30 hours of community service for a speeding ticket?

I got assigned 30 hours of community service for my first time offense... I was going 85 in a 65, has anyone else on here had community service assigned for a speeding ticket? I personally think it is kind of ridiculous.

lucky? doing 30 hours for going 20 over is such bullshit. actually its absurdly ridiculous. im not sure what state you are from, but in new york its like 3 points on your license and a minor fine. i got a ticket going 83 in a 65 and i sent a non-guilty plea on the basis of a faulty radar gun and they completely dropped the case. i didn't even have to go to court. as the saying goes, sucks for your asthmar

if you got that instead of a fine youre lucky man be grateful! that would normally be a 200 dollar ticket

85 in a 65 isnt to bad in the sense you were going only 20 over but 85 is a pretty serious speed to get caught at...just be happy that you only have community service vs fine or poitns on ur license

I got a $185 fine for 69 in a 50. I knew the trooper so he knocked it down. There's also a possibility that I get out of it.

my cousin did 130 in a 55 down a back road on a streetbike and the cops chased him (which is illigal) and arrested him. 180 hours of community service and lost his license for 6 months. also had to do drivers ed over along with classes that added up to about $600. just dont fucking speed and you wont get in any trouble with the law, that simple

seriously if i had gotten comm service for my ticket when i was 17 going 85 in a 65 rather than a big fine id be fucking pumped

same for me. I was riding with my buddy and he blew a stop sign on a T intersection and tride to make the turn but ended up rolling down the hill on the other side we were both almost goners.

I ALWAYS wear my seat belt now and 5 over the limit is top speed for me.

Really speeding tickets are easy to avoid it isn't like the speed is a complete surprise to you, any roads with in a township are marked and if its unmarked typically it is 55.

I'd say the community service is way better than a speeding ticket fine. In Minnesota 20MPH over is 212$

thats a different kind of punishment.
maybe your county is rich and needs people to pickup trash?
where i live they would have surely raped your debit card for every last penny.

stupid drivers cause so many more crashes than speeders. yes speeding can be dangerous, but id say about 70% of speed limits in the us are bullshit, and speeding can be done safely, going 10-20 over on a 75mph highway with low traffic can be totally safe, but going 5 over through certain city streets and neighborhoods can be dangerous.

people not paying attention, texting, hogging the left lane on a highway, going below the speed limit, taking turns overly slow etc... are all way more dangerous than the average speeder going like 10 over.

i got caught going 25 over and took a safe driving class because it made my fine and points go way down. and it was cops who were teaching the class, and they even said that almost all the crashes they see are from people not paying attention, hogging the left lane, causing faster traffic to come up on them fast, or have to change lanes into the slower right lane, talking on their cell phones etc... they even said that they would rather see someone speeding and paying attention than someone going the speed limit but driving poor.

i swear if we just made our drivers test a little bit harder we would have soooo many less deaths. there are so many dumb fucks out there that are no where close to deserving a liscense. instead of a 5 minute cruise around a neighborhood make it a month long process of highway, city, and mountain driving, and teach car control both in the dry and wet and we would save thousands and thousands of lives. and then let people speed all they want.

Sucks for you, I got caught going 49 over and got a $145 ticket and 5 points on my license. Took a driving class and got 2 points taken away. So my insurance will only be fucked for the next 6 months.

The whole policing the speed on thew road is retarded. They should deal with reckless driving not speed. If the speed is reckless than yes.

On interstates, there is no reason not to be able to travel 80 or 90 mph.

Cops always talk about how brave they are risking their lives on the highway. How about you don't pull everyone over at the end of the month for money and your quta, and you wouldn't be standing there to get hit.

The money they get from tickets should go to a fund for something good, like victims of traffic accidents or something. Instead of back to the same cops that are giving the tickets.

Idk, it's just bullshit. I would fight any ticket. The system is so fucked up these days

ya man, fuck the police, fuck the coorporations, fuck my life, parents, fuck you man, ya fuck you, fucking bullshit is what it is, im gonna plee the umm 2nd amendment man, i fucking got rights, its because of bill that i have rights, the bill of rights dawg, fucking a, fucking govt taking my rights away, its bullshit, how dare they make me do something i dont want to do.

during the 1800's the majority of irish farmers didnt own their land, if they didnt produce the crops that the british was expecting then they were kicked out of ireland. suck your own dick.

seriously? not a big deal, id be happy with 30 hours instead of a 150 dollar ticket, think about it its an hour a day for a month, a friend of mine got his license suspended and a 100 dollar ticket for 77 in a 55

I dont know how much min. wage is where you are, but I have a pretty common job and get paid 9 an hour. 30 X 9 = 270. He got fucked. Even if he doesnt have a job thats retarded. Ask if you can just pay the fine

well 9 isnt the minimum wage. but if you put it that way yeah youre right. but id waaay rather do a bunch of community service rather than pay a huge fine

haha like i said i guess its opinion but id way rather never get those 30 hours back (think how many hours you waste per week) than pay 200 bucks (which you also definitely dont get back haha)

Or keep the $270, buy a nice jacket to wear while picking up trash for one hour everyday over a months time. I'll community service please

65 is the speed limit on most interstates. According to the law 20 plus anywhere pretty much is reckless driving. in actuality it's perfectly safe. Actual reckless driving should be penalized, and there is far to much of it out there. Those roads were built for 75-80

Sorry but your the dumbass.

Good luck to the op

if you dont even have a license then you are lucky, i got 80 hours for driving my moms car when i was 15, i did kinda fuck her car up on some snow banks but i also had tons of classes and probation for a year.

Quit whining like a bitch and be glad you weren't arrested for "street racing" cause just a couple more clicks above the speed limit and you would have been.

Grow up, I would have killed to get community service instead of a $450 ticket (I was going 19 over because I was too dumb to realize I was in a school zone). I learned my lesson the hard way, I had to work that off at a high schooler's wage of only $7 an hour. That's 64 hours I spent on that as well as the $450.

You're a child, I hope your parents ground you.

How is that lucky? 30 hours of work can EASILY give you over 200 dollars. I would rather take the fine any day.

Just be glad you are not under 18 in Massachusetts. If I get a ticket (I have gotten pulled over multiple times, but I have always only gotten a warning) then I lose my license for 6 months, and it costs about $1000 to get back.

The money does not include the increase on insurance either.

Being in a rollover is a big fuckin wake-up call. Seriously it is the scariest thing I have ever been through. I hope to god nobody has to experience one. Just be safe and reasonable.

youre telling me he would have been working a paying job all 30 of those hours if he didnt have to do this community service? i sort of doubt that
