I'm pretty sure the general consensus throughout the industry is that none of the Big Name guys are going to do it. We don't care if it goes to the Olympics as long as you don't have to do World Cups to Qualify.

honestly a whole tour like FIS shouldn't be the qualifier for the olympics. Xgames should be the qualifier. cause honestly, if its a whole tour then the ppl who compete solely on the FIS tour make it to the olympics cause they have more points from more events. FIS is dumb, take it from someone who used to race and try to compute their points in their head, it just dont make sense.

The X-Games are far from being a legitimate and equal playing field...but that is just my opinion. You can pretty much guess the podium each year...not to say that they don't deserve it, but you can't send people to the olympics based on who ESPN decided should be able to compete.

you do have a point their liam. really a new governing body should be formed. basically run one event a year before the olympics or count the WSSI or US open as qualifiers for the oympics.

but if we want our sport to progress to the next level, don't we need a governing body, and wouldn't it be better if that governing body was already installed and knowlagable. we might have to do drug testing, but wouldn't it be worth it?

drug testing is not that applicable to skiing. technique plays a bigger part in it. most of the drugs are designed to help the body bulk up and feel less pain during training. skiing is more based on technique then brunt force. at least in freestyle. besides, the only pro who might use steroids for an advantage would be brad holmes

Liam said it right there, the x-games are a purely made-for-tv event, basically a money making venture for EXPN. No accountability on the judging exists whatsoever, and to ensure future audiences are high, the big names will generally always flourish - because they draw the audiences in.

My view is - if you wanna compete in the olympics then go race or take up luge. Our sport doesnt need it, thats not why i ski and thats not why you ski.

the problem with FIS is that they're cheap and don't like to spend money on insurance, so by enforcing rules that take the 'free' out of the sport, they can get insurance for cheaper, that's why there's so many stupid rules for Moguls and Aerials. I think they should run the WC's let all the kids go out and win and then the year before the Olympics each country should hold 3 independant qualifying events (That aren't world Cups) and pick their national team based on that.

ok, FIS is a little threat to our ski clique, for the simple reasons that the company doesnt decide the fate of skiers, because they can form there own companies and totally ditch them. We also looked in the past, and we know how fucked up we will get if FIS once again controls us.

its sounds like their needs to be a new association of some type dedicated purley to newschool. instead opf the fis, they could be the ones doing wahtever offocial stuff it is they do.. like sanctioning comps ect...

Rex you're right about the cheapness. Insurance is soo much for comps now, especially for inverts. Places in Ontario like Blue spend a fortune for invert insurance. The thing is that the WSSI is an example of how freestyle ski and boarding events should be run in the olympics.

The other problem is that many of these Olympic movements and ideas need to be proposed by people with more power and influence. Riders liks yourself Rex, and the companies, and magazines.

but WSSI doesn't have the power that FIS has. if you think that FIS will corrupt our sport then don't compete in FIS events, what harm can them adopting our sport bring? it will just bring more people to our sport

Actaully the X games have been getting better. An unknown 13 year old took skateboard park and Look at Global X, I could not have called the podium the way it was. I believe as the X games eveolve so will their credbility. FIS has competion in its halfpipe events, so to try and make it succesful I doubt that it would be a good idea for them to try and hold the sport back. We only should worry where no alternative exists.

 
see FIS didn't truly fuck moguls up, its just thata the sport has progressed so much that FIS is holding it back. The imposition of rules by FIS is not designed around the greater good of a sport.
