2011/2012 Gear

So whats up with next years bacons? Lengths, specs, flex, rocker?

They seem to be a replacement lizzie with rocker and longer lengths.

Found it,

Sir Francis Bacon

If Mr. Pollard's Opus is Eric Pollard's pow ski than the Sir Francis Bacon is Eric's 'go-to', 'quiver of one' ski. The Bacon sees some changes for 2011-2012 as well. Eric put the Bacon on a diet as well and narrowed it up a bit as well. Hard to think that this is Mr. Pollard's non-pow ski with a waist width of 108mm. Check out the specs:

Lengths cm: 172, 178, 184

Shape mm: 140-108-136

Sidecute m: 17.7 (184cm)

Stance mm:-20 (184mm)

Sidewall Construction

Early Rise tip & tail 20cm x 10mm

Early Taper tip & tail

Thin Tip

Maple Macroblock Core

G-Cut Geometry

Symmetric Flex

Sintered Faty Base & Edge

The Sir Francis Bacon also has some new sizing. The 162cm has been dropped, the 172cm is stil there but a 178cm has been added as well as a 184cm. For the little guys that loved the 162cm, not to worry the Sir Francis Bacon Shorty is still in the line up with a 145cm and a 155cm. The shorty has a shape of 133-107-129 so it'll fill the gap left by the missing 162cm real well. We hope to get out on this all mountain fatty soon and we'll let you know what we think when we do

I skied a 108 ski last weekend in knee deep powder, had no problem with float, and it was much easier getting it out to the knee deep snow the say a 120mm wide floppy dick ski.

I believe I am quoting a rep when I say this:

Pollard in the past few years has been going bigger with his tricks, and he found that with such a wide ski, it had so much float, that even in deeeep pow, it was causing harsh impacts with some of the bigger drops/airs they are doing. So he downsized the dimensions so the ski could sink a little bit on impact. This is also the reason the ski is stiffer. With bigger jumps, and a softer ski, yougotta land pretty spot on. So you have a bigger margin of error for landing with a stiffer ski. And honestly, I had the EPs last year, and I think I only needed a ski that fat for one day, and it was indeed epic. I do however, love the extremely playful nature of the original EP Pro. It turns any and all pow pow into a playground.

Hope that answers your question!

makes sense i guess... it just seems like when everyone is saying fat is better they go skinny but i get it now.. thanks

Well, Line, and specifically Pollard, kinda drove the progressive freestyle ski design with the SFB and EP. As the Pollard models flex, dimensions, rocker and taper, etc. has changed, so has Pollards riding style. Line still makes some 130 waisted skis, but Pollard does what Pollard wants.

i wonder if k2 saw any kind of sales decline since the hellbent upsized? i mean 132mm in the waist is just huge. the previous model seemed a bit more versatile. even some park runs on it. i just cant see doing that on the new model. disclaimer...i havent skied the new hellbent, so i may be talking out of my ass......

I got a pair of 2012 Atomic Codes in 186 from work today, gonna go ski them tomorrow, really excited, they have an awesome flex!!

Not sure if it's been said yet, but Causwell next year is going to be made by Volcom, not Nomis, does this mean sizing will be different?

yes and no. theyre pretty stiff. i dont really have another ski i could compare it to. it was 136-95-125.i would ride it in the park, but i didnt take them in the park when i rode them. where they really rode awesome was in the trees. they could also carve really well for being a cap-sidewall-cap construction. this will probably be my one ski quiver

New C&D is super sick, New BG is super sick (I was on mine today and they are the tits), new Pow ski is super sick. Basically you are fucking retarded if you don't buy something scott is making next year.

The new park ski also looks dope.

I liked the 2012's alot. I am 5'9, 135lbs and 18 years old and rode 179's. They were stable underfoot but in the tips and tails were very buttery due to the rocker. I also took them down a groomer run and they carve very well and can hold an edge (i know how to turn i grew up racing before anyone says anything). All in all i liked them and they are in my top 3 for my skis for next year.
