In Halifax, there are lobster statues.

In Toronto, there are moose. These two are close to Kenzington market:

Are there any in Montreal? I didn't know about the Polar Bears in Vancouver but that Darth Bear is so fucking sick.

speaking of the olympics it sucks that people like tanner hall wont be able to be in it because they do drug test for drugs like marijuana lol

They are NOT polar bears. They are Spirit Bears. Rare white "black" bears. They are unique to BC. A guy from my high school (pretty big douche, but none-the-less) made the world aware of them like 10 years ago in grade 8 or so. Simon something or other was his name. CBC actually made a movie about his life. They are pretty sweet bears actually, despite how much of a crazy anti-forestry hippy the guy is. They should have been the mascot, not the bullshit ones we came up with. Also the inuksuks are fucking bullshit as well. They have nothing at all to do with BC, more to do with the Inuit. We could have done so much better, even if we had to go the native route (which is garbage in itself), but if you have to do it, at least go with something BC/West Coast. Totem Poles would have been WAY better, they are actually unique to BC (like Spirit Bears) and look pretty sweet to be honest.

Also, before the Spirit Bears we had 100 Orcas around Vancouver and Victoria. There are still a bunch of bears and orcas around in different places as they were auctioned off for charity.

haha, and Miga as well.

Why would VANOC or whatever organization picks these get someone that has barely lived in Canada at all to design the mascots for the event that is supposed to represent Canada?
Money from asian immigrants I guess.

I hate that japanese stylized illustrator bullshit. I bet they use arial rounded and take it in the ass from a sumo wrestler too.

It looks exactly like hello kitty, as well as everything ever done by anyone who plays on that stupid fucking trend, because it's easy to do.

The winter olympics are in Canada, not China. that's the summer olympics. someone didn't get the memo.

white people are actually a minority in vancouver. there are more immigrants than caucasians.

as for the inukshuks, the reason half the shit is native themed is to buy off the native indians for all the wrongs done in the past, in the cheapest way possible

The moose are where it's at. Def a polar bear would be sick too. I feel like I am watching a bullshit Jap cartoon when I see the new mascots.

Hell someone once asked me if I could shoot polar bear from my backyard, so it's safe to say a polar bear would be a good choice for a mascot.

theres a huge one thats down on english bay at the bottom of Denman street thats been there for like a thousand years (literally)

but i fully agree. there is reasoning behind the look of the mascots though. who is most likely going to buy these things and who are they trying to appeal to? asian tourists. millions of asian tourists.

honestly the whole thing is a big mess. they preach sustainability but deliver everything in plastic bags with VANOC logos. theyve cut down lot 1/9 in whistler which is the 3 acre forest outside Esquires/Comor/Brew House/Glacier Shop for a Podium area, instead of using the like, 4 golf courses who offer sick backdrops...i could go on and on and on and on.

Actually you're wrong. The inuksuk on English Bay has been there since 1986/87. It was created as part of the Northwest Territories pavilion (which makes sense) at Expo 86, and was moved to its current location on English Bay after Expo ended. It has absolutely nothing to do with BC.

Yeah, I definitely don't understand the inukshuk or those creepy anime critters. Inukshuk's aren't even entirely Canadian. They've been built in Alaska and Greenland too. Bullshit.

I didn't even know that the olympics had mascots until these were unveiled

besides them being printed on t-shirts that i'm not going to wear, why does it matter?

a polar bear could easily eat all three of those mascots, therefore it should be the mascot.

I live in English Bay and know for a fact that the Inukshuck was definitely not there for a 1000 years. It was like taken and put there 20 years ago or someting

i know, i was going to say canadians but that would be more incorrect, although I would gladly debate that for an evening. I guess we could say 3 generation canadian? I don't know what gen to pick, but there are more asians than caucasians in vancouver. canadian or not.
