2012 End of the world...

A lot of people have been talking about 2012 for quite some time... A lot of the stuff is pure bull shit, like the meteor showers / polar realignment / mayan calender ending whatever... But a lot of things are starting to show that shit may not be as happy go lucky as we presume... For example in Africa there are prides of lions intentionally hunting people and slaughtering them in villages. In Vancouver, BC, there are fire ants that got by on imported tree branches and shit, causing huge property damage. Greece is getting butt railed by politics and civil dispute... People are dying everyday in riots, etc. Almost every country in the world is being affected some way or another with the economy slowly crashing. Not saying the world is going to end, and I'm no skeptic, but it seems like we might have ourselves a couple of problems in the world.

It's been this way for years.

Take the great depression - The world's largest economy collapsed in a day! Almost every country's economy was hurt in some way... and then about a decade later, there's world war II. the biggest conflict the world had ever seen. Many people thought of that as the end.

The Cold War! That is probably the closest we've ever been to an apocalypse.

If you think about it, there've been many times the world has been close to utter destruction. massive genocides. Wars.

All it takes is a few smart people and many willing to cooperate (that's the tough part), to set us back on track.

Sure the world's in a pickle... but hasn't it always been?

the mayan calendar has ended in the past.

the day the spanish conquered the mayans was the most recent time when the calendar ended. the mayans believed that the ending of the calendar symbolized the returning of their god (who they believed was in the form of a white man, aka Cortes)

the end of the mayan calendar wont be the end of the world, but something big is gonna happen. and yeah, the world is a fucked up place, everybody knows that. shit has been hitting the fan recently though, it's pretty messed up.

Would you please cite your source? I am truly interested in this, and very surprised I have not heard of it. I would also recommend reading The Man Eaters of Tsavo. It is non-fiction that reads like fiction, detailing how two male lions killed a tremendous number of people, eluded hunters sent after them, and stopped the entire construction of a railroad for quite a while.

Not looking to start a shitstorm or anything, but there is no way that a problem could get so huge in so little time that it ends the world in 2012. 500 years, maybe if we do absolutely nothing to stop whatever problem might happen but in 5 months, no.

inb4 the world ends.

Its so hard to articulate how I feel about stuff like this, but lets see if I can say this succinctly. The older I get, the more I feel like I see the bigger picture; I feel like a true realist. Earth has some problems man, some of which honestly seem larger in scale than previously in history and totally unique to our age. Some would argue not, as mankind has seen some pretty hardcore highs and lows. I'm not sure I agree though. It seems that more people have died in conflicts and there is more possibility for loss in this age than ever before. So I guess I really don't know. All I can say is that I have started planning for some shit to go down. Not extreme far out bomb shelter nonsense just...I have lost faith in humanity. Truly, not in the turn of phrase.

The future of the planet is closely tied to that of the Sun. As a result of the steady accumulation of helium at the Sun's core, the star's total luminosity will slowly increase. The luminosity of the Sun will grow by 10% over the next 1.1 Gyr (1.1 billion years) and by 40% over the next 3.5 Gyr.[58] Climate models indicate that the rise in radiation reaching the Earth is likely to have dire consequences, including the loss of the planet's oceans.[59]

The Earth's increasing surface temperature will accelerate the inorganic CO2 cycle, reducing its concentration to levels lethally low for plants (10 ppm for C4 photosynthesis) in approximately 500 million[25] to 900 million years. The lack of vegetation will result in the loss of oxygen in the atmosphere, so animal life will become extinct within several million more years.[60] After another billion years all surface water will have disappeared[26] and the mean global temperature will reach 70 °C[60] (158 °F). The Earth is expected to be effectively habitable for about another 500 million years from that point,[25] although this may be extended up to 2.3 billion years if the nitrogen is removed from the atmosphere.[27] Even if the Sun were eternal and stable, the continued internal cooling of the Earth would result in a loss of much of its CO2 due to reduced volcanism,[61] and 35% of the water in the oceans would descend to the mantle due to reduced steam venting from mid-ocean ridges.[62]

The Sun, as part of its evolution, will become a red giant in about 5 Gyr. Models predict that the Sun will expand out to about 250 times its present radius, roughly 1 AU (150,000,000 km).[58][63] Earth's fate is less clear. As a red giant, the Sun will lose roughly 30% of its mass, so, without tidal effects, the Earth will move to an orbit 1.7 AU (250,000,000 km) from the Sun when the star reaches it maximum radius. The planet was therefore initially expected to escape envelopment by the expanded Sun's sparse outer atmosphere, though most, if not all, remaining life would have been destroyed by the Sun's increased luminosity (peaking at about 5000 times its present level).[58] A 2008 simulation indicates that Earth's orbit will decay due to tidal effects and drag, causing it to enter the red giant Sun's atmosphere and be vaporized.

I'm unable to remember what it was called, but I watched a show on National Geographic about it. It was called Maneater Manhunt or something along those lines. Show scared the shit out of me, there was some horrific stuff. Like people being dragged off from their houses and stuff..

It has always been like this. It is just with this whole 2012 thing, everything is being blown out of proportion and there are a lot more stories surfacing that would normally not. Short-term, we really don't have that much to worry about. Long-term, who the fuck knows. But if something huge does happen it is going to be after all of us are long gone.

The end of the world was postponed for another 7,000 years. So we have do deal with this shit for a long time

They made a movie about it called the Ghost and the Darkness. It was a really good movie, but scary since it was actually true.

Wait wait wait, am I reading this correctly? How does it work that by taking leap days AWAY we would be in 2013? Wouldn't we be in past?

Everybody read this, then post.

Dear Ask Boz,

Is all we really are just dust in the wind? Or, are we all just a drop of water in an endless sea?

Love, Dan C.

Dear Dan

Well, no, unless you've already paid to be on that high of a level. You see, few people know that the Kansas song you are referring to was a paid advertisement, an attempt to get you to upgrade to the level of "dust in the wind." Actually, we all start off as "scum on a pond." You have to pay for each upgrade to become a higher level metaphor. If we remember correctly, "dust in the wind" costs about $20,000. Don't even ask about a "drop of water in an endless sea." Even we don't have that much cash.

If you don't have a lot of money, the upgrade process is slow and not very fun. As you plod your way through being "filth on the road," "deer droppings in the woods," "grease on a forehead," and "sore on an udder," you may feel like giving up. Although we at Ask Boz always encourage people to give up as soon as possible, we can tell you that, after time, and lots of cash, you will begin to see a little hope.

Once you get to the "moss on the rock" level, you really start to notice a dramatic life improvement. Just a thousand dollars more can get you to become a "stick in a pile." Then there is a dramatic leap to "lice on a monkey." We stayed that way for quite a while, mostly because it would be hundreds of thousands more to finally get to the coveted "parasite on a shark" level.

We would stop there, really. We know that "lint on a cardigan" sounds tempting, but it just isn't worth it. Also, beware of offers that speak of quick upgrades. Sure, they do move you up several levels, but they are always selling levels people skip, like "dandruff in the hair," "boils on the backside," and "zits on a kid." Really, we encourage you to follow the other great advice from the same song: "don't hang on" and "drift away." It's not our fault if you insist on having hope!

BTW - The company changed its policy from "All your money won't another minute buy" to "60 cents for the first another minute buy, and 17 cents each additional minute buy."

Death is a natural part of life. Mourn them, do not. Miss them, do not. Attachment leads to jealousy.

Fear is the path to the Dark Side. Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering.

Dude you are fucking retareded, fucking retarded. Mayans used the sun to set their calendar so they accounted the extra 1/4 so they are right on the mark. Good god..

365.25 days = 1 year

Every four is an extra day because of the .25

This isn't exactly correct because I don't know when they started using leap years but

2012 x 365.25 = 734,883 days (real time)

2012 x 365 = 734,380 days (Mayan time)

734,883 - 734,380 = 503 days off

It's about 1.3 years ahead of us meaning it should have already happened

Yep he sun and shit but then, THE MOON? and other things like corn and mayan tradition and other non mathematic and unscientific babble

In other words, you're really, really right
