Don't think it's a repost, but Red Bull and one of their athletes is at it again... this shit is nuts!

So i kinda just skimmed through that video... whats the big deal? some dude did this in the fucking 60s and now red bull wants to do it again? fuck that shit.

they will break all his records, be the first human to fall and break speed of sound. And the guy who did it in the 60s is working closely with them.

How does red bull afford to do this shit? Honestly all of that coordination and stuff has got to be expensive...

Still seems a bit un-legit. the footage of that dude jumping out of that thing back in the 60s is fucking legendary. its basically been done, and was fucking awesome... but doing it again would turn it into more of a novelty.

well, is that possible to hit the speed of sound? i mean at 23 miles above the earths surface, maybe you could hit 768 mph but as you get closer and closer to the earth, you won't be able to.

so lets say, at 23 miles, there was a small enough amount of friction to be able to hit the speed of sound, but at 20 miles, there was just over the amount of friction needed to hit the speed of sound. so he would have 3 miles to hit 768 mph. but then, there is much less gravitational pull up at 23 miles, so therefor it would be even harder to hit 768 mph because you wouldnt be pulled down as hard.

im sure they have all the real math behind this and figured out that its possible, i just think its kinda crazy

what if he lights on fire on reentry?!?! hehe

not to mention having to slow from 768 down to appx 120 mph (speed at which most skydivers pull the cord) would be quite a task too. You really cant pull the cord any faster, otherwise the suit just rips through your body

but that's more than terminal velocity at sea level and he'll have plenty of time to slow down.

The footage/pictures from when kittinger did it is amazing, it looks like he's on the edge of space. Its def something I would like to do

From all the 12 year olds that drink 4 cans of redbull per day and wonder why they have heart problems

they use multiple chutes, that can deploy at various speed, and progressively slow him down. It's not just 1 chute pull, as that would probably kill him anyways.

at least i believe thats how they did it last time...

i was reading about the kittinger sky dive this week actually. He said when he stepped off the balloon it didnt even feel like he was falling, it felt like he was floating because there was no wind rushing by or sounds. he only had to use one parachute because once you get closer to the earth's surface your terminal velocity goes down to around 120 mph, the speed most skydivers reach. its some pretty cool stuff. cant wait to see this go down. I think its pretty cool that redbull is sponsoring something like this. Who would have thought a beverage company would fund what is basically a science experiment? its got to be so expensive.

Kittinger was way more hardcore because:

a) it hadn't been done before

b) he was testing stuff

c) it was the 60's

Kitinger's jump will forever be epic beyond epicness. The only thing im looking forward to from the new jump is the footage they capture.. But they should just leave that jump to be Kitinger's alone - it was too much of a badass accomplishment.

Why all the hate? They made a freaking space suit! NASA even stepped in because what Redbull was doing was so ground breaking. A man is going to break the sound barrier, that's pretty bad ass.

Word. A lot of hate for a guy attempting to break records and who is willing to jump out of a ballon at 23 miles above the earth's surface. Whether its been done or not, you got to have some pretty good sized plums to want to be willing to do that.

After a bunch of delays it looks like he is supposed to do it tomorrow morning.

It will be streamed live on youtube and redbull.com
