitcure quialty a lot better than one of those piece of shit panosonicsn and you would only spend bout 500 more or so

ya i have the panasonice pvgs120 or whatever. i cant remember. But ya i shoots nice and very small and easy to use.

so right now I am debating between the panasonic PV-GS400 or the canon optura Xi the canon is a single chip and I can get for around $400. the PV-GS400 is a 3 chip and over $800. just wondering which I should go for, I am also tight on money.

yea i just have a panasonic 3ccd, i like it, the color comes out good but only when the weather is good, If its dark out it sucks. But its not bad for the cost, wouldnt pay over 600 for it though
