2L vs 3L Jackets and Pants

Looking at 2L and 3L bibs and can’t decide if there is a huge difference. Kinda leaning towards a 2L 15k/15k rating but not sure if I’m making the right choice. Anything helps!

Judging by your name you live in CO where getting 3L (unless you like touring in the spring when it could rain) is pointless. It’s super dry here. Even on some of our stromiest days (6inches) I can normally ski in a cotton hoody and it doesn’t even get wet. If you have a giant pile of cash sure go for it. Else I would save on outerwear and use it to buy more skis or literally anything else. 3L is great on the coasts but meh in CO

3L is for places that wetness is an issue. It’s just an extra membrane that is has pores small enough to keep water out but big enough to let sweat out. It’s a thing in places like PNW, East coast. Places where wetness is an issue

They both just have one membrane. 3L is face fabric-membrane-liner while 2L is face fabric-membrane. 2L is generally cheaper and heavier since they usually have insulation or mesh to prevent membrane contamination. Unless you’re concerned about weight and packability, the 2L will probably provide the most value.

Thanks for the amazing advice. Definitely will be going with the 2L after reading this.
