i cant get spin either way off of a rail i always just end up going 90 offwhat are some tips if any on getting them,

and which one is easier at first to learn

thanks

+K for help

scissor/grip the rail, digging your front toe in for blindside or front heel in for frontside, set your spin and pop off the rail. Don't try to spin to early or you will hit your tips/tails on the side of the rail keeping you from spinning all the way.

Also for frontside you can pretty much stair at your landing the whole way around. On a blindside let your head follow your body.

Sounds like a commitment issue. Keep your head looking past your shoulder until you get the full 270 rotation

i agree with what everyone said (scissor, lock on that edge and keep your body facing down the rail) but the way i learned them was to imagine just bringing your tips around on top of the rail to the other side. For a front 2 just think of bringing your tips over to the opposide side of the rail, and youll be doing them in no time

Everyone pretty much nailed it. Dig your front edge into the rail (scissor) and make sure to pop. Turn your head in the way you want to spin and your shoulders and skis should follow.

frontside is defenitly easier to do front 2 out for me, try and match the arch of your front foot with the clossest edge of the box/rail by lift fting up the front tip of that front ski. also looke at the edge you are trying to scisor whil getting on and aimc to slide slightly more towards the side you are getting onto of the box or rail

Dumb question but what does "dig your front edge into the rail" mean? I can't 270 out yet but I was wondering do you use your rear leg to push off the rail and spin you?

no, if you watch vids of people skiing rails, you see them put their front ski up on edge. This is to stabilize you/stop your rotation on the rail then you can pop and set your spin for the 270.

push the inside edge of your front ski into the rail by either dropping your toe or heel and providing some extra pressure. then pop and pull your shoulders and hips around

scissor the rail and your body will follow where youre looking. so look over your shoulder and ull spin.

i had this issue, i got my friend to demonstrate and it was just a case of me not committing! set the spin and commit!

good luck

You should try them off a really easy flat rail or something. It is much easier to try spins of rails then boxes because you can't grip boxes nearly as easy as you can grip rails. It's still hard for me to just strait up spin out of a box, I have to start spinning when I get on and carry the momentum. If you still have trouble, I guess it's just the commitment you need. Hope this helped.
