2012... the end of the world?

So I'm taking a class on Native American Music and Dance... lets not go into it, I need 2 more credits and I'm done with VLPA. Anyways, our prof mentioned today that the Mayan Calendar shows that in 2012, a great cycle will come to an end, and a new 'revolution' of the calendar will start. Furthermore, many native american cultures believe in the world having cycles of death and rebirth, and that the current world, the 4th, is coming to an end. So that piqued my interest to look into this more. Could 2012 actually bring some of this?

Apparently it goes even further. Buddhist belief is based in reincarnation. The reincarnation of Buddha will bring an age of enlightenment and prosperity. Interestingly enough, Buddhist followers have recently been flocking to a young Nepalese boy, calling him Buddha reincarnated. He apparently has been without food or water for 6 months, and has been meditating motionless under a tree. Whether you believe it or not, Buddhists around the world have been flocking to him, and see him as the rebirth of Buddha, and the start of a new age. Other events seem to coincidently occur in 2012. Oil production is expected to peak and sharply drop off as reserves are used up. Theres also set to be a galactic alignment, where our galactic center will supposedly be in line with two constellations (however, I like many think this is crap since we have hundreds of constellations created for navigational purposes...). Lots of those scary Gian's believe that humans will have some sort of psycho-awakening around 2012 as well. Other 'signs' appear in the widely disputed Bible Code and Nostradamus Code.

Most worrisome perhaps is the realization that US elections are that year as well.

So what do you think? Albeit the fact that you can find coincidences if you look hard enough, will 2012 bring anything out of the ordinary? Anyone planning for the rapture?

Finally, some evidence! I have been saying this for years now. 2012 Dec 22nd is to be the date of the end of the world.

Also, 2007 will be a terrible year for many, enjoy your lives people.

..but I wouldn't be surprised if the world just kind of shut down at one point in the future. Resources all around the globe are being depleted... from oil, to fish in the ocean. We're also speeding up this process by doing next to nothing about our crazy consumption of energy/food/resources. For me, a complete depletion of many or all of our resources is not too hard to fathom at all. I think a there are vast possibilities as to what can/will happen to us possibly in our own lifetimes.
 
OMG... In the Movie "Children of men" Theo wear's a London 2012 sweater the entire movie, could this be a sign of the end of the world...? OMG
 
even if its not true, do you know how freaked out everyone is gonna be? on the mayan caleneder its December 21st 2012. its gonna be december 31st 1999 x 100000. people are gonna freak out, riots and shit
 
Not necesasrily, rebirth is an interesting concept, it could mean rebirth of the world spirit, and conciousness. For example, when one pursues faith in religion they lost, it is considered rebirth(this is frequent in most religions). The term rebirth can appeal to many things beyoned life and death in the biological sense.

World going to explode anyways guys, Global warming... North Korea... Middle East... USA.... I'd say just go skiing while you can.
 
We should be speeding up the process of depleting our natural resources considering our population grows by 93 million each year (death rates cancelling out birth rates already summed up, thats the actual increase) and it'll just be a bigger number each year because human populations are growing so fast.
 
NASA is expecting a polar shift of the sun in 2012. its like the solar max or something but the earth and sun are supposed to align with the center of teh galaxy or something. the mayans studied the stars alot and had alot of knowledge that we probably do not have right now. that mayan calender knew about the lunar eclipse the other day. it predicted that "gods with white skin" would come on like march 15 in some year(forgot the year) but they came that day. I think that it will just be some strange astronomical day and the poles will start to slowly reverse but who knows.

nostradomous predicted something for then i believe but he a prophecie of the end of times set for about every dozen years anyways
 
the world was believed to end a long time ago. i dont know the year but everyone flipped out. people sold all their shit and moved out of their houses. they got as much money as possible and blew it because they thought the world was going to end. shitty for them, the world never ended. shit out of luck the next day. or....im thinking of a simpsons episode haa.

no way dude. look how much the world has changed in the last couple hundred years. if the trends keep continuing how they are, the earth won't be able to handle us.

i think the biggest danger to us is the melting ice caps.
