ok I got some pics to upload. I know how to upload them, but how do I get a 30kb pic thats not black and white, blurry and the size of a postage stamp??? some of the pics on this site are nice and big and sharp. how'd they do it???

no - you gotta get pics down to 30k. i know - 30k is reasonable for an icon, but not a pic. I put them in 256 colour, but that only shaves a few kbs off. what else can I do?? cuz theres pics posted that gotta be bigger or compressed somehow.

when you scan it (if you scan it) size it right there, before saving it. thats the easiest way.

its fine, all the photos have to be under 30k to preserve bandwith. You wanna make them 72dpi, and then you the save for web settign in photoshop to compress them.

sorry, but I can get almost any pic under 500x500 under 30k without losing much quality... you must REALLY have no idea what you are doing....

Dpi definately at 72, and definately use photoshop and feature, under those conditions its simple, and if that still doesn't please you Image Ready can do it a tad better

photoshop is a great package for compressing pics. but yeah w gotta respect the ns bandwith. soooooo, what you can do is put your pics (uncompressed if you like) onto a free server and then link to them from there.

i.e you take a pic, scan it, its 250kb or there about. upload to your free server (lycos, freeservers.com wherever.) and then in your post use this code:

filename.extension'


that links your pic to the server and bang its posted

or you can use GIMP. when you save files, it asks you for a target size, so just set that to 30k.
