2008 Macbook pro vs. 2013 HP?

That resale value on MBP is pretty fucking insane. Honestly it shock given how fast technology goes obsolete that it is worth that much still.
That being said get an 2013 HP. I love my MBP, but I honestly wouldn't want to pick one up that is 5 years old. Now if this was between a 2013 MBP vs a 2013 HP I would say get the MBP, the longevity of those laptops is insane, proof with their resale value.

why didnt you just get an update for 30 bucks?
and if it really was just the hdd that fried, it is childsplay to install mac osx on a new harddrive, if you'd like, i can walk you through it.
theres no need for a new macbook if it was only the drive, i messed up my harddrive on my old 2008 mb and just took apart an external harddisk and installed lion on it.

So you can revert it back to the normal windows layout? It doesn't have to be in the stupid fucking tablet layout?
I used one at work and traded the a girl with her computer that was 2 years older because I couldn't stand windows 8.

well, theres a similar layout, just it doesnt have the start button, which i dont miss.
you can make a tile on the tablet ui which upon clicking gets you your normal desktop
it would be fuckin ridiculous, if microsoft would have only allowed 2 windows at a time in metro UI

simple get the mac, i had a 2012 hp things only last a year or so at best. macs last forever. bought a 08 mac and have had it for 3 years nothing wrong no virus software no virus. get the mac they put out updates to keep you up to date so dont go pc you will be buying a new computer in 2 years if you do. oh and they stay fast as shit.
