So you're just going to run away? where to? what happens when you're faced with violence and injustice elsewhere?

99% of this has nothing to do with discrimination, healthcare isnt free in this country, if you dont pay for comprehensive care you dont get it. AIDS? HIV dont discriminate... i could go on

i child education, i dunno when the last time you went to school was, but black kids think its cool to fail. i guess the school system is racist against non asians if were to base this on standardized tests.

prisoners, hell, why even bring em up? noone forced them to commit crimes, stay outta trouble and you wont have problems.

I think you'd be better off making assumptions based off these correlations than saying that there isn't any discrimination these cases don't mean anything.

people arent entitled to regular healthcare, people arent entitled to anything.

economics in a capitalist society arent racist.

why are you trying to find fault? its clear that an african american who has worked hard and gotten an education and has health insurance and wants to go to the doctor regularly will get better healthcare than a white high school dropout using illegal drugs

these figures, which really arent very good statistical data anyway dont immediately say the healthcare system is discriminatory.
 
MLK was certainly involved in a great work and he was in no doubt a great man.

With that said I don't agree with all of his ideals. We shouldn't have an overriding loyalty to mankind, one should only be loyal to those he/she know and love and one should only love those he/she truly care about. We should have strong faith and loyalty in our communities. We should be "resource-oriented" society with a clear view of the relationship between all living creatures and their environment. Fuck this world wide shit, you have to build from the ground up not from the top down.

Regardless, he was a great man. I may disagree with some of his more radical ideas, but what he did for the civil right movement was paramount to its achievement, and for that he deserves a great deal of respect.

i don't know where you came up with the idea that we're not entitled to anything, because that's just not true. these are unalienable entitlements.

the truth of the matter is that there are still systemic obstacles that means there is a statistically significant difference between a white man's chance at becoming educated, having a job, and getting health care than a black man or a hispanic.

The Constitution actually doesn't say ANYWHERE that you as a person are entitled to healthcare, education, or anything else other than the chance to do something with your life.
 
The federal government is giving away scholarships, grants, and financial aid like candy to minorities. All you have to do is have a HS diploma. It's their own god damn fault they are poor and have no health care, they didn't go to school, which is literally handed to them.

"pursuit of happiness" its not the right to any particular object. its the right to go out and ATTAIN said object or service.

right to life simply states that I cannot deprive you of your right to life by murdering you. same goes for your relationship with me.

Please, point it out to me. The EXACT Article in the Constitution that states we are all entitled to college educations and healthcare. Please, show me. Now.

Answer my fucking question rather than avoiding it.

Last I checked the Constitution just lays down how the federal Gov't is supposed to go about business and the inherent rights wer are guaranteed which are outlined in the Bill of Rights.

And as the Declaration said we are guaranteed the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" though the pursuit of happiness part was originally property but got changed prior to the signing. Yes the Declaration says we are entitle to life. But all that means is we are given a chance to actually live without some nutters coming over the hill to kill us just cause they feel like it.

There is nothing mentioned in EITHER document or in the Bill of Rights that we are entitled to healthcare or education. So it isn't a matter of interpretation and actually is a black and white I'm right and you're wrong argument.

I would also like to point out that i was being a smart ass, simply because i was being a smart ass with my pro bono snow removal comment. i was hopping that would get picked up on. but text isnt always the greatest medium for communication.

im not exactly sure what we are arguing? unless you were talking about when i made the blunder of placing the Constitution in the declaration of independences' place.

i know we've gone down the road before on what the "rights" of man are. i also know that neither of us are going to be able to change the others mind. so ill leave you with the short version. a man cannot claim the product of another mans work his by "right". i dont know how to make it any simpler than that.

yes that includes letting people die in the gutter from starvation, and dieing from lack of medical care.

do i advocate letting this things happen? hell no. do i advocate keeping choice involved? (on the helping end) absolutely.
 
That's the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. Why does that mean we shouldn't celebrate the life of a man who was the main person behind the civil rights movement? Because of mlk things are the way they are today and we should definitely celebrate his life.

you asked what the solution to racism is -- his answer is not valuing your property more than a person.

it's not square in the mark of racism per se, but in the spirit of health care; if you're going to defend the insurance company that wants to make a profit by saying you're not sick when you are, how do respect that 'right' while actually doing something to keep people healthy?

 
I'm not sure why you think that the 1 black president and 1 mexican supreme court judge (who's appointed, not elected) is sufficient to claim there is no more racial divide.

  • out of the hundreds of state Governors in our history, 4 have been black
  • out of the 2,000 or so men & women who've served in the senate over the past 222 years 6 have been black
  • in the 112th there are 0 black senators.

when black candidates run in an election, they generally find it near impossible to win the majority of the white vote; Obama did in 2004 during his senate campaign, but he was running against the republican Alan Keyes who's also black -- the only such contest in American history.

in 2008 Obama only carried 43% of the white vote.

perhaps you need to reconsider exactly where we are in terms of "postracial politics"

is it possible there hasn't been a qualified minority candidate? sure -- anything's possible; but what's probable is that there have been plenty of qualified individuals who happened to be black.

"white people aren't required to vote for black people." Why imply or think that i'm saying that you have to vote for the black candidate just because he/she's black? I'm saying you vote for the most qualified person regardless of their skin color.

If for a second we just assume that you're right in saying that over the past 222 years there hasn't been hardly any qualified black candidates, then the question is why aren't they qualified. Again, you have to answer this with what's probable not merely possible... and come to the conclusion that it's probably a systemic flaw not a character flaw.

i disagree with MLK on some of this (if you hadn't noticed by now :)

my wishing to hold onto the property i OWN has nothing to do with race. is he suggesting that white people in the gutter are more likely to receive help than black people? my decision to help or not help has nothing to do with race. keep in mind this is me talking in 2011 and not say 1950s america.

in todays marketplace what is the incentive to act racist? in a pure capitalistic market based economy, race plays no part in who gets hired or fired. (again 2011)

so if we must value our fellow man more than our possessions. how do we convince the populous of this?
