2016 Skidoo summit 800 won’t idle.

Lookin at buying a skidoo. It’s a good deal, but it won’t idle, you can get it going with a few pulls but if you’re not revving it, she’ll die. Was wondering if any handymen out there have some guesses or experience with fixing this issue. Let me know what ya think! Thanks.

2016 models are injected, no carbs. Don’t buy a used sled with issues like that man. If it’s got issues already it probably has more you don’t know about.

Carb needs cleaned and or rejetted. Could also be bad fuel.

It could be anything from a vacuum leak to the engine's on it's last legs.

Sometimes good deals, aren't. It's really best to know what you're getting into before you buy.

Inline fuel filter. Its the only thing on those sleds that doesn't come up on a computer scan. If it can get going but dies like that it's most likely that.

What is the guy asking for it?

Yo dog! I would do a compression test and make sure the top end and the cyilnders are healthy replace spark plugs while youre at it (make sure to index them right), after that proabably new injectors, then fuel filter. If I had to guess someone probably got some shit in the tank maybe and its clogging enough somewhere that it only gets enough fuel if the throttle opens up some. You should go look at it and hold the throttle open for a while and see if that helps at all.

etec engines are direct injection and naturally aspirated, no carb to clean.

Gotcha I was just assuming it was carbureted.

bad fuel or air filter are the first things i would check, in my 2012 summit a similar thing happens because of problems with the tether.

How many miles on it?

If you’re not handy or are not looking for a project, find one that runs strong. Nothing worse then being 20 miles deep at -10° and having your gloves off Fucking with your sled to make it run.

This hits it home dude. If it's your first sled you have no business dealing with a fixer upper. Save a bit more cash and get a better sled. It will break. But not right away and you can slowly learn.

I appreciate the feed back from everyone. This isnt my first sled. And I made this thread for a friend. Myself and my friends could probably fix it, but it was for my gf at the time. It was a cool deal. Fresh Engine, new top end, and new track. Belt was also in good shape. Once you got it running it ran really well. Just could not idle. It was just over 3000 miles but it seems all necessary work had been done. Will probably end up looking for something else. Problem is market in our area isn’t too sharp for sleds right now. All I know is I got mine, and I’m friggin JACKED.

If everything youre saying is true, then buy it. New track alone is $1500.
