2002 to 2022 20 years of Newschoolers

Joined NS in 2002, somethings have changed but the love for skiing has not. Still out there as much as I can be, still learning new tricks and still spraying Jerries. Hopefully in 20 more years I will still be doing the same.

Thought it would be cool to do an ask me anything about what I can remember about the site and the ski world in the last 20 years, so ask away people.

Do you remember the first time you did a 360? Or whatever your first actual trick was?

First trick was a log slide on a pair of Mike Nick skiboards. First 3 was like a week later, think it was 2000 or 2001.

What have been the best/ most groundbreaking ski movies in your mind?

Also what do you think NS/ NS members can do to try and recapture the glory days of the site?

One of the biggest things in my metaphorical travels into NS history is just the sheer volume of posts old posters that haven't been on the site in years now have made. Do you think there is a way to get them to take notice of NS once again? I especially would love to hear from [tag=119784]@Mr.Huck[/tag] who seems to have the best storytelling skills I have ever come across.

Not a movie, LTC they opened this kind of skiing to a larger audience and still do to this day.

Glory days are just that, there is no way to bring it back. Newschoolers was new, this kind of skiing was new. There were no coaches there were no rules, no FIS. There wasn't many people with twin tips so when you saw someone with a pair it was a no way you too! moment.

That said what should be brought back are the local rail jams and comps.

Kind of... I had a pair so I could go into the snowboard park, skis weren't allowed in the parks at the time.

Basing this off from my person experience, friends that use to be on the site and ski a lot don't really ski anymore. Life happens people go in different directions, interest and hobbies change.

Sure do, tried it out too. It's hard setting a spin with your hands dragging in front of your feet.

Do you remember when Tanner's gorilla style pissed everyone off?

I found my old account from 2002 lol. Bonscottsbio5. I was a fan of acdc. I used to upload videos unfortunately they no longer exists. I had some cool backyard rail stuff and a steezy cork 5. I only posted 1 thing to a forum thread, I couldn't spell when I was 16, and it turns out I was an asshole.

Rossignol scratches, K2 public enemy and fugitive, Armada, and Line.

What about Yearbook and Propaganda? Those are the two OG's IMO.

There are so many good ones, all the poor Boyz, msp, rage, level one, idea, tbc, the list goes on and on.

I joined in 04, but browsed for years before. They really were the glory days, the days of the internet being new, and forums being the best way to communicate with other skiers. It was before social media existed, which now spreads out all the content amongst other platforms, NS was the only way other than hard copy to deliver ski content. I miss it. It's sad to see so much great ski content not even posted on NS. It's just how things evolved, there's no way to change it, but I miss this being the skiing hub. Same goes for TGR forums

What skis old skis did you get rid of that you wish you would have kept?

Have you ever looked back at some of your old threads?

I have and it's utterly embarrassing seeing post from my teenage/college years. I think newschoolers could have a small side hustle of deleting old threads for a price.

to recapture NS glory days we need those sick NS jackets to be made again, saw a guy wearing one in the parking lot a few weeks ago and yelled "nice newschoolers jacket" and we talked for a few and it was cool seeing someone from here

Thats soo awesome! This is perfect I've been looking for an old edit from like 06 maybe can't remember the skier but it was a park edit with classic super mario sounds, he was collecting coins on boxes and rails.

Rossignol scratch sold them for rent money in 2006, such a fun ski.

I predicted the future in 2003,https://www.newschoolers.com/forum/thread/22720/candides-is-my-ski-god

How toxic is NS today compared to its past?

NS today is a tame house cat compared to the past.

Backpack speakers weren't to common, everyone had an awesome walkman back then.

Think that was a Peter Olenick segment @tigerwoods

I joined in 03, mostly as a lurker. One year away from 20 years here. Mattman was such a postwhore back then.

I watched the playground (2002) yeaterday on inspired media. Reminded me of all my favorite skiers from back in the day. It strange how that movie aged so well.

The Rossi scratches were sweet back in the day. Did you have the Freddy Kruger ones?

Lol remember when anti-skip was a legit feature on walkmans?

I still have my old GIRO tuneups from 2006:

A few oldies in there .... When I got those scratch bcs. Boy was I stoked!!!!

This just goes to show that Mr. Pollard is on another level on topsheet design. I still regret not getting the Opus. I like how you have both the Freddy Krueger Scratch FS and the Girl BCs too.
