i was just thinkin how alot of people from the west say the east sucks. and theyre all talking about vermont, maine, NY and all.

so how does everyone see states like mine, PA, NJ, VA...all that

 
10 times better than what? I know a little 400 foot verticle that is as good and in some ways "better" than so many name brand places north or west.....

im from the east and have lived and traveled the west. west is best hands down. east puts the effort forth that produces great talent and personalities. the mid west looks super creatuve and progressive, but you cant rip a true line or drop a true drop, or ride a huge base in the park in April and May. its just reality, were good but not best.

i live in the east and have skiied out west, and its not like we in the east did anything to make ourselves have not as good mountains. People say east sucks like we chose to have it like this. The fact is the west has bigger mountains with more snow. and so skiing in the west has way more pow and bigger lines and all that. We manage out here in the east though, we take liking to our little home mountains, thats why the best skiiers are the ones that grew up skiing east, then get the chance to go west. Appreciation.

totally agree...it makes you appreciate better mountains so much more...when i go to VT or west....its the most amazing thing...and i can enjoy east and west....but i bet if i lived out there....if i came east i wouldnt even think it was considered skiing

so i think east is better in almost every way except mtn size and snow

yeah hmmm i know of places in sc or va that open earlier and get more snow than ny.....my freind grew up skiing a 250ft vertical hill with no jumps bumps or rails. just a race course reg trail and tow rope

ive seen west hating on our small mountains and east hasnt been hating much...we agree about you having better mountains....

using the socratic method i have deduced that east coast skiiers are much nicer and have more respect for the sport than wes coast skiers

 
east coast skiers are in no way nicer people or respect the sport more, hell half don't even know what real skiing is so how can you respect it? the first ski lift was in the west so the heritage is here, just look on the site of who causes the most hell and talks the most shit and most of it comes out of the East, travel from east to west and you will find people to be alot more friendly out west. why the east can't hate on the west is because the west is the best and 2nd has a hard time ripping on 1st.

aww, why dont you west coasters come over to the RIGHT coast (coincidence, i think not) and hit some of our ice rink landings, then talk shit, and also while youre at it, ski some moguls over here, whose zipper line is curvier than my pubes, and then hit up some of the sickest urbans in the world (ie. boston, troy, syracuse)

i live in the east coast it sucks that we cant ski almost year round but we make are summer setups and i for one think we are more dedicated because we dont have the best mountains with the best parks and pow we dont have pow hell are mountains might not even have a park but ride what we can and we have a great time but it doesnt even matter its all about having fun and showing your freinds upp hah

I like my east coast mountains in quebec, I still prefer big mountains with a lot of pow but I love my little family mountains

The thread looks like it wasn't supposed to be west vs. east, but Southeast vs northeast. The south has decnt skiing for the location, but it can't compare to up north. North Caolina gets around 80 in. of snow a year, the season lasts from before thanksgiving to march 31, they have mountains with verts of 1200 ft. NC has 38 degree trails of solid ice at one place. But pretty much, all we have to ski is park. It won't compare to the NE, and I would move there if I got the chance. I think the point that a lot of east coast people are trying to make is that skiing on the east can make you a better skier if you constantly grew up skiing ice and bad parks. Look at hugo harrison. The west is better than the east, it just can't be argued.

not everyone is only concerned about the best terrain possible the best park in north america and the most snowfall every year. i love in vermont and ski in vermont and i think it's probably the most beautiful place in the world. and i love skiing here, it may not be the best skiing in the world but i love skiing small resorts where the lifties know your name and not everything is corporate and huge.

fuck the east im going west.....but places like rochester, syracuse, and buffalo have more snow than the resorts....they get mad lake effect to the point wehre you can hit a urban rail whenever you want from decemeber to march.....150in in a city is nice

i used to liv in jerz and ski hunter ny, and vt is alot better. Let me tell you tho utah is then sikestthing that ive ever skied! For the 3 days i skied here after i moved it was sunnyand warm each day! We get 3 days of sun and warmth all yearin the east. O ya the parks are kool too

 
well the only thing i dont like about the east is that they are not nice, in the west every is nice and its chill place on the hill, most east coast people i meet think their sh** doesnt stink.

just because the size of the mountain is small, doesn't make it any less corporate. Stratton is tiny, but its so much more commercial and crowded than Alta.

I'm from the east coast too, and i like it, but i'd go out west in a second if i had the chance.

when i wrote my post i was not thinking about stratton. i don't ski stratton. i'm talking about my home mountain. where i work in the lodge and get the same people in getting the same thing every day and in the afternoon we can grill on the porch and just hang out. and it's just the same big crew every year, i love it. you can go up there midweek and have a whole lift to yourself for hours.

that's true and i'm not saying no mountains on the east coast are not corporate. I'm just saying that both the west and the east have mountains that are corporate, and ones that are personal, except the western ones have more terrian and more snow.

 
East has some really hot mountains like Okemo.. with one of the largest half pipes... my guess is probably in the nation.. and Sunday River in Maine there is FIVE seperate mountains to that resort... and allll the terrain is awesome..

not saying the east is better than the west... lol its not but jsut to clear up the East does have some pretty cool mountains...

Anyone ever been to Sugarbush? the terrain Park there is really sweet! and if u look at the trail map in between the two mountains all that is glades.... that the chairlift goes over... all is glades.. problably the most fun on out of bounds terrain i have ever had in my life.. lol but then again.. i have not been out west.. haha

 
i know what i typed a while back was alittle opinionated, and it didnt come out totally wrong but... im not hating on the west coast, if anything, it would be sick if kids everywhere realized that kids out west go huge, and have incredible set ups due to the amount of snow, kids on the east coast go big, but are stuck with mediocre jumps, so we improvise, and that midwesterners and the thugged out quebecois are just too good. i think everyone should see the other side as a source of amazing potential, and recognize their own "coast" as potential. its not really worth fighting over, so, i retract any hating i did before.

i've skied every single mountain in vermont numerous times each, and MRG, and castlerock peak at sugarbush is the best terrain in vermont. hands down. jay is up there too.
