2008 US Open Info

That system is lame, add an extra day to the comp for qualifiers and let everyone compete who wants to and may the best man or woman win that event. Very Very lame what if someone like TJ had to go through that system and never got in the US Open. Im disapointed in whoever made the final call in this decision. I will be sking pow in Whistler myself but I feel bad for whoever doesnt get in that wants a spot.

SKIING IS ONLY FOR THE RICH!!!! When will you people learn if you or your parents aren't loaded you have no chance of making it?

So is it you who had the idea of the lottery? if not, I can't understand how you're defending it. Maybe you should think why you're the only one that thinks it's a good idea

the lotto may not be the best solution for getting participants, however, it does have its benefits.

the cost of entering the open last year was something like $125 per event, so in having a lotto it allows for the possibility for people interested on skiing the tour determine how much they value their spot. For some, they might not want to drop $125 to ski the open, but could afford to risk $30 (just to get a spot).

yes the lotto allows for luck to play a role in the selection process, but while you can better your odds, there is no guarantee that you will get a spot, and therefore the luck is random. Random selection provides for the fairest opportunities for an "open" event.

there isn't much difference between entering the lotto and not getting a spot, and having a spot and not winning -- both are a game of chance (one requires luck while the other requires skill.)

^ we are not talking about the luck factor in the lotery issue. At leaast I can get to understand the luck factor. But the fact that throwing more $$ increases your possibilities is something just outrageous

when did i ever say it was a good idea?

i am saying, to all the dipshit kids, such as yourslef, who believe that kids with legitimate talent now have no chance of getting in because they are poor: you don't know what you're talking about. the ONLY thing that has changed, is the spots given away to people who would stay up late or wake up really early and register online, are now being given away by the lottery. Im sure last year there were a bunch of people bitching that west coast kids had an advantage because it was only 1 am instead of 5 am when the site was open for registration, meaning only west coast kids would get in, and skiing would be dominated by west coast kids for the next 25 years. Now just replace west coast kids with rich kids and you have exactly what's going on now. so please just put a cock in it dogfucker.

pretty sure that registration opened 5 or 6 PM mst for the last few years so i don't know what you're talking about.

just checked the website, apparently after you buy all those lotto tickets, if you get chosen you still have to pay the full registration. this is from the website...

"...This year we are doing an open lottery from November 15th until December 6th. It is $5 (non refundable/non changeable) each time to register. You can register as many times as you want to. Remember, you only need to create your user name once. All athletes accepted will be notified by email on Monday December 10th and charged in full..."

Ridiculous. This is contrary to the spirit of letting anyone move up, now you have to have the money to get your chance. Ridiculous.

the time doesn't matter. i'm just making a point that people will find something to bitch about no matter what system they use, because like it or not, not every person who can do a 360 is not going to get the chance to compete in the uso, no matter how fun it might be for them.

Wow so it's definatly about making tons of money. That's fucking ridiculous is this what one of skiings most down to earth and humble competitions made for the little guy to have a chance has come to?

I think it is... which is completely gay, this competition was made to let the kids that have talent and skill get their name out there. It looks like its moving into the direction of another fucking invitational event, slowely, but i am sure that is were it is heading....

at least waking up or staying awake is something you have complete control over. A lottery on the other hand is completely out of your hands. therefore, they can not be compared in any way.

so all your whining and bitching is about you and your shitty 540's not having control over the us fucking open of skiing? learn your place.

i don't really understand why anyone is surprised, the US Open is always fuckin stupid and they always find a new way to make it even more retarded every year. hooray!

well.

I hate this lottery gay game. I wanted to do the open but I'm not playing this game. I'm just gonna register once.

Well unfortunatly it's definatly moving in that direction. You gotta pay 500 dollars just to get a decent chance of getting into US open now, and once you're in you still have to pay the 200 hundred or so registration fee. Plus the cost of travel and lodging. You've gotta suply your own equipment which get's very expensive until you're sponscored and buy lift passes. Now with double flips getting so huge you've gotta pay the cost to water ramp douring the summer.

As much as I hate saying it, it's very very hard to make it in the sport if you don't have lots of money, and I would have no chance if it wasn't for my parents. I won't even lie about that, if my rents wouldn't pay for any of my skiing things, I wouldn't have made it very far at all

countering your earlier point, wallisch didnt get in last year, and look at his skiing.

Many

people do get in via team slots and shit (some of whom should not), but soooo many damn gomers do

too, and this makes it all the more likely that even more have the

opportunity. This lottery is essentially "the more you spend, the

better chance you have" just like andrew said.

I'm glad I have no desire to compete. I'd be pissed. This comp should help the industry, it just seems like it's hurting it with this bullshit.

so what if it is a lottery. if you really want to find a way into this sport you will pay as much as you can towards the lottery. this is one of the best ways to get known as a skier and if means something to you, you will most likely try your best to get in. how many of you have actually bought a lotto?

ya but there are tons of kids that buy like 20 and its ridiculous. it is fucking up your chance of getting in. i havent even bought one yet because i am trying to find out what will be the best.

so i cant make an account !! it says every time i try ; "an error occurred while trying to save your information in the database" has this happend to anyone else? can anyone tell me what to do !!

i think you guys are missing the part where it says prequalified athletes. all of the pros that finished well last year are already in it. there are 200 open spots for people that don't have names for themselves already.

I don't think you get it. Those prequalified are usually top 3 at the BIG events, like US Open, Xgames, WSI, Euro Open, Etc. They are usually the same people. There are many skiers of very high caliber who can't get in through team slots, or prequalified slots, who have to battle it out with the tools who try to enter. And yea, there are some big ass tools that go there.

its kinda weird cuz i dont think i saw tj schillers name on the prequalified list anywhere. is this possible.?

that takes away my support of the lotto system.

Maybe the open is hurting for $$ this year and think that they can recoup through the use of the lotto. it would be nice to hear where the money raised from the lotto will go.

Welll I did it last year, and it was really stupid

and honestly it wasn't that fun

Grant and I had way more fun the day we went over to keystone than any day that we spent at copper

what makes a lot more sense to me with this lottery system is letting you enter as many times as you want...great... BUT if you get in... then the money you spent on your lottery ticketsis put towards your entry fee. So, i i spend $20 on lottery tix, and get in, great, i get a $20 credit towards my entry fee.

The fact you still have to pay the total registration fee on top of the lottery tix is rediculous.

NS.com should find out if registration is transferable, win a spot and do a contest to see who gets it on here.

too late kiddos i already bought all the lottery tickets...PM me to buy some, only if ur good tho

wow this is retarded, i cnt believed they would do that,
it really just seems like someone over there is trying to make some extra money, a lot of kids will have their moms pay hundreds for them to get in. i think their should be some qualifying comps to it instead so its only legit people.
