2012 Hellbents

So, I'm looking at buying some 2012 (last season's) Hellbents. I'm 6ft around 160pounds. The main reason I'm buying these is for a trip to Japan next year, and living in the UK means that there is nowhere I can test them before hand. Not sure if I'll need the length of the 189s if I'm going to be doing more tree dodging than charging. Any opinions?

They're noodles so I doubt you'll be doing much "charging".

Also if you're going in a year you'll probably grow or weigh more so go with the 189.

Do you really need to ride switch?

Figure out where this thread goes.

they're actually not really "noodles," they're pretty stable, especially in deep pow.
I'm bigger than you are and I always ride the 179's. I would recommend those. Knowing only what I've seen in video about Japan, I think 79's will do you good, nothing too steep, a lot of trees and very deep snow. I'm pretty jealous. Have fun over there!

I'm thinking of getting the pettitors and mounting some dukes on there for BC. Having trouple deciding whether the 179 or 189 will be best for me as well. I'm trying to learn some new tricks in the pow so I need them to be nimble but Maximum stability is also somthing I need. I'm 5'11 180 lbs and I ski pretty aggressively.

Will they handle good on backcountry kickers? How are they in the air while spinning and grabbing? They look really heavy and the width is crazy. Any thoughts?

just build or hit a big enough jump ! i have only skied the 2010 models i think, and although i do not own them and prefer my benchetlers, maidens and glo sticks, i have ridden them and jumped on them for a full day at moonlight riding there park, and on the big jumps, they were really fun to do 5 and cab 5s with a fun grab if ya got the hang time. not to mention k2 builds some bombproof skis. i still have a pair of the original made n aks and they still rip hard and are a great ski, years later the still hold up amazing and charge hard. if i were yas and found a good deal on them, id buy them. just my 2 cents. have a good winter .

I'd like to hear of a softer pow ski. Maybe old EP Pros? They're in the same realm of flex. Calling it a noodle isn't a bad thing. If I was into jibbing and backcountry trickery like yourself the hellbent would be at the top of my list (I used to own a pair). I wouldn't however put it at the top or even middle of my list for "charging" like the OP said.

My two cents.

they rock, look at my sig to see what schmies (designer of graphics) said about them. he's right.

im 6'1" 170 lbs and went with 189. glad i did, anything with tip and tail rocker rides much shorter than listed size.
