21/22 gear hype thread

We skied some 2022 skis today, and we're getting ready to publish our annual Gear Preview article.

Are there any requests for info or pics of anything in particular?

your writeups are usually very good, highlighting what actually has changed on what models, and what new models there are.

m-free 99 or whatever the dynastar menace 98 replcement will be has interest here, as does 110 black ops or whatever stupid they named it.

I lied, I skied a 179! Rep said sizing is 171, 179, 185. 128-99-120 is the side cut!

Thanks for getting me that info! Glad to hear they have a 185cm.

I will forgive in time for your lies........haha

Looks like Matt has been working up something interesting.

I don't know what is going on with that liner but I need the strap to replace the garbage one that comes on this year's Hawx ultra xtd 120. I'm guessing there's some elasticity in the two? bands with lettering?

One band is elastic and the other is adjustable. I'm very happy with this upgrade. Additionally, IMHO build quality is much better than Booster strap.

This is not the new version with the elasticity, I believe.

They are talking about it in the newest Blister Gear 30 episode:

This is going to be pretty cool, I hope you guys like it (just did a podcast with Blister that goes into deep detail). But we are making a new Hawx Ultra that is 25% more stable than its predecessor and creating a new "S-Works" level that we call the Professional Series- a no-holds-barred approach to building a ski boot with the best possible shell materials, best possible liner construction, and best possible power strap. There are Redster, Hawx Ultra, and Hawx Prime versions of complete boots.

The liner is our new Mimic Professional which combines heat moldable Mimic technology with our Redster foam injection technology that is used on the World Cup. The liner is heated in a Memory Fit oven so the Mimic technology will soften and mold to your body & shell and the liner is then foamed while warm to create the ideal next-to-foot fit. Everything hardens and cools together for the ideal interface to the boot. Liners are available aftermarket for Redster TI-STI-CS, Hawx Ultra, and Hawx Prime.

The power strap is our new Professional Dual Strap which combines elastic materials into our patented Dual Strap construction. The top half sits directly on the liner tongue and the lower half sits directly on the cuff. The strap can be adjusted to be as elastic/dynamic as you want or as direct/static as you want, and anywhere in between.

cool, going to replace my 5-6 years old prime 130 then for 2022, any idea if they ship this year? I know my local store was getting more atomic stuff from austria? I belive it was shipping from

allready grabbed the 2021 hawx prime xtd 130, and I understood that carries over to 2022, but focus is on regular alpine boots now?

Saw Jonnie at targhee today, those skis are not the final shape, right now they look kinda like twin tip blades with big square tips and tails, he said he really wants them to have rounded tips and tails like the visions. Said they are a heavier comp style ski to replace the sickday series.

This makes me hyped, any idea what msrp is on the pro series boots as total and the liner by itself as an upgrade? Is the hawx ultra pro shell heavier than the standard hawx ultra from this season?

You might see somethings floating around now, but COVID restrictions are basically ensuring a Fall '21 delivery only.

The new Hawx Ultra is the only fully new project for 21/22, but you will see updates to Redster Club Sports and regular Mimic liners coming down to lower price points and other fit options in our range.

You can put a Mimic Professional into an XTD boot though- that would make a killer upgrade for resort days.

Complete boots will go for $850, Mimic Professional liners are $300, and Professional Dual Straps are $80

The new Hawx Ultra is about 100g heavier than the current version, with about 70% of that going into the shell and the rest into the cuff.

Excited for an updated club sport, not that the current has any issues but I have had my eye on that boot for my tiny paper thin foot haha

so mostly updates to narrow boots? I usually have no chance with my feet for a 98mm boot, and only updates to the 98mm versions? honestly atomic names might be super simple for some, but im always confused.

took a buddy for bootfitting yesterday, he ended up in a 26/26.5 magna 110 ( now I learned about that series ) ;)

I've never seen so wide and short feet :o dude is built like a brick and not very tall.

Blister will be reviewing it this year. It's basically the Santa Cruz v10 of ski boots- ultimate plow machine. The mold is unchanged but it gets a new Mimic World Cup liner and there is also a Professional version.

Ultra = 98

Prime = 100

Magna = 102

combine it with "XTD" (extended) and you get the same fit & geometry with backcountry features.

Updates to Hawx Prime: new 130 Professional, Mimic technology comes down to the Gold level liners

Updates to Hawx Magna: stiffer 130, Mimic technology in Platinum and Gold liners

Hawx Ultra XTD carries over (no changes)

Hawx Prime XTD: 130 & 115W carries over, all other flexes get updates/tech inserts

Shops need a sub $850 foam injected liner package like they need a $50 custom footbed...

...time to make skiing profitable again.

I totally agree with you, especially with old school foam liners that take 45-60 minutes to do and had a high failure rate. This one will take you 20 minutes, including heating time.

In the time it will take you to bake and fit an Intuition liner, you can do a Mimic Professional liner.

So how many litres of foam can one pump into the heel pocket in the Ultra? I have a seriously low volume heel/ankle.

Wait where do you live that shops only charge 50 beans for a custom footbed?? They take so much knowledge and time to do correctly that I’ve never heard of a shop charging less than $150.

Not sure of the volume, but it won't be measured in liters ;)

Granted you are in the right size and shape shell to start, you won't have any issues being locked in.

I wish other companies made foam-injected liners readily available for their plug boots. I know Dalbello used to (maybe still does?) ship their top of the line, WC, 92mm last, boots with them but AFAIK no one else does. I assume most companies produce them but I could be wrong.

On an unrelated note, do WC racers use heated socks? I was talking with a fellow coach today who was rocking his plug boots despite the fact we were just having athletes run gates today in -5 degree weather and swore that heated socks kept his toes warm.

I managed to get some nasty frostbite back during my academy days so plugboots+standing around=no go, but I have to assume WC racers have gotten frostbite but somehow manage to keep their toes warm.

I was under the assumption the one posted in the picture on the last page was a new one, not the one on their website now. Thought that was available online. If it’s not available online I’m sure you can order one through your local shop.

Most brands have foam injected liners for their race boots, but you usually don't see them anywhere outside of race shops. Mimic Professional will be unique in that we have the race side covered as well as our key all mountain boots, Ultra & Prime.

During training, racers will use heaters of some sort and also boot gloves (we make a specific "Boot Blanket" for the Redster boots that stays locked in place and you can access the buckles) but during the race they won't.

Any plans for an injected touring liner? I know Surefoot has one.

Also, any chance of the professional dual strap coming stock on the xtd?

New professional series looks rad! Some very cool stuff going on there. But how the hell are you selling all that for $850!

Shops love making less money for custom boot work. Can’t tell you how often I hear owners say they wish they could make less money :)

Sounds really, consider me intrigued.

Did I understand correctly that next years Prime Professional is the exact same boot as this years Hawx Prime 130S with a different color way?

So I could buy this years boot, and add the liner as well as strap later when available and if needed?

Also, how is the warmth in the foam injected liner? From the blister podcast I understood that the injected foam is softer than a "standard" foam? Does that mean easier on-off as well as better circulation?

I bet world cup racers have practice boots and race boots. Actually in typing that, that sounds stupid as fuck but it's crazy enough sport. They have three skis for one discipline.
