When traveling for skiing I love southwest. Bags are free and they’ll count your skis and boot bag as 1 bag. I’ve flown into LGA on them a lot. And I use them to go to RNO all the time. They should have decent flights for you

Good to know. Id like to fly w all my shit, but i can also ship them to the house prior.

I'm playing sober and she's a horror fanatic so it's all good. I watched my buddy play it when it launched on mushrooms which was a terrible trip though.

Exactly! It’s pretty rad how many older skaters there are.

Hell yeah dude on the hobbies. But man don’t push it too hard at first but I bet you got the skating. Muscle memory!

Yeah man, im also doing a revisit of all these hobbies i had as a kid with a much more adult approach. Fishing and Guitar have been my obsessions as of late. I wish i could skate again, but im so afraid of rolling my ankle again, i fear if i do itll be the final straw for whatever muscle/ligament is down there lol

Dude, fr skating was such a passion/romance for millennials. We never lost any love for it, just got hurt eventually lol. I can still pop a pretty decent ollie, hospital flip and fakie big spin... muscle memory for the win. I'll skate here n there if were at a nice spot, I'm just not willing to die for it like I was back in hs/college. I miss those days man... God that phrase make me feel lame as fuck but luckily this is a old head/Unc safe zone.

I low key talk to my therapist about this a lot.

I got fucked up with injuries skiing and skating in 2022 and am just not willing to push it as much as I used to. Have to remind myself that just cruising is ok too. Also turning 30 felt like a pretty good excuse to slow things down a bit.

Still a skater even if I'm not jumping off stuff or bombing hills anymore.

Yeah man, life is short... skiing dangerously can make it even shorter lol. But i wouldn't say i've slowed down on skis.. im just more calculated with my stunts these days. Still progressing. But I used to be the first one to try any feature/jump. Now Im stretching for 10 mins in the lot before we gear up. I wanna sit and look at the big features for a bit, maybe watch a few people hit it first.

Skater forever dude. I still get pegged as one and i don't even really dress "skater" anymore

It took me a while to find someone to talk to but I have a good therapist now, it's helpful. Journaling has also helped me stay sane and focused thru work and grad school.

Being 40 is weird. I can walk and ski without any issues but if I run for more than 5 miles my knees feel like they’re ready to explode. MCL and LCL pain galore.

[tag=266827]@oldmanski[/tag] is this your malt? Cheers to you my friend! Rainer brewed in Lacrosse WI

Unfortunately, it is not. They get it from another local company that is one of our competitors. We currently supply to many bourbon whisky distilleries and not so much brewing. We are trying to change that though, reason for my presence here in WI is to get a maltings up and operational specifically for brewing.

Hope all is well! Missing our ski days, I will try and make it over there this winter.

Not sure that's the age. Might have to do with the shape you're in. stretching and squats work wonders

I feel it. I do feel I’m more calculated and work myself into things more as opposed to just going for it. But I do enjoy pushing myself and the thrill.

Therapist is a game changer. I started it recently and it’s surprising all of the little things that start changing.

PS get a freeride board. A little bit of a step down from a bombing on a downhill board. Fun to ride on hills but you can also keep it mellow and push/cruise if you want.

Has plenty to do with age. With age comes wear. I do plenty of stretching. I did long distance running as a kid and throughout high school and a decent amount after. I put a lot of wear on my knees. I’ve had them checked out and this is just what I have to deal with. That’s why my only issues come when I run or jog now.

I use to have a road bike. Had a Time carbon, loved it but It was just a huge money pit. Ended up selling that and started speed skating for a while. Mountain biking sucks down here in Florida unfortunately.

I have a shitty 400$ road bike and I love it. People complain that biking isn’t a good enough workout and it’s like yeah no shit you have a bike that costs as much as a used car, you’re just going to zoom around on that thing with no effort. I’m working up a sweat on flat ground AND saving money

It’s a great work out. No debate there. Especially down here in the 100 degree heat and 90% humidity. My homie actually got plowed into on a ride in front of me by a suv and it just didn’t sit well mentally with me so I took a break from riding. People down here don’t give a fuck about bikers on the road.

Yeah man I would not fuck around with a road bike in FL. Distracted/inattentive drivers are one thing, but intentionally malicious drivers are so scary I couldn't imagine trying to ride out there.

I finally got to ride a dirt bike! Wanted to since I was a little kid but never had the chance. Buddy is getting married in a few weeks and took us out to the mountains north of McCall to ride for the weekend on some legit backcountry roads/trails. They're so fun but holy fuck I would absolutely kill myself if I owned one, so much power, so easy for things to go wrong. But rallying uphill blasting through anything, letting the back wheel walk while the front just plows, damn it's so good

I think it's more likely that those people aren't pushing themselves hard enough. A nicer bike only gains you speed/ distance, but if you are pushing yourself you will be working just as hard on either bike. It's the same people that claim biking gets easier the more you do it. It doesn't get easier as long as you keep pushing yourself.

I purposely hit road bikers with my car in the name of enduro riders.

Edit: this is a joke. But they piss me off when they ride in the middle of the road and think road signs don't apply to them.

just like walking vs sprinting. I can ride a bike all day long at a slow pace or I can go fast and be burnt out in under an hour.

I love riding my bike. Being in a small town is good because lots of off-road trails to get to work. I hate the dickhead drivers that go as close as possible to you.

There are TONS of people on road bikes down here but literally accidents everyday. People just don’t pay attention at all.

what dirt bike were you riding. I’ve had 450’s most of my life.

Yeah I'm a very confident road rider and don't get spooked easily, but if I moved to Florida I would give up the roadie altogether.

Honda 250, just a rental bike. I'm not very big so this was as much bike as I'd feel comfortable on. Hit 70mph on the main forest road, hillclimbs around 25-30mph. Fucking wild compared to the mtb.

cities would be 1000x better if everyone just rode bikes. That not being the reality makes me hate riding in any city.

I studied abroad in Kyoto and there is a super heavy bike culture there, basically no bike lanes but everyone is just cruising around on bikes everywhere it was so chaotic in the best way

I always thought I was a really fast, aggressive driver until I dealt with other parents at school pick up/drop off. Funny seeing the transformation of the “baby on board” sticker parents morphing into “no fucks left to give” parents.

Just a month in my soul has been crushed, realizing it’s kind of pointless driving a racecar to school since 50% of traffic on the road at those times are the other school parents, if you drive fast or launch everyones gonna see and hate you so might as well just be a NPC and drive an electric car. But there’s a zipper merge near the school that everyone knows exists and are used to, so it’s kind of crazy seeing how many parents rage in the morning and bunch up to prevent a zipper merge, that’s a really bold strategy when you consider we’re all heading to the same parking lot…

see if you lived in the mountains and tried to be a life long ski bum you wouldn’t have this issue because you wouldn’t be able to afford a racecar or an electric car . . . or a kid lol

but i hear ya. fuck the poor. you dont wanna hear about that shit and neither do i. im trying to watch the sunset over the ridgeline from my hot tub on my patio listening to the river below without trying to think about the service workers struggling to make ends meet. i mean yeah they absolutely make this economy run and yeah without them the tourists would have a bad time and stop coming and my salary would disappear. but its so annoying to hear about their struggles amiright?!
