2020 CT 1.0s, are they a good buy for my situation?

Hey all, I'm a former east coast rider (Mount Snow), but just moved to SoCal. I'm really excited to try Big Bear and Snow Summit, but need new skis. This is my first time buying new skis, been riding these small boys for 8 years: https://www.evo.com/outlet/skis/rossignol-scratch-pro-boys

I'm 5'8, 145, looking to try out a ski thats actually as taller or taller than me.

I'm really looking to get into park, mainly jibs. I'm starting park a little late (21) even though I've been doing all mountain for a bunch of years and would consider myself to be a higher skill level at it. Taught myself railslide, shifty, 1, 3, and basic grabs though so I'm not a total beginner now. I still want to be able to ski most terrain, love side hits, but mainly want to spend most of my time in the park.

I've loved the look of the CT 1.0 since I saw AHall riding em in a video I can't remember. They're a very different ski from what I've been riding, but I really want to try something new. I found an awesome deal on the 182s and I wanted to know if they would be good for my situation or if I'd be screwing myself over and should get something else. Would also love to just hear what people who've ridden them think of these, all the internet reviews are on the 2.0s.

Thanks for reading my essay

If you’re looking for something for just park the 1.0 is alright, although the 2.0 is the Candide I see most guys on in the park. Something to keep in mind is factions are notorious for breaking, especially the candide line. Fortunately faction is amazing about replacing them, just prepare to go through a few pairs if you’re skiing rails

If your skiing only park the 1.0 would be dope, if your going for a one ski quiver vibe I would check out the candide or prodigy 2.0, more versatile for all types of terrain

Dope thanks for the heads up! I'm planning on buying from a ski shop online and I'll be calling the store before I make the order. Do you know if the warranty is valid even if I'm not buying directly from Faction? And I guess I have no issue taking park skis to the mountain, but since I had all-mountain skis I don't really know what that'll be like. My current skis are pretty damn beat up but they still felt fine enough, given that I was basically skiing on ice.

I think it works pretty well through shops, the 1.0 is gonna be more of a traditional park ski, whereas the 2.0 is softer(quite soft), and more rockered. I’ve heard better things about the prodigy line

I've had a pair of CT 1.0s for a few years now and they've held up pretty well but I'm not slamming them into rails constantly. The people I know who have ridden the 2.0s all had durability issues but loved the skis for the days they got out of them. For about a year or so I used my 1.0s for everything from park to powder and though fun, I wouldn't recommend it. The Prodigy line is definitely worth a look based on your interests.

I have owned two pairs of candides in the last season. The first of which was CT 1.0 and next was the CT 2.0. Despite what A Hall and the faction team (candide) may make it look like, these skis are terrible in terms of durability. Within a few weeks both pairs had extensive topsheet damage. I actually received the CT 2.0s as warranty - faction are very helpful with warranties in the case of defects such as complete edge delam. However, note that on the 2.0s i saw far more edge cracks on the skis from rail use. If you want a jibby ski and are focusing on rails, I would recommend the 1.0s as they have a thicker (2.5mm vs 2.2mm on the CT 2.0) edges. Still to avoid edge cracks i'd detune pretty heavily. I talked to a faction rep and they said that the topsheet and edge delam issues in the CT line are supposedly going to be fixed for the 2021 models but who knows if that will hold up. Just another note - Faction will not warranty their skis if the damage is clearly due to rail damage but if it is anything out of the ordinary (edge delam, massive topsheet damage, etc) then they will be super helpful. Im aware of many cases where people have warrantied a few pairs of factions from only buying the first. In terms of skiing, the 1.0s are pretty fun to carve and obviously good in the park. The 2.0s are really jibby and fun but at 133ish mm in the tips and tails I found them to be a bit hooky in anything other than perfect conditions. Hope this helps a bit :)

Other than being a couple inches taller than you I’m in the same scenario. Just started skiing park in the last year or two and I have a pair of CT 1.0s and they’re my favorite ski I’ve ever skied. Seriously capable in just about every condition other than pure sheet ice and bottomless powder. Super fun, light, stable but still poppy and soft enough to butter. I’m 5’11 and ride a 182 so if you’re looking to ski mostly park I’d size down, but if it’s your only ski you can definitely get away with it.

I highly doubt that. They will be made at scott/firscher ukraine factory. I skied both scott and fischer skis made there and quility was so-so. But anyway, better then now, when some guys are reporting delams after couple of hours
