Here's a thought. No one gives a fuck what you or your little "crew" think. Rail transfers are difficult. People like them. The people who like them don't go and hate on what you think is cool in skiing. That's because everyone likes different things about skiing, and hate on anyone doing any kind of progression for the sport is fucking retarded. You're fucking retarded. You think you're a real badass because you're on the interweb and no one knows who you are, so you can say what you want and lol u get 2 laff at ppl from behind your computer screen because they get angry when you make yourself into an obnoxious toolbag. Aight foo's so Ima lay it out straight son. I'm gittin two sides outta dis hurr discussion.

1. Skiing is not progressing in the right direction because people are veering torwards double flips and the such so everyone is a robot right? The alternative you are presenting does not improve anything... all that would happen would be that everyone would not spin over 540 and have a trendy pokemon hip bag. This would turn everyone into robots throwin down way easier shit and there would be virtually no differences in ANYONES style.

2. Everything that involves lots of spinning and flipping= SOOO LEGIT! While they are impressive stuff like dumont's front flip to front full he has to fight to pul it around and it just looks really forced.

There is definately a medium in between all this. I am fully down with watching tricks that are amazing in their subtleties such as noollie lips, tail slides, nose presses, butters etc... It also takes people to push the more athletic side of the sport. While obviously tail slides and such take athleticism I find they fall more in the category of "art" whereas double flips take alot of practice and air sense. These are almost comparable to an abstract painting and a person's portrait. The abstract painting takes its value from having the observer be able to go wherever they wish with it and make with it what they will although it has no defined form. A portrait cannot take on different meanings, it is layed out flat and it is in your face. They are BOTH valid forms of art and both can be admired and get stoked on. In the end I just don't think it's necessary to find fault in the "progression of skiing". People will have fun doing what they want and as long as they are stoked while skiing, why should others judge them and tell them essentially "they're not doing it the right way". Art takes on many different forms yet each has it's merit. As long as you(the thread creator) are having fun while on the hills, streets, wherever, why does it bother you so much what others are having fun doing? I get stoked on all aspects of the sport. I still have my favourite tricks that I enjoy doing but I will get stoked if someone else does something I wouldn't normally do and don't try to bring them down because they have a different way of getting the best experience out of their riding then me.

here is my opinion on rail transfers though:

they are really hard, take a lot of effort, look fucking impressive, remind me of rollerblading (i'm not hating on blading), and just...extreme.

it's fine if people decide to do them, i just wish the general public looked more into peoples skiing. there is more to it than just what is blatantly in your face, there is so much personality and flow involved but that side gets overlooked by the majority (prove me wrong). video parts often (not always) consist of tricks that look really hard and extreme.

i think that we should look into our roots and perfect everything that we have done and add to it before it gets out of hand but there is nothing that a few people can do to change what the entire sport of skiing will progress to.

so everybody go do what the fuck you want to do, not what is cool to do! get inspired by things around your everyday life, look at who you are, express yourselves!

when that happens, the sport will change in a very good way.
 
Scott I think your post is right on.

I fully agree that it would not be ideal if everyone stopped doing these crazy double flips and big spins and rail transfers etc. I think that those things are a valid (who am I to say they aren't) part of the sport, and I want the sport to continue to progress and try new things etc.

All I think, as Zaser already touched on, is that there is a horrible imbalance in skiing right now. If anything I think that style should be more important than just what trick you are doing, but at the very least it should be relevant. I dont mean style as in "omg I held my arms down and afterbanged" but rather style as in really having that next level of flow and subtlety and expression to your skiing.

It's like music. Sure I'm down with having some gnarly guitar shredders, cause it keeps it spicy. But I want to hear some expressive music too!

Afterall this is a sport. Don't try to overly turn skiing into an art form. True there are expressions of style but skiing isnt an abstract interpretive dance. Its still a sport. and you guys suck at sports.

It is a bit more complicated than it seems (or maybe not...but we will know soon). But the one kid got an IP ban, so we will see what happens there.

Maybe you don't know shit about who I am or my skiing, and until you do you shouldn't make baseless assumptions. It is a valid argument to say that your statements are unfounded and point out that you have never seen us skiing. I am not saying you should believe that I am a good skier, but you should not make assumptions that I am not until you have seen.

Even if I wasnt a steezy and decent skier I would still have every right to bash skiers that are better than me. In the same way that I can bash a shitty hollywood movie even if I can't make it myself. Just because you can't do something doesn't mean you can't bash it... Skiing is a dance but its not an interpretive one! At least not the form of skiing here. It is still an athletic activity. Interpretive skiing would be me doing nothing lapping the parks not hitting anything saying im expressing myself. In your type of skiing theres no good nor bad. theoretically everyone would be expressing him or herself no matter what! If he or she was copying someone elses, style, one could say he was simply trying to express his need for imitation! your logic is flawed on many levels.
