27 Science Fictions that became facts in 2012

That one link could trump every single thing posted in the "Mind=blown" thread

It's so damn hard to pick just one as the most important..but how fucking cool would it be to see the face on some blind guy that can now use his eyes? amazing

Fuck science is insane. The 3D printer thing is nuts too, imagine having a 3D image of a gun, printing it, then shooting it.

This has been done. The gun failed after something like three or four shots. The technology is not perfect yet. I imagine it will get there though. Amazing.

This has actually been worked on, as far as I know the gun didn't hold up, but I may be wrong as I havent heard of anything in while.

for real though...this shit blows my fucking mind. advances in technology are getting CRAZY. i can't even begin to fathom where we're going to be in another 20 years. thank god though as I'm going to need a new liver at some point, so hopefully they'll be able to grow me a new one by the time that comes around.

that whole 4 stars thing is kind of hard for my brain to fully comprehend. Gotta love space.

I love how south park made episodes about most of those thingsjames cameron or the stem cells

she can't move and can't exercise...

pair the NASA exoskeleton with the mind control robot and you've got yourself a winner i think.

brb gonna go get one of those Quantum Stealth invisibility cloaks and camp out in the girls locker room.

I love science fiction. Been a big fan of some of the big sci fi authors for a while.

If you haven't yet, watch prophets of science fiction. Ridiculously cool series if you're into any of them.

Crazy reading books that were made 50+ years ago that have detailed descriptions of shit we have today. And to some people it's like oh sure whatever. The fact that nothing even close to this shit existed and they just dreamed it up is fucking wild.

I never want to drive a driverless car though. But they've been going in that direction for a while. Cars that sense danger and stop and all that shit.

Eventually privacy is going to be a thing of the past but fuck it, there's no turning back and it's very interesting to see all this stuff happen.

The rate of progression is wild. In 50 years it's going to be fucking unreal the technology that we'll have, if we haven't blown ourselves up by then

I've always looked at it this way: We, humans, come up with science fiction (be it an individual or group effort). Essentially, all science fiction is in the end is what we want science to become. It is that same brain(s) that is also inventing modern day science.

With that mentality, it would seam very natural for future science to follow very closely to the same lines as modern science fiction. All we have is our imagination when creating, so there is no logical reason why science fiction shouldn't be predicting the future in science.

those were all really impressive. I'm very skeptical about a few of them, like #5. And the James Cameron one is of no consequence and shouldn't be in that list. That exact thing was done decades ago.

the driverless car thing isn't big news actually. i remember reading an article around 5 years ago about driverless cars. they had the technology years ago and still do now to make every car in the world into driverless cars. the cars would communicate with one another, and would travel nearly 200 miles per hour in order to increase efficiency. the reason this technology has not surfaced to the public is because

1. it would be impossible to get everyone to switch to driverless cars at the same time

2. the public would not enjoy missing other cars by mere inches while going 200 miles per hour

3. it would cost a lot of money

also, thank god for stem cells. i'm hoping by the time i'm older, stem cell research is more advanced and legal, and i'll be able to live till i'm like 200, beat cancer and other diseases, or even grow back limbs and shit.

that robot thing was creepy as fuck though... the way it climbed those stairs and marched on made me think of soldiers instantly. imagine 20 years from now shit like that being heli-dropped into war zones, communicating with one another to launch tactical assaults, and carrying out dangerous missions on the front lines with 0 human lives at risk. crazy shit right there imagining those things storming into a bunker, no fear, no emotions, nothing to lose. fuck.
