ive started landing 3's really smoothly on 5-10 ft jumps, i can do grabs and am no longer landing backseat. I am wondering if there are any tips that you can give to help me get up to a 540
make sure that your 3s are slow enough so that you have the time to add an extra rotation. after that, just make sure that you can do 180s easy on the jump to get used to landing it switch, and then just commit and keep looking over your shoulder until you make it around to 450 and spot your landing
I just recently made the extremely awkward-transition from 360 to 540 myself. Everything ^^ they're saying is pretty much right. More speed, bigger jump, more commitment. When you hit 360, just picture yourself doing a simple 180. Don't open up at 360, and whatever you do, you shouldn't spin faster. That is a sure way to mess yourself up pretty bad.
recently i was just going for a 3 off a jump and i forgot how hard to spin so i think i spun too much and i did a 5, i have done one before but it felt weird cuz i wasnt trying to do one. So the next run i go for a 5 but then i accidentally spin too much and go too fast i did a 7, it was pretty funny
ya i was hitting the same jump and it is just a case of a bigger jump, o and spot ur landing or you will eat shit and prob over or under roate, don t as all i am saying is i had a bit of shin bang
if you feel comfortable go for it, it is all mental, but i threw my first one off a 25-30 footer so it wasnt that big. i cant throw grabs with 5's so i would recommend trying just doing a 5 without a grab, but this may make some unstable (personal preference)....after a while of doing 3's your muscles/body gets use to opening up after a 360 but try to keep spinning and sort of override what comes natural(at least it happened for me)
spot the landing at 3, then throw in the 180, but keep it smooth and dont stop the spin with your legs, keep them tucked. this is also how i learned shifties
Try this. Stay tucked and spining until 2 seconds after your skis hi the ground. I did this when I was trying to a get a 1and a half off the diving board. What will happen is, you get the 540, or crash a 630 or land a 720. If you open up while trying to do a 540 and being used to a 3, you will crash and get a lot more hurt than crashing tucked or spining. don't think in the air. all this coming from a guy who just landed his first 3 yesterday. Good luck
