Crazy how far its come, I just wonder what 16 year old Candide's face would look like if he could see Henriks triple

and I'm not sure whats with the asian commentators, Enjoy

That video is almost a testament to the flat/rodeo 5. It's stood the test of time and thirteen years later, it's still being thrown on a daily basis

Pretty much still aspire to doing Dorion's 900 "tuck cross". Epic find. To bad it didn't show Douglas's D-Spin its jokes before he learned to grab it

Snowboarding already had steez.

Skiers looked like goobers for a couple years after too. I liked how the half pipe contests skiers were only able to spin on one wall of the pipe. Then there were the only doing a trick where you land switch on the last hit.

Good times.

But on a serious note, that was really cool to watch. I had only ever seen JF's winning aw 7 from that comp. Crazy to see some of the other runs.

funny how they would slide don a bunch of the hill and then just barely clear the knuckle. now a days riders are being catapulted into the jumps.

Maximum X for digging that up. I have seen the clip of JF's unnatty switch 7, but that is the first time since probably watching that live, that I have seen the whole comp. God bless the Japanese for documenting greatness and not losing the footage.

Also, this was the first time that twin tips made an appearance in a major televised competion. 1999 was the first year I ever saw a pair of Salamon 1080's.

the whole atmosphere surrounding the competition back then was awesome. It was really like a smaller local competition. I mean look at it...small crowd, possibly one of the most poorly formed jumps of all time, and just nothing like it is now.

As much as I enjoy how big it's become, it really is cool remembering where it came from.

I was there for that. I think it was kreitler who dropped into that jump switch during prelims (no twin tip) and his tails just stuck into the lip of the jump, double ejected at the take off.also that same year a new name to the ski world Eric Pollard was at x competing in ski blading. hmmm things have changed a bit.

bahaha thats epic! amazing how much more style candide has than anyone else!

Also i think their distance-ometer is off, lol 80+ feet i dont think so

The sketchiness of the jump is crazy. The size, the speed are exponentially bigger nowadays.

After having only been interested in the freeskiing world for the last three years or so, those seem like dark ages to me. Seeing a guy throw his arms up in celebration after a barely grabbed rodeo or flat 5 to me is just like woahh. Watching the crazy grabs and dubs/trips that are thrown nowadays makes it easy to forget how ridiculously hard tricks like that actually are. This is awesome and humbling. Skiing is heading places people never ever ever thought it would, but we can't forget those first steps. Crazy.

dark ages? more like the golden age, when everything was new are everyone was stoked to huck their meat! PS, don't tell me you didn't get hot and bothered by JF's mullet, that was amazing.

I remember I was there for the 2001 x games big air when THall won his first ever competition. It was so awesome to see. Switch rodeo 7.

If you watch the eliminations from this year, Mike D says something about it. He said that Cusson gave them to Gagnier for good luck. They also mentioned how much taller Gagnier is than Cusson.

love the claims! haha

nowadays you see 10 year old kids hitting jumps that big. or bigger.

thanks for posting the vids tho!
