2010/2011 winter not looking so good...

I don't really care because there is no possible way this winter could be any worse than last years in nny. washington dc got more snow than us

These are never reliable. Every year there is a "Gonna suck" and "Oh my god looking good!" thread.

The Way you look at the upcoming winter right now depends on where you live, and it only paints a small picture in the forecast for the upcoming winter.
As the most recent climate predictions are showing, the El Nino is ending, and there is an abnormal cooling along the equator in the Pacific Ocean. Climatologists are now predicting at lest a weak la nina for the upcoming winter. the link to the noaa data can be found here: http://http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/90day/fxus05.html
Right now that is saying a lot, especially since that report was published back on July 15th. Since then, these trends have continued, and the chance of a La Nina year is staring to look like a strong possibility.
So what will the weather look like?Something like this...
LaNina(2).png

The La Nina favors the Northwest U.S. and Western Canada for Idea winter conditions. This ranges from Whistler-Blackcomb, to BIg Sky, to Mt. Hood, to Jackson Hole, to Steamboat. The Rockies are likely to receive above average snowfall and below normal temps, meaning more snow for us. Unfortunately the Southwest is looking at a dry winter season, since the jet stream will be heavily diverted for the season. Affected will range from Mammoth, to Tahoe, to Taos. Sorry guys.
Keep in mind that accurate models of the upcoming season are not due until september. So all we do right now is wait. Since I am from Montana, I will be praying for the La Nina to return, and with it the snow.

I guess you missed it.

Whistler got fucking hammered all season long. The base, where the olympics are, was often lower then the snow level. The alpine, half a mile to a mile higher, was in full swing all season long.

I had a good season done here in the Cascades too, maybe not one for the record books, but I logged in some good days.

Ya seriously last summer they said whistler and the rest of BC would get a low amount of snow and most of them got record amounts so it means shit all. And why be such a fucking downer postin this stupid ass thread

ive heard that the west is suppost to have a great winter from my friend whos teh GM at grouse but i guess he could just be telling me that

dude no worries weather men are never right, and the east coast has enough snow guns to cover the world so im set

usually it snows down to the base... also, the north shore mountains were rained on for the whole two weeks of the olympics. didn't you hear about the halfpipe made out of hay?so yeah, last year was less than average.

It's probably just gonna rain all year in the northwest especially baker I'd stick to the east coast I heard this luh ninas supposed to be good for the east.

hey, thats my weather man!

But to the OP. Do a forum search. You'll find that you are very misinformed. Unless your from the east, thats shitty for you if thats the case.

Heres how it goes... This La nina is going to be great for the PNW, as for all of us east coasters specifically N.Y, its just going to be average all around. Which means a pretty decent winter from where I live...

crosspost from accuweather.com. not my map and not official. only what some meteorologists have come up with so far as a prediction:

Every year that I've been watching accuweathers winter outlooks they have Been right on. Seeing this map gets me so stoked for the season. See all you east coasters were not going to have a bad winter at all this year

Gilbert White (18 July 1720 – 26 June 1793) recorded the effects on world climate after the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Laki in 1783. Laki is just next door to Eyjafjallajokull, the volcano which has caused airlines trouble this year in Europe. In the years after Laki erupted the climate chilled in Europe and thousands died from famine caused by crop failure due to the cooler weather, I am not sure the size of the current Icelandic eruptions will cause a famine in these modern times, however it might cause cooler average temperatures which could result in fantastic snow conditions next winter season.

Fuck yeah, i

exactly...i feel like everyday they called for snow this winter it didnt, but when it was supposed to be sunny it dumped...weathermen suck

Haha. Yeah... the flatness isnt too awesome. But whatever. It still gets light pow.

It's just the closest large resort like that to me now.

Thank god for la nina if she pulls through. the only problem is PNW is going to get busy... o well more interesting charecters!

In Minnesota resorts or shall I say hills are 95% reliant on man made snow so I'm not too worried.

These meteorologists know dick. And right as I opened this thread "Mad World" (the most depressing song in the world) came on through pandora, kind of creeped me out.

Australia started off as the worst season in ages this year but we've just had about a metre in a week so its starting to shape up about two thirds of the way through.

Actually the mid Atlantic was (comparatively) awesome last year. I had three pow days over a foot, on Pennsylvania. That doesn't happen, ever. I also legitimately made turns in Philly, not just hit handrails, but legit treeskiing. I will gladly take last winter all over again.

I had 2 good days up here in Upstate NY, only got to ski one of them because we were re-modeling this winter

Epicness nonetheless
