2003 Jetta Window Problem

Sup yall

So got a call the other day apparently my drivers window on my 2003 vw jetta fell into the door panel and came off the tracks. Has anyone else had to deal with this problem before? Is it an easy DIY fix or should I take it to a mechanic. I heard its a common problem with higher mileage jetta's around this time period as well.

happen to me in a 2004 volvo s80... I had to bring it to a shop since too many pieces on the door panel and I was afraid of not putting it back together properly

dub post but I forgot to add I was way too broke to have it fixed and the car was on it's last leg. So, the mechanic just put a wood wedge in to permanently hold the window shut.

i've taken apart door panels on a couple nissans to temporarily rig the window in the closed position. this wasn't too hard to do. i've had two separate failures due to both the motor assembly breaking and the switch going bad. if i remember right it was probably about $100-$150 to fix it both times through local shop.

Be careful if you do decide to take the door panel off. I'm not sure about VWs, but a lot of car door panels are held on by a couple screws and then a bunch of shitty plastic clips that are very easy to snap. The clips are also often extremely easy to be punched into the door itself, never to be seen again, that will convert your door into a giant German maraca. Then you'll have to go to your local dealer to get more clips, where they'll charge you as if they were made out of gold, rather than the melted and reformed McDonald's happy meal toys that they really are.

Moral of the story: I'd call up a shop and get a quote then make your decision if you want to tackle the job yourself.

Gold... Pure fucking gold...

my boy had the same year jetta and his fell off. Inside the door there are specially designed clips to keep the door in place. These clips i think can only be installed at the dealership or a shop that knows VW's. Definitely not a job to do at home

You wouldn't have had a problem if you had a...

Do this it is the easiest way. Removing the door panel can be a pain like others have said due to those little pieces of plastic.

This happened to my mk4, I was up skiing and my passenger tried to roll the power window down when it was frozen and wouldn't budge. As soon as we got down low enough that everything thawed up it just dropped into the door without warning. Scared the shit out of us.

Dude same thing.

Just a headsup if anyone here was wondering. My window fell into a weird spot all the way into the door.

Im not a big mechanic...but its super easy to fix just takes some time. Basically you have to unscrew all the bolts on the door panel holding it in...disconect the electricity and reinstall the window into the clamps that move it up and down.

Saved me about $2-300 bucks and took about an hour and a half. Now that I did it once could breeze through it in 30 minutes again

I just fixed my girlfriends jeep window last week. Go buy a door panel removal kit (~ 10$), to reduce the risk of breaking the shitty plastic plugs. But once the door panel is off its super easy! Good luck!
