2011 and 2012 Punx

hmmm...tough one, I'm going to have to lean slightly more towards the 2012 punx...but all three are pretty durable.

has anybody ridden both the punx and the domains? Can i go wrong with either? I'm more of a jump kinda guy, not too hot at rails but trying to get better this year

Then punx no question (and this coming by someone who swore by the Domains last season...and I still kinda do), the punx will be way more stable on jumps than the Domain, the Domains are pretty soft which can cause some washing out on jumps unless you land really centered all the time.

Ok, so its impossible to find 2012 punx in a 182 anywhere. So now i guess its between the atomic patent and domains...Anybody ridden the patent

That's cause they haven't been shipped to dealers yet, just wait a few more weeks and they'll be available (every shop that says "out of stock" is going to get them once they ship)

Ok, Thanks dude, But has anybody ridden the Patent? Is it just a bulkier Punx? I think I'd like a wider park ski cause I'm not gonna be throwin any double corks or anything. just flowing around.

The 2012 punx is a super sick ski, i love my pair. Haven't ridden the patent but have heard from someone there have tried both they prefer the punx.

Both punx and domains have the same overall flex but domains have a pretty stiff flex underfoot and butterzones(where rocker starts). Domains are much heavier than punx.

Punx are have a progressive flex. I found my punx being much more buttery than my domains also less durable. Full rocker after 10 days.

Can't comment really on the edges but they are weak on both skis. No idea about 2012 punx.

I think domains are using extruded bases, felt much slower than my punx.

K2 lies about their edges. They spec 3.5mm but the real number is 2*2mm

before clicking on this thread I was planning on buying domains over punx. NOW I CAN'T DECIDE ANYMOOOOOOOOOORE

owning both, punx and domains, id go for punx again. they felt alot more responsive and snappy to throw around. they are so light, its crazy. the domains feel alot heavier and less lively. they are very stable though, because they are fairly wide. due to the early rise its alot harder to catch an edge on sloppy landings than with the punx.

does anyone know if the 2012 punx are alot heavier than the 2011 ones?

i did not really feel much of a difference in terms of butterability. i thought i would like rocker on a park ski, but actually i prefer camber, having skid a rockered park ski. i love rocker in the pow tho. the punx imo are just as flexy on the snow, however not when hand flexing. im considering getting another pair of 2011 punx as a backup ski. they are seriously rad!

the ski just doesnt feel as lively and fun on groomers or when hitting jumps. the contact area with the snow is reduced thus making it feel a bit sketchy. it just feels a bit sloppy and dead to me. im still going to ski it alot this season, especially since the durabilty so far is amazing. ive been hitting loads of rails and no edge crack whatsoever.

but ive blunted the edges under the binding. especially on icier conditions i felt it very hard to make a proper turn, since that is the area most pressure is on. during slushy summer snow this ski works best. i understand that many people may love it but its just not for me.

Let's say I'm a 70% rail type of guy, from your past experience would you recommend me the punx or the domains, I'm having such a hard time choosing between the two! oh and thanks btw! already had you at 10

not to make you more confused but also look at volkl walls. I've been looking at the same skis as you for months and still can't decide either. I really want to demo a rockered ski in NJ cause I'd like to see how they perform on ice/fake snow and the other crap we get here.

i think they're stiffer. but as far as park skis go, I don't think they're that stiff compared to other types of skis. basically it's just another symmetrical ski option. But I have heard they're really durable.

since i only had 10/11 punx with the thin edges, they cracked very fast. no rip outs yet tho. if your skiing that much rails id say go for domains. no edge cracks so far. and ive skid alot of rails this summer. the edge metal is very soft, so i have some round dents in my edges where i hit a rail but it doesnt look like it will crack anytime soon.

cant speak for 11/12 punx tho.

cheers!

parents and punx both rip for 2012. the difference between the 2011 punx and 2012 punx are the edges/base material. there were issues with the edges and the base blowing out with impact in the 2011's but thats all fixed. i beat on mine for a few months last season and had none of the issues that the 2011's had. they held up great.

the patent is a ton of fun, definitely different than the punx. the ski obviously has a much wider footprint, but the sidecut is also deeper so its still surprisingly quick for a bigger ski. theyre a little stiffer for 2012 than they were the past couple seasons, and theyre a little stiffer than the punx. theyre definitely my go to for bigger jumps; having more under foot just makes landings a little more pleasant.
