3000 mile 48 hour mission OH to FL

So my friends and I love top gear and one day we brought up how they are always doing rediculous road trips. So we started discussing how far we could drive in a weekend.

So we decided to drive to key west this weekend.

With our path we made it an even 3000 miles and we are trying to do it 48 hours. Three of us will be going in my friends mustang GT which will NOT be comfortable but its worth the story,

We have most of the necessary supplies like red bull and, well, red bull but I am appealing to the NS community to give me your ideas for other fun stuff to bring, fun stuff to do, cool places to stop, etc. We do have a white board to write messages to other motorists which could be fun. We are leaving Friday July 17 at 4:30 PM EST and returning (if all goes to plan) on Sunday at 4:30 PM EST.

Also if you know of some good Android apps or games that will make the trip fun let me know.

SPARK NOTES: Going from Ohio to Key West Florida and back in a weekend, give me some ideas to make it even more epic.

jesus thats far as shit. bring snacks, and lots of em. and try to get a lot of rest, it's no fun driving when you are about to pass out from exhaustion.

Not a great idea, you will be driving most of the time so it really won't be that fun of a trip. I would plan a week instead of just a weekend.

I love driving with friends places and doing stupid stuff.

A friend of mine has a bronco, with the roll down back window. So we took lawn chairs and put them in the back. We took two fern plants from my house and put them back their aswell.

With my friend driving around town and on the highway we sat in the back with african hats and binoculars.

We then preceded to point at cars, and then look at them through binos. Best car trip ever

You need more Red Bull, E-shots if you can get them, so much better when driving in my opinion. NO need to keep cold.

Where are you leaving from in Columbus? and do you mean June 17th or July 17th? because that's like a months difference.

Whatever the date, F the haters, have fun, road trips like this are entertaining, I've been meaning to do one myself sometime soon but I need something more fun then my Durango to drive around in.

I feel so sorry for you! This is by no means a waste of gas and money! This is an incredible way to create an amazing experience!!
I highly encourage everyone to travel around the country- I know gas prices are high, but if you get a bunch of kids in on it like he's doing it turns out to be very doable.
Have an epic time!!!! Post pics and stories when you get back!!

I have told a few people at work and they have tried to tell us to stay longer in Florida, its stupid, why don't you stay down there etc..

The point is, there is no point, it is simply for our entertainment; I think that is what people do not get.

My time is cheap even if gas is not. I will try to keep things updated, post pictures, and so on. I am real stoked for it and I think its gunna be a great time and a great story to tell. Thanks for the positive vibes.

Such a good attitude....
I used to always do random shit like this - and it always turned out epic.... especially with the boys,
Watch the movie road trip before you go to get you psyched! haha - epic movie.
A good plan in life is a flexible plan.... yeah you'll be doing a lot of driving, but fuck, driving is fun! I wish more Americans would take the initiative to get out and see their own country like this..... road trips here are amazing! (Coming from a brit who lives in murica).... i've had some epics with the boys.....
Enjoy!

You will be miserable. Road trips are awesome when you have a place to go, and time to do it. 3000 miles in 48 hours? You'll basically be driving nonstop to make that happen. That means rotating driving 24 hours a day, sleeping in the car. Being in the car isn't the fun part of a road trip, it's the chore. Wait and do your trip when you can spend some time enjoying it, not sitting in a car for 48 straight hours.

He's right. That's the only flaw I see in your plan. Why not take your time and give yourself a full week to do it so you can stop in random little towns and see what the eastern U.S. is all about.
The idea is awesome- but there's no reason to rush and make it happen in 48 hours!

To all people who are saying how boring this road trip will be: It will most likely be more entertaining than Ohio.

A friend of mine hitch hiked/longboarded from new jersey to Florida over the course of a week or so. He said it was one of the most fun and exciting things hes ever done

yeah dude, dont be stupid. if youre gonna go on a road trip at least enjoy the place you go to. ive done a few mass to cali/colorado trips and the best part of the actual driving is the end of it.

I think u guys should take your time to enjoy all the new places your going to! But as long as u have fun go for it, drive safe!

If I were you, I would make two one-way trips (one on each route) and kick it for a day or two in Key West. It's super beautiful there. Good luck though, that sounds epic

Definitely this. Whenever I've been on a long drive and had to be somewhere by a given time I've always wanted to stay around longer and check out places that I'd driven through. The South east is definitely a cool place too--so much history and culture and all that jazz. I'm not sure if you're deadline is work-defined or whatever, but I'd definitely recommend giving yourself time to at least check some places more in depth. I always think it's so cool to go to a place you've never heard of and try to get a feel for what it would be like to be someone living there--probably such a different experience from what you're used to where you live and definitely eye-opening.

Have fun!

ive already done two day trips with my friends this summer.

first one was to nyc to catch a sox yanks game on the fly

and then yesterday we decided to head to boston to be there for game 7

now we are either gunna try to go somewhere farther towards like chicago or maybe a 3 day hiking or canoeing trip

you sir are not going to have time to stop. i am not sure you know what you are getting yoruself into

you sir are not going to have time to stop. i am not sure you know what you are getting yourself into

there is an app for android where you can connect it to your computer and it creates an internet source through the phone, which could be helpful/useful on the road

driving 600 miles in 1 day to omaha next week for the college world series with 4 other friends. we go every year, its a ton of fun.

I drove from NY to AZ in 3 days, 2300 miles this was like 14-15 hours each day haha, make sure you have tons of music... like lots and lots of fucking music

my limit is 1000 miles per day, but that's when i'm driving alone. 3000 miles in 2 days is do able, but it's going to suck, you have no time to stop at all. that trip doesn't sound too fun, i'd honestly do a shorter trip that stays off interstates. it's a lot more fun driving on random 2 lane highways/roads than interstates. Plus you get to see a lot more scenery than just Subway/McDs and gas stations. It would be a much more pleasurable trip. Driving around Appalachia is really nice, especially on more secluded highways although I've only seen NY, PA and WV. Definitely want to check out TN, NC, VA etc.

I mean I think the idea is cool, but the entire idea of a road trip is the destination... Your just be cramped in a car for 48 hours straight.. It would be sick if you spend a week in the keys, but if your just gonna go on a 48 hr drive i just can't see the fun in that. Being stuck in a car for 48 hours sucks even if your with your buds.

My friend and I did something similar. Had 4 days off work and we just set out driving east without a real destination other than to hit the ocean. You're gunna have a great time. Just go in with no expectations.

well you could do it this way, you have 48 hours travel time total, when you get to key west call halftime, party like hell that night, then resume game the next day....adds some handicap to the mix

this is exactly what I was going to suggest. i don't know what droid you are using, but I've got my evo rooted and have an app called wireless tether. it allows me to tether my laptop through my phone's data connection so I have internet access wherever I go. I would do this, and get a power inverter for your car so you can plug a laptop in to the cigarette lighter ($50 at best buy). Then you will have interwebz for the entire trip and can post updates on NS. You can also watch Netflix while cruising down the highway. Clutch for a long road trip.

Yes I know it is stupid, but that is kind of the point. It is more just for the story and to have a good time. Plus we all need to be back to work on monday, thus the 48 hour time limit.

I did grab a power inverter for my laptop and the tethering program, thanks for the tip.
