24/25 Gear hype thread!

90% of people touring don’t truly need a fully moving upper cuff, the only time that cuff comes into play is on flat ground while touring which is pretty much never.

I take it that you do not tour ;)

By all means, the setup makes sense for sidehilling or (very) short tours to reach above lift accessed terrain / where your sled can take you. That being said, you need to be an absolute nihilist / glutton for punishment to take a regular alpine boot with tech bindings out for a big day touring instead of a beefy 1900gr 50/50 boot - regardless of how gnarly the line you are about to ski is. Beefy touring boots ski pretty damned well.

[tag=154780]@tomPietrowski[/tag] correct me if I’m wrong or missing a thought but It completely makes sense, 90% of people touring don’t truly need a fully moving upper cuff, the only time that cuff comes into play is on flat ground while touring which is pretty much never. So it actually makes a ton of sense to have a tech toe and bomber downhill shell to get the best of both worlds.

Have you ever toured?)

Also, the new 116 QST X is just a remake of the QST 118.

It's not a QST 118 at all, way different radius numbers and flex.

The Reckoner 124 also is definitely not a catamaran either, not asym tip/tail and different construction entirely.

What you smokin bruh?

Only talking about rockerprofile

they did just that prior to this season. There is also a rumor that ATK is to release some new harder charging tech binding, though no info is know thus far. Time will tell eh

Totally missed that, thanks! Need to test that.. They are terrible at marketing and all but that could be one of the best bindings in the segment..

Pretty sure it’s unchanged maybe a few small tweaks

Longer rocker lines and stiffer.

More tail rocker and less hooky back there.

Should be some reviews soon. They have had a couple events now.

Y'all gear testers, when will you get your hands on the bent 100?

SkiEssentials made a video on it:

It is kinda interesting that something that some of the short comings of the previous version was never mentioned in their videos of those iterations, but are described as being fixed / longer an issue in the new ones. So kinda useful to keep that in mind when watching their videos -> the are trying to push gear first, push info/positives second and provide more balanced reviews a kinda distant third. Oh well, I still enjoy their vids and appreciate the effort.

They said that the tail feels looser. Bam.

Armada are finally making a ski for Kimbo! Really excited to see how that turns out.

Black Crows changing/refreshing the Corvus is also going to be interesting too I think.

I've been skiing the new Salomon ski a bunch over the past few days, say what you want about the tip-shape, it's definitely something different and something fun. And it bears 0 similarity to the ski you're all bitching about it looking like. Do I love the graphic, not really but it's striking and definitely pops way better in person. The ski, however... I think it's going to be a very popular one ski quiver. I'm waiting to get it into some softer snow and shoot some photos but we have a review coming...

In other news, Scott has a whole new line of all-mountain freestyle twins now, called SEA. There's an 88, 98, 108 and 116. They have pretty interesting shapes, another company getting back into the game is always cool to see too.

Loveland demo today/tomorrow, I'll be sure to let you guys know what we think, so many new skis to try for next year.

Powder7 just put out a video on the K2 line.

The Reckoner 124 gets way more rocker and splay in the tail, but also more camber.

Alot better then the last gen, but not "hellbent" enough for my taste. It looks exactly like the K2 catamaran. So were just back to that.

Those look THICCCC

I don't get that trend. How does it make sense? What is their intended usage?

Think of areas like whistler where you may skin for 30-45 min to hit a big zone or maybe a BC quicker. For that type of skiing there is nothing better than a fixed cuff boot so making a small skin in a fixed cuff boot is worth it compared to trying to boot pack out there

This is definitely not true on the east coast and there are plenty of people who tour here. After getting a boot with walk mode, I will absolutely never go back. I’m glad my resort boots have a fixed cuff but touring without walk mode sucks ass when you’re going over rolling forested terrain…not everyone is doing switchbacks up an alpine face

I think what confuses people is the word tour. If you are going out to tour for a few hours up to ski something cool but not insane yeah you dont want a boot like this it makes no sense. Get a walk mode and enjoy the ease of use.

But if you BC kicker is a 30min skin out of resort then a boot like this makes total sense. You want a no compromise boot for the kicker and short little access skins a boot like this is fine.

People get stuck thinking all touring is 4-5 hours when for a lot of people these days it is 30min or less to get to rad terrain. Think enduro bike vs xc

Can someone answer where is this boot sits compared to the others in the lineup. Like is it the same shell as the pro model just with a unique graphic?

The KF is basically the soul shell with a 120 tongue and the wrap liner. So its like the team boots we had but I decided to change the tongue liner to wrap as that is what Karl prefers and also it just is more in line with what these boots are. Wrap liners feel great in them so lets just offer our stiffest fixed cuff boot with the wrap again.

Hyped for these. Am I incorrect thinking FT made a 130 tongue at some point? I thought the 120 was akin to the old #10?

[tag=154780]@tomPietrowski[/tag] is there any news about 3 piece low volume boot with walk mode?

Still in development I’m afraid. Don’t know if you heard but boa are in ski boots now and that shook up development just a little :)

BRUH. Ft with walk mode AND boa. Can't forget the k2 branding.

It’s not exactly the same according to this pic on EVO, but yeah I see how they’re more similar than the others.

I think they did the same thing as the last couple years where they cut the top sheets out of a larger single painting/image that Chris does

A bit of a weird move to share the topsheet graphic between the 90 and the 100 imo
