Thoughts on wilsons hit/suspension?

I’m a Pens fan so this might be biased but I’d say it was warranted. Someone doesn’t break their jaw without direct contact to the head. He knocked a young player out of his first playoffs with a hit that the NHL doesn’t want in the league.

I don’t actually hate Wilson either like most Pens fan. I get his style of play. He works hard and brings a ton of energy to his team. He also floats the edge and this is one time where he went to far.

Holtby is again the Caps best player and has really shifted the series in their favor. I would love to see the Pens force a game 7 and win in front of a pissed off Washington crowd.

vegas is now 8 wins away from a cup, what the fuck are we living in the twilight zone or something?

I am now a Vegas fan thanks to Washington. Fleury! Fleury! Fleury!

I was rooting for Bruins/Sharks, now my dreams are broken and my bracket is fucked. I think I'll root Caps now because (a) fuck the Lightning and (b) I feel like they're still trying to shrug off the curse.

Caps are now 1 win away from the cup.

Thank FUCK for that. I might be the only one who is truly anti-Vegas, and it has nothing to do with them beating my team in the 2nd round.

Has everything to do with the fact that their fans have never had to deal with the frustration, the excuses, the pain, and the self-pity that comes with being a hockey fan.

and the fact that they honestly shouldn't even really have a hockey team... Just give it like 6 years when the team is at a real lacking for player development, and the honeymoon has worn off. Phoenix Coyotes #2

My hopes is that they go down in 5 or 6, and come back next year, completely back down to earth, not posting the same sort of numbers again, and everyone in Vegas has to realize it's not all sprinkles and rainbows after all.

As for the Caps? Fuck off, Pens fans. Ovechkin's name deserves to be on that chalice. Dude is a legend.

I'm with you, I'm totally anti-Vegas. QC deserved that team so so so much more. Fuck putting teams in places where you can't even play the sport outside. Once they go through a 5 year rebuild without seeing the playoffs they'll loose all their fans in the blink of an eye.

Don't agree with Ovechkin. Fantastic hockey player, but I like to watch Russians loose. Don't like Russians and their lies.

Yeah, I mean, the west does need another couple teams, no doubt, but they shouldn't be in Vegas, necessarily... Seattle will probably be getting the next team here soon, but I'd have worked to get a team in PDX as well rather than Vegas.

It's worked out well so far there, but I have my doubts on the future. Placing judgement after one good season is silly. Every new team is ultra hyped. I mean, Tampa Bay was selling out their indoor baseball stadium of like 38000 people for hockey until they built their downtown arena.. I don't think they could sell that stadium out today even with Steven Stamkos on that team.

It's not like an Arena on the strip is "downtown" or something like you'll see in other cities like D.C. or San Jose or the aformentioned St. Petersburg, FL. Seeing as Vegas doesn't exactly have the same kinda structure as other cities. Hell, the whole place is so spread out with tract homes, I'm surprised anyone even knows who their neighbours are. I could see them having the same arena problems as Ottawa within a few years.

Those unfamiliar with Vegas - Nobody really lives down by the strip. It's actually closer to the suburbs of Paradise and Spring Valley than proper downtown Las Vegas... Casino's originally built down there because the land was cheaper... and it was cheaper because it was nowhere near anything. That's the reason why UNLV was given a land grant for the school way out there, and why they built the Airport there.

Hell... the Strip isn't even within the city limits of Las Vegas! It's all in Paradise, NV!

solid thread! I know its 3-1 but you never know; vegas is a great team and the Caps are notorious for choking. All i'm saying that its not over yet.

This was the most gladiator-like cup lift since Chara's:

Dude that was some real emotional stuff at the end there when Ovie couldn't even talk during the post game interview, ovie almost crying as he dedicated the win to his dad with alzheimrs, Backstrom and Ovie skating around with the cup. And seeing holtby lift it too after playing his fucking balls off all series long was great.

Grats, DC fans.

*Oshie almost crying, and Happy oshie finally got a cup too! The dudes a fucking stud.

Pens fans must be irate that tom wilson won the cup too lol

I'm super stoked for Caps fans. I feel like they are the Sharks of the east for at least the last decade... It has to have been so frustrating for so long.

And as for Vegas... good news! now you get to wallow in self pity all summer long with what could have been!

Also, very glad Caps won it in 5. Vegas only got to 13 wins. Pitiful. That's only 1 game further than the Florida Panthers have gone.. You suck, Vegas.

Who else is hoping that team gets absolutely annihilated by free agency and comes back a total shell of it's former self when their players all regress back to the mean harder than a brick dropped from a 42nd story window hitting pavement. I SURE DO.

as an islander fan - fuck tavares.

as an outsider, cant really fault him for getting out of there though in a way. Understandable he left you all with a bad taste but it was really management that dropped that ball massively. Can't give him so many empty promises with a rebuild thats been taking years during his prime with an uncertain future. They really only had like one decent playoff run with him, ya know?

Poor sens fans, though. Brutal situation. You go from being literally one goal away from the cup finals the season before to an epic collapse the next season due to soo many shitty factors, a few of them being insane off-ice drama and dipshit management. Karlssons definitely gone and the Hoffman trade was kind of rediculous. San Jose didnt want that shit so they send him down to the Panthers.

Yea it's a tough time being a sens fan. The best solution is to literally start from scratch. New owner, new GM, new coaching staff, and trade pretty much all the players and do a total rebuild. Like anything that could go wrong with a sports team went wrong.

As for Tavares, I'm happy for him. He's still fairly young and has a ton of good seasons left and gets to go play on his childhood team with a super promising group of young players. He was for sure held back playing for NY, and if he has good chemistry with Marner he'll be getting 100+ points a season

Yea I mean you are right. They almost beat the Caps in game 7 of the second round. But TBH they've gotten some pieces this year. Lou Lamoriello has is a great rebuilder as he has shown with the devils and the leafs. Barry Trotz just won with the Caps and is a respected headcoach. Lehner is a much better goaltender than Halak and Greiss (imo). They got Matty Marts back who is a charismatic and hard player.

They've picked up a lot of younger talented players that will look good in the future years.

I hear you, Leafs have the team put together to win now, not in 3 years. I'm excited to see what the isles do over the next couple of years.

Sens had some powerful players with Hoffman, STone, Smith. Pageaue was a good player, Dzingel. Now they've lost Hoffman, Duchene had a great year with CO.

need October!

Karlsson traded for garbage. That has to be the biggest fuck up in Ottawa trade history. Oh yay, a 1st round pick. Sucks it's going to be 25th+ since you just gave the Sharks the best d-man this decade. Burns and Karlsson? Not bad. Good luck paying them though.

This might be me being a east coast homer, but I'm still taking any eastern conference powerhouse (Bolts, Leafs, Pens, Caps) over SJ. Also, did you see Detroit officially announced Zetterberg is no longer healthy enough to play professional hockey?

Unreal, Dorion got fleeced so damn hard. I feel terrible for die-hard sens fans. What a terrible end to a massive shitshow.

Its a huge bummer as a wings fan, hes only 40 points shy of 1000. He will still go down as one of the best to ever wear the winged wheel but damn, it does kinda suck. On the plus side, the wings do save some money off the books with a lil bit more coming off next season.

Its not all bad, though. Especially with the news of Yzerman stepping down as GM with Tampa and moving back to Detroit to most likely take up the GM role with the wings in a few years time. There is still 2 years left on Hollands contract, but its something that is 10 years overdue almost. He was an assistant GM shortly after his retirement but Holland didn't want to move him up within the organization. He has had some great success with Tampa and excited to see what he might do with the wings, if it does play out accordingly.

Kesler has turned into a total fruitcake since he left the canucks. I missed when he would go into beast mode with the canucks?

How do y’all still support ur home town team when ur whole line up that u grew up with had changed?

For example I grew up with the Canuck line up that almost had it all in 2011, now I do t even know who the fuck is on the team

When I was growing up the Pens had Jagr, Kovalev, the Moose in net, Lemieux out of retirement, Kasparaitis, Gonchar, and others I’m probably forgetting. They drafted Sid and Geno and Fleury and Letang and slowly the roster turned over with Lemieux finally retiring and winning the cup in ‘09.

Today the roster is still headed by Sid and Geno but filled out with a bunch of young exciting players. Luckily the Pens have had success in recent years but you just have to start cheering for a different group of faces. Watching young players like Murray, Guentzel, Maatta, Dumoulin, and Rust is different from watching some of the old faces but the game is changing and these young guys fly.

Again maybe it’s different for Pens fans since we’ve have Sid and Geno playing for almost half my life but you just support the next generation of players.
