The Way you look at the upcoming winter right now depends on where you live, and it only paints a small picture in the forecast for the upcoming winter.
As the most recent climate predictions are showing, the El Nino is ending, and there is an abnormal cooling along the equator in the Pacific Ocean. Climatologists are now predicting at lest a weak la nina for the upcoming winter. the link to the noaa data can be found here:

Right now that is saying a lot, especially since that report was published back on July 15th. Since then, these trends have continued, and the chance of a La Nina year is staring to look like a strong possibility.
So what will the weather look like?Something like this...
The La Nina favors the Northwest U.S. and Western Canada for Idea winter conditions. This ranges from Whistler-Blackcomb, to BIg Sky, to Mt. Hood, to Jackson Hole, to Steamboat. The Rockies are likely to receive above average snowfall and below normal temps, meaning more snow for us. Unfortunately the Southwest is looking at a dry winter season, since the jet stream will be heavily diverted for the season. Affected will range from Mammoth, to Tahoe, to Taos. Sorry guys.
Keep in mind that accurate models of the upcoming season are not due until september. So all we do right now is wait. Since I am from Montana, I will be praying for the La Nina to return, and with it the snow.
