this sucks man, pretty bad way to start this season off, they died of CO2 poisoning. hopefully this isnt a bad omen or anything, but i gotta send my condolences to the families

to elaborate on this kids thread. the girls were sleeping in their car, snow started to fall, blocked their exhaust pipe. got blocked. c02 needed somewhere to go so leaked through the exhaust system and into the car.

or with a window open; which kind of defeats the purpose of having the car on in the first place.... so listen to this dude

that is horrible. whenever you are doing something, think, what here could kill me?
for real tho- live with this mindset. when ur riding your bike, think, these ignorant drivers around me could make an illegal maneuver I don't suspect them to do, yet if they make it, it could be lights out!
wish the best to their families

shit man i didnt even know that could happen. well i did know about the co2 but i didnt think that snow could succesfully block an exhaust pipe. sleepin with the window open from now on.....

thats really really shitty man did you know any of them? this past summer i knew 3 kids who's dads died, it was the weirdest/most fucked up shit and ruined their summers...

prayers out to the families for sure

A LITTLE BIT OF CHEMISTRY.

to elaborate even more.

Car engines emit CARBON-MONOXIDE(CO:1 carbon molecule and 1 oxygen). This gas is deadly to humans because it's purpose is life is to becoming CARBON DIOXIDE(CO^2: 1 carbon, 2 oxygen. It does this by joining together with any single Oxygen molecule that it can find. So, when carbon monoxide is inhaled into our lungs, it grabs up all of the oxygen it can find and is exhaled as Carbon Dioxide. You then suffocate. because the carbon monoxide just sucked all of the oxygen from your blood and lunges.

spark notes: Carbon Monoxide sucks up the oxygen from our lunges and blood and then we suffocate.

yah but monoxide is what kills you from exhausts...
that's scary though, i slept in my car a couple times and i always crack my windows no matter how cold it is

This happened to a kid a 3 year old kid in Washington DC. His mom put him in the car and started it on the way to daycare. She went back into the house for a few minutes and he was already dead when she came back out. Really sad, so pay attention to what you guys are doing.

I heard about that. ^ ^

people also rig a tube from their exhaust into the interior of their car.

and commit suicide.

the carbon monoxide doesn't exactly "suffocate" you as in "remove the

AIR from you lunges. it removes the OXYGEN from your blood stream,

killing you instantly and painlessly.

To the chem master above, your close but not quite right. The hemoglobin in our blood which holds oxygens has a higher affinity for carbon monoxide (meaning blood grabs CO over O if it can) so when you breath in CO and some O your blood grabs the CO and sends that through your body and not the oxygen it needs.

fuck ++++++vibes but it's quite dumb to sleep with your car on...also a full grown person needs to be exposed to CO for a little while before dying, it's not like it's instantaneous like being shot

oh shittttt thats crazy, so many fucking deaths to skiers lately... damn, they were probably about to have an epic day too at squaw...RIP

They are not so sure anymore that it is painless. Its also not instant.

Just because you are paralyzed from the CO, doesnt mean you arent in excruciating pain. You are conscious, but unable to move, talk. Apparently an intense burning sensation is what it feels like as the cells die from suffocation.

Thats horrible, RIPseems like that could easily happen to anyone of us why were they sleeping with the car on tho?

That really sucks, your NEVER suppose to allow your car to run it snows (or any other risk of exhaust blocking) while your in it for extended periods of time.

Take note anyone who plans on roadtripping this winter.

+vibes, definitely something terrible for their families right before the holidays.

On a side note, cracking your windows won't help that much. CO is heavier than air, so if it is building in your car, it will start at the floorboards and work it's way up to top of the windows. Not good if you're laying asleep on the seats. That is why you put your CO detector in your house in a floor level outlet.

yeah i learned about this in drivers ed probably like everyone else but i remember that since there is quite a bit of people who die from it every year get tired shreding all day then getting tired going into the car turning it on to warm up falling asleep and not waking up

It seems like nowadays anything can kill ya, what a unfortunate way to die, but isn't a tail pipe hot though? I thought that shit would melt all the snow around it for sure

that is not correct at all. CO doesnt "suck up" any oxygen.

When you breathe, oxygen binds to the hemoglobin in your blood, and is returned as CO2, and released through your lungs as you breathe out. CO also bonds to the hemoglobin as you breathe in, but doesnt release, rendering the hemoglobin useless, and killing the oxygen transportation in your blood. It is poisoning, not suffocation. It is similar to taking a cyanide pill.

those poor girls, RIP.

Yea carbon monoxide would most likely the cause of death, but im wondering why the hot exhaust didnt melt the snow, car exhaust is at least 150-200 degrees.

dunno just a though, r.i.p thats really unfortunate

the CO reacts with the heamaglobin (iron) in you blood so it takes the oxygens place as well as reactiong with the O also it forms carbonic acid which is a poison.

just to clear that up

sorry about spelling

^fuck you

it would be a waste of battery and gas
but they probably just were trying to heat it up before sleeping and all fell asleep

i know that family.it was terrible, because they had other family coming over to stay in the same place and once the other family arrived they found them dead all in the same bed.
soo tragic.
