2 ski quiver explanation

post some ideas how to explain the need for more skiis than one. lets help all the kids convincing their patents, or maby to convince yourself?

Two ski quivers only makes sense if you use them. that being said, you would have a pair for hardpack icy days, and have a pair for the pow days. probably a pair around 70-90 and another pair around 90+. i think these fatass skis kids are skiing on is ridiculous. if you can remotely ski decently, you don't need anything bigger than 115 unless you live in alaska or only ski 1ft+ of pow pow on a regular basis, but since most of us don't have that luxury, it doesn't make any sense.

so false, more advanced skiers are able to drive fatter twins, which enables them to ski more terrain and have more fun all around. like i know a few people who ride 115+ waist skis every day.

How about you just get a fucking job and get them yourself? If I had a kid and he honestly wanted me to buy them a whole quiver, I'd have to assume he got into my drug stash and he's tripping tittyballs to face.

Besides- if they don't get it, they won't. One doesn't simply... Explain a quiver to a nonskier.

I have a crappy pair of sufaces i beat up I use for way early season and park skiing when im going full out all day in the park

Another all mountain surface I use cruising around with my friends and on pow days

Also have a pair of all mountain nordica carving/race skis which ripppppp on icy days so much fun

Use all three a decent amount makes the day much more enjoyable with the proper skis

Don't get me wrong fat skis are hella fun in the deep fluff. but if your trying to create a two ski quiver, ya just don't need a 140 underfoot-fullrocker-ubbergiant-super-duper-ak-killin ski. everyone's going towards fatter is better, but its ridiculous when you see some kid flyin down the iced runs on their hellbents with zero control. fatties have thier place, but ya just don't need it. my .02.

I've got park skis, pow/all-mountain skis and rock skis (which are just my older pair of park skis). Maybe expanding with groomer skis this season. As you can see, all of the skis have a different purpose.

I like to compare it to golf: if you only do puts (ski park), then you're only gonna need a putter (park skis). But if you want to play the whole course effectively (ski the whole mountain), you're gonna need all kinds of clubs (skis).

Or you can be a badass and play the whole course with a 7 iron while still qualifying for the US Open like Tin Cup.

Yeah...

a 2 ski quiver? thats easy. Powder and park. Carving and Slarving. Ice and all mtn. all depends on where you live.

I live out west and own 6 skis. there is some overlap on paper but each ski has a different purpose.

1 pair works, 2 is good, 3 is great, but 4 is amazing!

park (mostly cambered 70-90 waist)

pow (100-130 waist fatties with hella rocker)

rock skis ($40 beat to shit park sticks you find at a swap)

touring/tele (entirely optional for some, the only way to ski for others (no lifts??), but If you're into hiking up, nothing beats a sick telemark or AT setup)

i love my 4 ski quiver:

APO hutches

Volkl Chopsticks

Armada AR5s ($60 at swap)

amazingly light G3 tele skis w/ skins (just getting into touring since finding a $50 pair of sick G3's with skins at a swap-- saving up for Tele boots!! STOKED!)

I can't imagine having more skis than 4 pair.

Although it is fun to have drastically different styles of ski, because then you can use the whole mt., and getting on a different pair can be like re-learning how to ski!

convince them by showing them a video of Eric pollard, then telling them that you want to land switch in the pow, and that you need a new pair of Opuses to do that haha.

my quiver:

Park ski

Backup park ski/Urban ski

All Mt Ski

Pow ski

Loaner ski (to lend to friends in need)

Shotski

If you didn't have the money to buy both at the same time, which ones would you buy first?

I would probably buy allmtn/park fist and them pow. Anybody think otherwise?

jib pair - rails (beat to shit)

jump/pipe/mtn pair (good condition)

don't do BC yet so no need for touring

also not enough snow to need pow skis

-light/narrow for rails and future spins and urban

-wider/rocker for bigger jumps and pow and stability

Yes I know it depends where I live, but I was throwing out the question as a conversation starter.

I live in CO. Resort skiing

i just bought ar6s a while back and I man up and take them everywhere because im poor and actually learned to ski without using twins, so most park skis are wide enough for me.. i feel so old

If you can't figure out why you need them and how to justify it then you don't need/deserve them.

That's a tough call, I'd get the pow skis if it was a snowy year. Unfortunately there's no way to tell haha. This winter's not looking so hot so I'd go with the all mtn/park skis.

If you live out west and you ski park id get a park ski and a 105-115 waist ski that is rated well for all-mountain. if you dont ski park then like a 95-105 waist all-mountain and a 115-135 pow ski

I have rossignol storms, and k2 pettitors, pretty good quiver for AB considering we have lots of big mountain terrain, fairly big parks, and the occasional 30cm dump.

I compete in both park and Big mtn. Park skis in the big mountain are such a fuckin pain in the ass. IMO you can't land things as smoothly and you have to work yourself more than with fatter skis. Fatter skis in the park suck too IMO. That's why you get two skis

it depends when you are getting them. I'd rather have just my pow sticks early season till about christmas, then get some park skis.

but thats mainly because our parks arent fully built yet until early january anyway, and I like rockered skis for hitting the cornices when they are bigger early in the year.

also, if you're parents are rich, and you are super good, and your parents still give you money for christmas, then that cash can help get a new park setup. :)

78mm pipe skis, also pretty fun to rip on groomers and bumps with

85mm kind of beat up skis, rails and what not

100mm park skis, daily driver for park and all mountain skiing with light amounts of snow

113mm touring skis dynafit set up for long tours

118mm resort/sidecountry daily driver pow skis with mfds

128mm full reverse camber full reverse sidecut(almost full that is)-charger for deep deep days...still don't have this one yet, wishful thinking but hopefully i can grab some at some point soon.

you don't need to buy a ton of skis, you can get by with one maybe two just fine. but there are plenty of reasons to have several. now i certainly didn't buy all of these in one year, but your collection can built over time when you buy skis for different purposes. If you have multiple skis to choose from, each ski is going to be getting less days on them, thus allowing you to buy other skis for a different purpose, rather than just replacements.

Everyday all mountain twin (90-110mm) Icelantic Nomad RKRDirectional line charger (100-110mm) Head Monster 103 Team (race room/best ski ever made)

Rockered powder (120-140mm) Icelantic Gypsy

Touring (110-120mm) Icelantic Shaman

Rock skis (~100mm) Ninthward First Blood

Carving (75-90mm) Nordica GS (Women's worldcup race stock because I'm a sissy)

i could have like 10 pairs of skis and still not be satisfied, skis and bikes are the same for me, the more you have the more fun it gets. ive got 6 pairs of skis, 2 park skis, 2 mid waist rocker all mountain parky freeridey skis, and 2 pow skis, one normal camber one rocker. i really only ski 3 of those, the other 3 are still around just cause i havent been able to get rid of them

but shit i could have a normal camber park ski, a slightly fatter rocker park ski like filthy riches/one times, and some like 110+ waist rocker pow skis in a shorter length just for park (og bents are the best park skis ever..) then something like bacons or jeffreys for those days where you have a little new snow and you cruise around hitting everything, a soft noodly fat rocker ski for BC jibbing like the original ep pros, a pair of bc jump skis like the jj's. and a long stiff chargey ski. i could probably add more to that. if you got the money, fuck it, why not?

I saw a 75+ year old man rocking the Opus'es in early season A Basin. he was so chill, we rode the lift together and talked about Pollard and about how none of the skiers from his time (I don't know any of the names) can't even come close to the skiers of today.

I saw him later that day and he totally sent it off of a roller. It was stiff and lacked steeze because of his age, but boy did he send it.

you really dont get out much do you. go ski alta/squaw/jackson/big sky/baker and tell me that a ski shouldnt be under 115. daily drivers are 120 and bigger for the guys that ride everyday at these places. you are a fool.

I've never thought of that first part like that, but I will probably buy them over the summer when I can make some money and when i can find good deals in EVO's and Backcountry's outlet.

My parents aren't rich and even if we were totally loaded my parents know a thing or two about money (they are accountants) so they wouldst just give me money.

I'm super broke as hell and somewhat new to freeskiing so i'm still rocking season rentals. I'm waaay out flexing them and getting sick of the weight and no float and no spinning ability and 158cm length when i'm 5' 10". My parents think I have the worlds best skis though because of their fancy upturned "flip tails" as they call them. I also might have trouble buying skis when my dad is super critical of my money spending habits. for example, I bought a cheap fixed gear bike to supplement my cross country season and just for fun. My dad spent a week telling me about how I should sleep on it before i bought it. well he loves that bike so I guess i gained his trust a little bit.

anyways that is my life story and i'm sorry if you think its stupid that i posted on this thread about it.

Honestly I don't see the need for anythign over 120 anymore. Maybe that's personal preference but anything bigger than that is A) to heavy B) floats too much. I like face shots, no homo.
