In an unprecidented move, Rossi is changing next season's Scratch BC graphic due to public outcry over the image of the woman getting her throat slit by Freddy Krueger.

Those of you who already have a pair, consider them collector's items...

ROSSIGNOL REAFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT TO WOMEN

(Williston, VT) In a decisive move, Rossignol management leaves no question about its commitment to women and its total support in the campaign against violence.

According to François Goulet, President of Rossignol Canada and Exec. V.P. of Rossignol's USA headquarters, 'It was brought to our attention this morning that the graphic on our Scratch BC had an unintended impact. It was originally conceived, by European designers, to be a satire of the cinematic horror flicks of the 80's and 90's. This being said, after reading an article this morning regarding the depiction, we have immediately taken steps to replace the cosmetic on this ski.'

Rossignol's Scratch BC is considered the standard in the ski industry for excellence in backcountry by the youth market. Jeanne-Marie Gand, a Vice President of Rossignol and the first woman named as a Corporate Officer in the hardgoods end of the ski industry, spoke to the subject 'To be honest, I had always understood the concept as being an abstract graphic, however, upon hearing it described otherwise in the article, our Company wants there to be no potential for such an interpretation, and has taken the steps to leave no room for doubt. Rossignol has been leading the charge in the respect and development of our sport for women.'

Mr. Goulet, in his statement, thanked the writer for having brought this to the Company's attention and enabling him to act swiftly and decisively.

wow.....am i the only one who never even realized that's what the graphic was? i just thought it was a claw. but that's crazy that they'd change the whole graphic scheme.....any word on what it will be now? i guess someone high up at rossi had a pissed off wife

I disagree. I definitely think there is room in skiing for violence depicted against women.

Furthermore, it could be said that the old scratch graphic(naked woman) encouraged unrealistic expectations of how women should look, causing eating disorders and self esteem issues. Isn't that violence against women also?

Come to think of it, the graphics on my black/orange Scratch BCs offend me. I think I'm going to complain to Rossignol and have them buy me a pair of Armada ARV 175.

i wanna know how this guy thinks oj simpson and the ski industry are related. i also wanna know why everyone is so goddamn uptight and so damn sensitive about something that is, in contrast to what is on tv, nothing at all.

whatever happend to free speach and artistic expression? and i doubt that mr. weber's 3 year old daugher would ever realize what that graphic is if she saw it.

^good point. i don't think rossis target market is soccer moms or middle school kids. They want the most bad ass nightmare on elm streed mutha they can find buying their skis. Now if the new logo for fisher price had that on it i could see it being a problem.

yeah i'm surprised about that. you can't even see the womens tits in the ski graphic.... so it could be a man. if it was no one would say a thing! I mean it's just a scary monster with his grip on someones neck. so are soo many worse things then take...

here is the thing guys. First off, the graphic was sick. But, regardless if only one person sees the offensive graphic in their mind, that is enough. Rossignol cant afford to not change it. They could lose business, regular buyers, and gain a bad rep. This is exactly what they don't want. I guarantee they were in the board room saying, 'what is that guy's problem? we really don't want to change the graphic, but now we are forced to'. Rossignol, good luck, it was a sick graphic

Here's what I dont understand: By now, the skis should be in production or even finished already for next season. They're made quite a while before they're sold. Is Rossignol actually gonna do a recall for so many pairs of skis, because one opinionated extremist believes there's some relevance between a horror graffic on skis and the O.J. Simpson case. Oh...and his 3 year old daughter? what is he talking about? Little tip, when writing an article such as this, you might want to try avoiding the use of personal opinion and irelevant facts to support an idea (which is already ridiculous to begin with). If women have a problem with the ski, let them fend for themselves. Until then, improve your writing skills and wear a helmet more often. All that falling on your head in the backcountry has caused some severe damage. Maybe you should review your thoughts as to what the relevance is between a modern depiction of horror and the glorification of violence against women.

Many people would agree with me, that this was the best graffic so far. There are no meanings behind them. I'm sure that if the Rossignol's women team had a problem with the ski, they might have said something.

So just keep your opinions to yourself, and use Bandits instead of ruining it for the rest of us.

Point 1: The whole thing was gay.

First off, I don't know about you guys, but I'm offended that people think I'm stupid enough to take an inkblot graphic and use it as a basis for committing murder.

Second, the graphic looked nothing like that and if that gay rep hadn't opened his mouth, none of this would have happened.

Third, why would anyone feel the need to purchase a ski solely based on the fact that it depicts violence against women? That's some 5 grade fag kick. Anybody who likes killing women (or men for that matter) is just mal-adjusted.

Fourth, Why do you have to interpret the graphic in the first place? Graphics are cool to talk about on the lifts, but striking up a conversation with a hot chick in the next seat about how your skis depict somebody cutting her throat is going to be a little akward.

Lastly, this whole thing was gay from the beginning and should be dully filed into the shelves of history under 'gayness.'

When the canadian team/product manager said that stuff at vegas, most people that work at rossi had a feeling that that would be bad publicity...

to make a long story short, the entire production has been stoped and the skis that have been made with that graphic will remain inhouse.

the 05 scratch bc graphics are currently being redone....chances are it will be a slightly modified version of last years which was a nude woman. the color scheme will remain. black red and silver.

ill keep the info coming as i recieve it.

but for those that care... rossi took this very seriously, and is sorry, to anybody that took this offensivly....it was not meant that way

I emailed them saying it sucked, I didn't like the graphic and have every right to tell them so. I wrote them a civil email saying I didn't think that kind of graphic had any place in skiing. I would also write to LINE (my favourite company) if they released a graphic featuring that kind of violence, especially against women. Come on, take a hit... call me 'gay'... i'll be so suprised...

I liked the graphic but is was way out there. after learning the meaning in a sense it was a bit much for regular people to swallow. remember these are the same peeps who sue McDs for fattness or sue cause they crashed into trees or crashed in the park they take the blame for nothing. sic graphics but really not accepted in North america at this time ps Japan will take em as will Europe.

its sad that people are so sensitive to these kind of things. just cuz you make them take it off the ski doesnt mean that violence is going to go away. i can understand that you dont want to be surrounded by violent imagery, but still you gotta feel bad for rossignol for making them waste all those materials and whatnot.

I actually read the article in question, and 5 pages of the resulting discussion threads on telemarktips.com

I can honestly say that Rossi got fucked on this one. A group of older, right wing telemarkers with children mis-interpreted a graphic and drew conclusions that made almost no sense. I even got to read stuff like 'can we forward this to womens organizations and the mainstream media to get them on our side too?'. Undoubtedly though, my favourite post of all was the one that read

'Maybe a copy of the editorial and coresponding thread should be sent to Bill O'Reilly at Fox News. Inspite of the fact I don't agree with somethings he says, nor do I care for the way he interviews people, he still will doggedly go after something he believes is morally wrong; I think this is something he'd believe is wrong. He has gone after the Anheuser-Busch/Ludacris thing and before that Pepsi. Issues both of which I don't find nearly as offensive as Rossi's poor taste. I'd do it myself, but I'm not very computer literate.'

This is a classic case of desperate people looking for any cause to support to help them feel better about their worthless lives. It's even funnier when you realize that the ski itself was never designed with them in mind, but rather by freeskiers for freeskiing.

I'll make sure to kick the shit out of any telemarker I see riding the 'improved' 2004-2005 Scratch BC.

I too, will kick any telemarker i see on them too, in hopes that its the guys that complained about the graphics... if you dont like the graphics, dont buy the ski, and dont support the company. you are never gonna be able to censor everything in your kid's life, so go find something better to do then complain about ski graphics.
